WW1 38th Ottawa Overseas Battalion Cap Badge/Canada Corps Shoulder Title Lot #14 (Sale Order 15 of 287) Both are browning brass with all lugs present. Cap badge is maker marked R Inglis. The 38th Battalion, CEF was a unit of the First World War Canadian Expeditionary Force. It was mobilized in Ottawa and recruited in Ottawa, Brockville, Perth, Prescott and Alexandria. An initial draft of five officers and 251 other ranks was sent to England on June 24, 1915. The battalion arrived in France on August 13, 1916, becoming part of the 4th Canadian Division, 12th Canadian Infantry Brigade and returned to Canada June 13, 1919.

This example is dated 3 July 1866 and was awarded to soldiers who attended the battle of Hradec Kralove. The memorial cross for the campaign of 1866 was founded on 20 September 1866 by King William I of Prussia. It was awarded to all Prussian soldiers and officials who had taken part in a battle in 1866 during the German War or had crossed the border to an opposing state during the campaign.

WW1 Austria Hungary 1916 FJ Merit Cross Medal Lot #53 (Sale Order 54 of 287) WW1 Austro-Hungarian Iron Cross for Merit with crown detacted. Blackened variant. The obverse has a central medallion in which the imperial monogram "FJ" (Franz Joseph) is placed within an inner circle bearing the motto "VIRIBUS UNITIS" (by united forces). The reverse bears the year of institution '1916' within a stylized wreath. The larger part of recipients of this decoration can be found among members of the medical corps, the field railroad corps and the military postal services.

An Austrian Marian Cross of the German Knight Order Breast Badge with Ribbon Lot #76 (Sale Order 77 of 287) Silver cross with enamel. This Order can trace its origins to the Order of the Knights of the Hospital of St. Mary of the Teutons in Jerusalem. It was originally founded as a military Order in 1128 to care for sick and wounded Christian pilgrims, and establish hospitals in the Holy Land. The Order was founded on November, 19, 1190 from Duke Friedrich from Swabia. The Order was recognized as a Roman Catholic Order by subsequent Popes, abolished by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1809, re-instituted in 1815 under the protection of Imperial Austria, and reformed by Emperor Ferdinand I in 1840 and 1871. The Imperial Austrian Order iteration was conferred upon nobles and members of the clergy who committed themselves to the field of nursing and the practice of mercy.

Lot #236 (Sale Order 246 of 287) There is a typewritten letter which has been translated and states on behalf of Von Manstein he was not responsible for a war crime that an SS officer has sworn he was. Several newspaper clippings. There is a partial typewritten page indicating Von Manstein is requesting that due to bad health he be allowed to be held at his home with Military supervision. It is hand signed by Von Manstein. Field Marshal Erich Von Manstein was one of Hitler's top Field Marshals! His signature is fairly scarce.

Early War Production Iron Cross 1st Class With Pin Back Lot #237 (Sale Order 247 of 287) 3 piece construction with what appears to be a zinc or even quite possibly an aluminum alloy center. Some manufacturers were known early on to have used different materials for the center other than iron until in 1942, it was mandated to stop this and use only an iron core center. No maker marks evident. The semi flat black enamel finish appears to have age and quite possibly was period retouched.
