18 HP Autlman & Taylor Steam Traction Engine Lot #204 (Sale Order 147 of 259) In 1859 Cornelius Aultman founded the C. Aultman & Co. of Canton, Ohio, and then, in 1867, he co-founded the Aultman & Taylor Machinery Co. of Mansfield, Ohio, with partner Henry Hobart Taylor. The two companies had no relationship other than Cornelius Aultman?s involvement in the creation of both. The growing demand for larger threshers and the fact that the Aultman Taylor vibrating thresher required steady power that was impossible to secure with horse powerforced Aultman Taylor into the steam-engine market. In 1867, they selected a portable engine they deemed the most perfect of all those that were proposed. During the 1870s and 80s, Aultman & Taylor enjoyed rapid expansion as they began to produce steam engines in large quantities.
This 1912 Aultman Taylor engine is one of the finest original you'll find anywhere. The pinstriping and decals are still visible after 100 years! This engine is fully complete, and will require some TLC before the first fire and it is undetermined the last time this engine was under pressure. Gearing looks to be in good condition, the pinions, like most steam engines, has signs of wear but still usable. These Aultman has a lot of potential and will be a fantastic addition to anyones growing collection! Strongly recommend a mechanical restoration and leave the engine in original cosmetic condition. Serial No. 8377 |

The engine was purchased by the Parker Family at an auction in Buhl, Idaho in 1974 from the Ed Vogel Collection. The Advance was used to power the sawmill for the Parker Family for several years. Older restoration, rubber pads have been added to the drive wheels for a smoother ride on the hard surfaced roads! Serial No. 13345 |

40 HP Case Steam Traction Engine Lot #209 (Sale Order 152 of 259) Originally built as a 12 HP model in 1898, it received a rating of 36 HP in 1910. Within a year the 36 was re-rated and revitalized so as to gain a 40 HP rating. During the Winnipeg Trials Case stated these engines would develop 63.35 brake horsepower using 140 PSI of steam. Along with the new rating the drive components were "beefed up"
This early 40 HP steam engine features contractor bunkers, steam water pump, good gearing, the early smoke box door and correct clutch control. The engine has not been fired in several years but has been stored under a roof. Older restoration but ready for a new life! Will make a nice engine for any collector who is looking for a full sized engine but nothing big. |

25 HP Huber Steam Traction Engine Lot #210 (Sale Order 153 of 259) The Huber Manufacturing Company was organized by Edwin Huber in 1874. In 1877 Huber began production of steam engines with a portable steam engine giving power to grain separators. In 1878 Huber developed its first steam traction engine. Huber patented a return-flue boiler, which returned the heat back through the boiler. He claimed to have gained a 40 percent increase in fuel efficiency with the return flue compared to the straight-through flue heating system. Huber manufactured steam engines in a range of sizes, from 5 and 6 hp portable units to 16, 18, 20, 25 and 30 hp traction engines.

16 HP Russell Steam Traction Engine Lot #211 (Sale Order 154 of 259) There is no exact date available for when the Russell brothers started making steam tractor engines, but it is believed to have begun shortly after their incorporation of their company in 1878. From 1882 to 1924, Russell manufactured nearly 16,000 Russel traction engines ranging in sizes from 6 HP all the way up to 150 HP. Russell offered engines for nearly every application.
This 16 HP Russell is as nice as they come! Full sized steam engine but still small enough one person can easily operate and haul to different steam shows. This engine is all original, with factory pinstriping still visible, except for the replacement smokestack and new rough cut water and fuel bunkers on the rear platform. Gearing is in good condition along with the cast rear wheels. Serial No. 16715 |

20 HP Advance Rumely Universal Steam Traction Engine Lot #212 (Sale Order 155 of 259) Meinrad Rumely emigrated from Germany in 1848, joining his brother John Rumely in the operation of a foundry in La Porte, Indiana. This operation had expanded by 1859 into the production of threshing machines and corn shellers that were powered by horses. Following success in this new field, Meinrad then bought out his brother's portion of the business and incorporated it as the M. Rumely Company by 1887. In 1895, the line expanded to include steam-powered traction engines. From 1911-1912, M. Rumely Company began purchasing other companies in the business. The Advance Thresher Company and Gaar-Scott & Co were both acquired in 1911. It wasn't until 1915 when the company organized under the name Advance-Rumely. |

