Lot #38 (Sale Order 38 of 70)

Lithographed tin figures of Maggie and Jiggs from the 1913 comic strip series of George McManus, are posed on tin wheeled platforms that are connected to each other by a flexible tin strip. Jiggs holds his cane and Maggie holds her rolling pin, while her little dog is at her side. When wound, the toy moves in eccentric ways, the tin strip offers "bounce" and gives the illusion of a rowdy fight between the two. Overall excellent, functions well. Germany, Einfalt, circa 1920s, an imaginative toy whose action complements the cartoon activities of the good-times Jiggs and his socially-proper wife Maggie.

The table has elegantly-curved cabriole legs and raised detail of carving around the frame, with silk table cover having a hand-painted scene of a busy Paris street. Along with fancy side chair with urn design on the back and original silk seat. Very good condition. Circa 1875.

The bisque shoulderhead doll with painted features is attached to slender kid body with wooden lower limbs (so-called "milliner's model style"), and is wearing multi-layered black woolen nun's habit. Along with a wooden spinning wheel and needlework frame with attached linen sampler ready to be worked. Excellent condition, doll has missing feet (hidden under the gown). Mid-1800s, the two household miniatures are quite rare.

Bisque swivel head, blue glass sleep and side-glancing googly eyes, closed mouth, blonde mohair wig, all-bisque body with loop-jointing at shoulders and hips, painted blue socks, black one-strap shoes. Marks: 189 2 1/2 (head) 4 1/2 (limbs). Excellent condition, restoration to hidden stringing loop on right leg. Germany, circa 1920.

"All-cloth doll with pressed molded face, painted complexion and features, shaded blue eyes, closed mouth with row of painted teeth, original brunette human hair wig, muslin stitch-jointed body with oil-painted lower arms and legs, bare feet, antique dress, pinafore, undergarments. Marks: (Rollinson red stamp on back torso). Excellent condition. Gertrude Rollinson, circa 1920, patented the rare doll, few examples exist and virtually none in this fine state of preservation; the wigged variation is especially rare.
