Very Rare Documented U.S. Remington Arms , Red Star Model 1903, .30-06 Sprg

Lot #24 (Sale Order 24 of 82)

Very Rare Documented U.S. Remington Arms , Red Star Model 1903, .30-06 Sprg, s/n 3032915, rifle, brl length 24", excellent condition, bolt action, Wonderful example of a British "Lend-Lease" Remington '03. Information comes from "The Red Star Remington '03 Rifles" article written by William R. Hansen that appeared in U.S. Martial Arms Collector Magazine. It is stated that at least 10 crates came back from England in about 1955 and remained unopened for over 40 years. They were purchased privately from the British military by a U.S. Army Air Corps officer. The rifles were shipped 12 to a crate and 5 crates were placed on sale via the "Red Star Military Museum and Sales" of Culver City, California. Included is a copy of the article where on page 89-18 under "Exhibit A" the inventory record lists this example as number "15" with the correctly corresponding serial number. The rifle is in excellent condition with crossed cannon cartouche and "R.L.B." in borderline rectangle on the left side with a circle "P"/"H" underside of wrist. It does not have the typical British proof and export marks found on Lend Lease rifles. The correct 2.25" red painted band is present and the barrel is marked "RA/Flaming bomb/1-42". The front fixed blade sight has sheet steel flaming bomb US marked protector and the rear sight is graduated to 27. There is heavy grease still present on bolt, follower, chamber, floor plate and cut-off. The rifle's Parkerized metal finish shows almost no wear with minor thinning on bolt from cycling. Wonderful example of a very rare Red Star.