Aultman & Taylor Steam Traction Engine Lot #213 (Sale Order 156 of 259) During the 1870s and 80s, Aultman & Taylor enjoyed rapid expansion as they began to produce steam engines in large quantities. The company had 1,045 different patterns for casting, and casted 16 tons of iron daily. The Aultman & Taylor Co. had a unique trademark and mascot, the starved rooster. They conceived the idea to use the ?Starved Rooster? as their trademark. The description of the trademark appears as follows: ?Said trademark is designed for use in connection with threshing machines, and it is intended to indicate that the straw that has been threshed by our machines has all the grain so thoroughly and entirely removed from it that no carnivorous animal could get a living out of it but on the contrary would soon starve, even though allowed to pick over an entire stack of straw.
The restoration has been started on this early 1909 Aultman Taylor just needs to be finished. Engine is complete and with a little TLC will make a great addition to your collection. Gearing looks to be in good condition. Serial No. 7724 |

20 HP Nichols & Shepard Steam Traction Engine Lot #214 (Sale Order 157 of 259) Of all the companies that manufactured steam traction engines in the U.S., Nichols & Shepard Co. was one of the earliest and most stubbornly resistant to change. Company leaders believed gasoline tractors were but a passing fancy, according to C.H. Wendel. Nichols & Shepard continued to build steam traction engines long after most other companies had succumbed, and its unofficial motto was 'Steam is, was and always will be king. In 1848 John Nichols started a small blacksmith shop in Battle Creek, Mich. A few years later he added a small foundry and asked Charles H. Shepard to come in as a business partner. Virtually nothing is known of the early products from Nichols, Shepard & Co.
This 20 HP Nichols and Shepard is one of the finest examples of a double cylinder side mount engine you will find. The boiler was designed to burn straw while threshing. The straw arch has been taken out of the firebox, like most were, in order to make it easier to burn cool or wood. The boiler also has 2 1/2" tubes. Gearing looks to be in good condition, has an older restoration, good water and fuel tanks. Serial No. 11409 |

16 HP Nichols & Shepard Steam Traction Engine Lot #216 (Sale Order 159 of 259) The famed Nichols and Shepard Company started in the 1850s as a result of a partnership between two talented blacksmiths. Their innovation included the standard shaker-style separators which became standard as well as numerous patents with advanced steam engine technology.
This 16 HP double cylinder side mount engine may have started its life at a steam traction engine, but in the 50's the 16 was transformed into a "Road Locomotive" with front wheel assist! With a new look and an easier way to travel the paved roads the Parker family traveled many miles with the local parades around Sandy, UT. According to Mr. Parker horses were not a fan of this engine and neither were the riders! Please note the rear and front steer wheels will sell with the engine if the new owner wishes to put the engine back to original. Serial No. 12877 |

25 HP Reeves Steam Engine Lot #217 (Sale Order 160 of 259) Your next project awaits you, a 25 HP Reeves steam engine with some assembly required. Reeves & Co. of Columbus, Indiana was established in 1874, and began building steam engines in 1895. They built some of the largest steam traction engines in North America, with the biggest being the massive 40-140 horsepower machine. Reeves used twin-cylinder engines on its traction engines, of both the cross-compound and double-simple type. The company was purchased by Emerson-Brantingham in 1912, but the Reeves Works continued in operation and the Reeves name was retained on the traction engines until production ceased in 1925. It is uncertain what year this 25 HP Reeves was manufactured as the serial tag is missing. This engine was disassembled several years ago when the decision for a new boiler was made. Unfortunately the new boiler was never finished and the old boiler has disappeared leaving what you see in the pictures.

Avery Model 12-25 Two-Cylinder Tractor Lot #219 (Sale Order 162 of 259) The Avery Company was famed for its steam engines and threshing machines prior to entering into tractor manufacturing in 1909. Known for their innovation early in the company's history, they succumbed to shifting market trends away from large to small tractors. Then, the Great Depression all but sealed their fate. This Avery 12-25 is a rare example of their two-cylinder opposed engine design, instead of their standard four-cylinder opposed engines. This tractor has very noticable original decals and pen striping. It is missing the radiator but is overall mostly complete and is an excellent candidate for a mechanical restoration.
