Now for the story....This pistol, (and all others in this auction) came from the estate of a living 91 year old USMC Korean War veteran. He informed me that his older brother, who served in WW2 gave this pistol to him and told him it was the pistol that his brother took from a German Officer who had wounded him with this very pistol! 100% period original and untouched example of a scarce combat worn double decal M35 Waffen SS helmet. 1st pattern SS decal. Shell is maker/size stamped Q66. Leather liner is still supple exhibiting normal SS soldier hair oil staining from combat wear. There are SS runes "scratched" on the leather and what appears to be either the soldier's initials or could possibly be unit markings. The rear flange also has the soldiers name in black ink but has faded and hard to make out. The lot number is a known lot number for this maker and size for double decal Waffen SS M35 production. Chin strap is maker stamped and dated 1940. All original and untouched example, exhibiting just the right amount of "been there" combat wear! Police eagle grip insignia still exhibits crisp detail with very little wear to the high relief areas and does have a slight "wiggle" Crisply detailed eagle head pommel and cross guard still retain a lot of the original nickel/chrome finish. Uniquely applied metal scabbard washer is present, which is not a very common to find at all. Eickhorn maker marked 10" blade still exhibits most of the original chrome finish. Leather body scabbard with nickel/chrome finish fittings is in very good condition. Blade fit is snug.

Rare Single Decal "Normandy" Camo M38 Fallschirmjager Helmet-Combat Worn!

In original untouched condition. Light and subdued "Normandy" type camo finish to the exterior. Luftwaffe Adler decal has toned nicely and is at least 90+ percent intact, if not more. Original leather chin straps are in excellent condition with PRYM 4H marked snaps. All liner 7 liner pads are present and still somewhat pliable. The leather liner exhibits hair oil darkening from combat wear and is still supple and has the correct maker/size stampings. Spanner bolt rivets are tight. The shell is maker size stamped ET68 with an early 3 digit lot stamping of 166, which is in the lot number range for Fallschirmjager Helmet production for this maker. All original and untouched example, exhibiting just the right amount of "been there" combat wear! Landau 1899-1901" The bottom of the stein is stamped "Ges. Gesch." which is the German Patent Pending marking, as this stein has an unusual attribute in the fact the porcelain front of the stein is in raised relief. We have never seen this type before! British Royal Engineer produced. Dated July 1918. Handwritten in top right is "SECRET 979"Printed on linen type paper. Shows the town of POPERINGHE, BELGIUM. Following is a little history of the town. " Throughout the Great War of 1914-1918 Poperinghe, or “Pops” as the British soldiers called it, was used by the British Army as a gateway to the battlefields of the northern Ypres Salient. It was an important rail center behind the front line and was used for the distribution of supplies, for billeting troops, for casualty clearing stations and for troops at rest from duty in the forward trench areas. Thousands of troops passed through this small town at some time or other. The main square formed the hub of five main roads leading into the town and, therefore, was constantly bustling with military traffic, military personnel and those civilians who had stayed on in the town. Because of its importance to the military behind the front Allied lines, the town was frequently targeted by long range German artillery. During the Third Battle of Ypres (31 July - 10 November 1917) Poperinghe and the surrounding area was bombed by German aircraft. Some bombs landed on the Casualty Clearing Stations nearby."

Rare vintage Schylling Co. cast iron Graf Zeppelin combination doorstop, lamp & sign. Depicts flying Graf Zeppelin on its mooring, stamped Graf Zeppelin on front. Made by the Schylling Co. Most of the original painted finish is long gone. There is a repair on one of the feet but only noticeable from the rear. There is a modern electrical cord with bulb included but would have to be improvised to work properly. Rare item!

It appears that the soldier has written his initials in the crown (RM). Scarce early Third Reich transitional helmet!

The early versions had the swastika decal on one side and the black & white Prussian shield on the other side. This example has the 2nd version decals with smaller swastika and canted tri color shield. This version was very short lived being in use from April 23, 1934 until July 11, 1934 at which time the decals were larger which adds to the extreme scarcity of this helmet configuration. Black painted exterior with combat style 8 leather tongue liner. It also has a handwritten name on one of the tongues. Liner has the neck flap tabs. Chin strap is intact. Shell is maker/size stamped ET62. Very scarce example in excellent collectible condition.

The movement winds and runs smoothly. It has not been checked for accuracy. White porcelain dial with skeleton hour and minute hands. Seconds dial at the 6 O'clock position. The outer rear of the case has an engraved Prussian Eagle. The secondary dust case has an embossed raised relief side bust view of Kaiser Wilhelm. The inside of the dust lid is engraved and roughly translates to "For Loyal Service To The Royal Games Or Spectacles With General Intention". The rear of the case also appears to be silver content hallmarked with several other markings. The pocket watch fits snugly inside of the steel combat/impact resistant hinged case.

Multi piece construction with very intricately gold bullion thread embroidered Luftwaffe Adler. The vet had this framed and was hanging on the wall in his library. The actual pennant/flag measures approx. 28-1/4" X 16-1/2". Frame dimensions measures approx. 37-1/2" X26". The cloth material shows moderate soiling and a few small "picks". This original period pennant/flag flown by a the HQ of a Luftwaffe Commanding General has not been removed from the frame for inspection of the reverse, which should have the same embroidered Adler. It appears to be thick enough but we can make no guarantee the reverse is present. It can be shipped in the frame or removed for more economical shipping. Might be the sleeper if it can be confirmed both sides are intact! Excellent display frame!

