Hopi Dance Blade Lot #2 (Sale Order 2 of 325) Material: Black Obsidian. Length: 10- 3/16". Width: 2-1/4". Grade: Museum. This is a large, triangular blade that has straight, lateral blade edges that terminate in strong, well crafted, side notches. The stem is expanding & rectangular with parallel sides & a concave basal edge. Correct patina for age. Good hinge staining & authigenic accumulations. Known to be hafted into a double pointed spear & carried in ceremonial dances that included "The Deer Dance" which was supposed to bring good luck in their hunts. Authenticated by Butler.

Columbia Plateau Point Lot #3 (Sale Order 3 of 325) Material: Translucent, gray & black, agate. Reported Origin: Found along the Columbia River in Oregon. Length: 1-1/8". Width: 5/8". Grade: 9+. This is a very small, paper thin, triangular point that has a needle sharp tip with bullet straight blade edges. Barbs are sharp & expand downward near the baseline. The stem is squared with parallel sides. The once straight basal edge is now convoluted due to ancient us-wear. Well crafted with a nice, naturally aged patina. Correct ghosting veil and surface gloss. Good sorption of mineraAls & authigenic accumulations noted. Authenticated by Butler.

Clovis Point- Early Paleo (12,000-10,600 B.P.) Lot #4 (Sale Order 4 of 325) Material: Tannish brown, Dover Chert. Reported Origin: Union County, Indiana. Length: 3-15/16". Width: 1-5/16". Grade: 9. This is a medium size, lanceolate point that has convex blade edges that become parallel sided as they approach the stem. The basal edge is concave & haft is well ground. Nice, naturally aged patina with good sorved deposits, authigenic accumulations. Authenticated by Butler.

Wealth Blade- Developmental ot Present Lot #5 (Sale Order 5 of 325) Two authentications: The first authentication is by Butler as follows: 1,200 B.P. to Present. Material: Burned, black, Obsidian. Origin: Reportedly; Near Humboldt Cty, California. Length: 6-9/16". Width: 1-1/16". Grade: 10+ Museum. This is a large, long, narrow, knife form that is well made, having long, slightly convoluted, blade edges, a sharp tip & a well rounded butt end. Heavy resharpening has reduced the length & width of this blade or hand knife by a third. Classic edge work for type. Excellent, heavy coat of ash based deposits with other authigenic accumulations observed. Reported to have been found at a dig site near Humboldt County, California not far from Gunther Island. All items fourd in the dig had been burned, whether thiswas a sacrificial or ceremonial is not known to me. The second authentication is by Baker as follows. Item: Cascade Knife. Origin: Oregon. Origin: Reported origin in Lane County, Oregon. Length: 1-1/4". Width: 5/8". Grade 7. This is a small, thin, triangular point that has straight lateral blade edges with side-notches located high up on the blade edges. Long, expanding, triangular, basal ears, or auricles are formed by a central basal notch. Good authigenic accumulations are observed. Perdiz- Mississippian (1,000-500 B.P.) Lot #9 (Sale Order 9 of 325) Material: Glossy, heat treated, Chert. Origin: Reportedly; The Texas region. Likely northeastern Texas. Length: 1-1/4". Width: 7/8". Grade: 10. This is a small, ultra thin, triangular point that has straight to very slightly incurvate blade edges that transition into long, base length, flaring barbs. The stem is contracting and pointed. Good accumulations with correct aging and a nice naturally aged patina noted.

A large point or knife with straight blade edges, angular barbs and a contracting, rounded stem. Stem edges are lightly ground. Cross-section is bi-convex and flaking is by initial percussion followed by pressure. In my opinion, this is an authentic artifact, a type associated with the Adena Culture of the Late Archaic-Early Woodland Period, dating in the 2,800 B.P. to 2,100 B.P. range. This type was developed from the Cresap point, and was named by collectors in the Ohio area for the Adena Culture that developed it.