Early example with nickel finish fittings and anodized scabbard. The reverse of lower cross guard is district stamped with the letter "P" for the early SA district Of Pommern. Grip eagle exhibits wear to the high relief areas. Double edged steel blade exhibits fairly extensive wear but motto is still legible. The reverse has the faintly legible maker mark of Wilhelm Wagner, Solingen-Merscheid which still shows traces of the large stylized letter "W" in the center. The logo is close to cross guard indicating this quite possibly could have had a Rohm inscription before being ground off. Anodized scabbard finish is in excellent condition as are the nickel scabbard fittings. There is a small "ding" on lower scabbard fitting ball. This maker is listed as # out of 10 as far as scarcity. Hard to find example in any condition!

Rare War Wounded DRL Sports Badge With Document

Late war awarded example. Awarded to a Wehrmacht NCO on 1, Februar 1945. Rare to find this badge with award document which details the award criteria. Zinc alloy badge by "Wernstein Jena". Correct block style hinge. The catch is soldered to a circular base. Still retains a lot of the original finish. The war wounded version was implemented in 1940, for those military veterans of the Wehrmacht who had been wounded in combat and could no longer perform the physical tests. The wounded version of the badge was designed with different criteria and only those rated with a disability could qualify for the badge. It is constructed out of a die struck later war base that has a gold gilded wreath and the stylized DRL lettering in the center has a silver finish.

Exterior wool body is in excellent condition. Yellow piped for, as in this case, Fallschirmjager troops. Metal insignia period applied. Leather chin strap is strong. Scarce early variant visor having the black finish on reverse. There are 2 Herman Goring Fallschirmjager Regiment stampings on the reverse of the leather sweat band- "I. Rgt. Gen Goring 2.Komp." and an additional ink stamping "I. Rgt. Gen. Goring 3. Komp." Celluloid sweat shield in the crown is not present. Maker and date are faintly visible. Sweatband stitching is intact. There is a handwritten note that was found folded under the sweatband that reads " General "Iron Mike" O'Daniel gave this hat to my father Fred Wachs Sr. right after World War II. He said it belonged to Gen. Herman Goring." Of course we know that Goring himself most probably did not wear this visor cap and is Gen. Goring Fallschirmjager Regiment stamped as issued for wear by an enlisted paratrooper assigned to this regiment. Rare Goring paratrooper regiment issued visor cap!

It has the etched SMF maker marked and the Luftwaffe acceptance stamping. Scabbard is flawless still retaining nearly all of the original dull gray finish. Original silver bullion portapee exhibits very little wear. Hard to upgrade this example!

This cap exhibits good solid "been there" wear! Nicely saddle shaped with metal insignia and silver bullion wire officer's chin cord. There are a pair of metal grommet vent holes on each side. Very early example with green piping and green wool cap band. This configuration being early can also be attributed to early Nazi Police forces under Hermann Goring at the time. The lining is stamped "Hessiche Polizei" and the inside of the leather sweat band has an oil cloth tag with the name "Walter". There is a remnant still remaining of the celluloid crown sweat shield. The maker logo is faded. Nice example of a well worn, early German Police officer's visor cap.

Front hand embroidered insignia appears to be thick silk thread on a wool base. It has been hand sewn applied. The white thread that is the Eagle's eye does have a slight reaction to UV lighting. Green wool, ball plume, is attached with a metal wire fastener. Overall this pith helmet exhibits moderate wear and soiling. The feather and one of the round metal air vent grommets are not present. Chin strap appears to be original. Scarce item!

Extremely scarce Italian MVSN Fascist Kepi For the Rank Of General. Gold bullion Fascist eagle insignia on the front has toned nicely. The rank bar has a thick gold bullion border with a centered gold metal Fascist eagle. The background wool/felt material is maroon in color indicating rank bar for a medical General officer. Fine black"doe skin" wool body with silk thread "plume" that falls to the side of the wearers right. No mothing evident. Gold bullion cord is in excellent condition. The lining has come loose and has the tailor logo of "Pontinia" as does the leather sweat band. The sweatband does have some stitch separation. One of a kind item for sure!

The mount is complete with Optics Box that includes a very nice Hensoldt periscope sight. The optics are amazing. The stand shows use, wear, age, and carry, but is very nice. The only issue with the mount is that one of the leveling bubbles on one of the legs has been broken. However, everything else is present and very functional. This is a hard to find and expensive piece. The optics alone are worth a small fortune. This is a great and rare piece that will be perfect for use or display. The opening bid is less than 1/2 of the value for this item!

The 2 framed letters are to Reverend J.N. Atkins congratulating him that his son J.N. Atkins Jr. or "Snort" as he is referenced in by his nickname in one of the letters, and was being awarded the Air Medal and DFC. Both framed letters are hand signed by the commanding General of the IX Fighter Command/IX Tactical Air Command, General E.R. Quesada. The first framed letter dated 12, March 1944 he references awarding the Reverend's son (Atkins Jr.) the Air medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the other letter dated 27, May 1944 awarding the son the Distinguished Flying Cross. Both medals are present along with misc. ribbon bars and a single T41/42 dog tag. There is a nice pair of WW2 period Aviator sunglasses with leather case. General Quesada's highest rank achieved was Lt. General. Quesada went on to become the team owner of the MLB expansion team Washington Senators in 1961.

This helmet is direct from the estate of the Korean War USMC vet who picked it up off the battlefield.
