GOLD! NOW THIS IS AWESOME!!! VERY SCARCE GOLD HAWAII 1993 Set Lot #7 (Sale Order 8 of 250) "1993 Hawaii Sovereign Silver and Gold Proof Set. In 1993, on the 100th anniversary of the overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii and the loss of sovereignty for the Hawaiian people, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs authorized the striking and release of a special four-proof set from the Royal Hawaiian Mint struck in 99.99% pure gold and 99.9% fine silver. The obverse of each proof features a portrait of King Kamehameha I, the man who united and became the first MO’I (king) of the Hawaiian Islands. The reverse displays each proof’s weight and purity, along with the individual number of the set to which the proofs belong. The set includes a quarter-ounce gold, tenth-ounce gold, twentieth-ounce gold and one-ounce silver proofs. This four-piece set is the FIRST-EVER gold and silver proof set issued by the Royal Hawaiian Mint! These proofs also represent the first Hawaiian coins authorized by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in more than 100 years. The obverse of each coin features a heroic image of King Kamehameha based on the iconic statue that stands on King Street across from Iolani Palace in downtown Honolulu. King Kamehameha is credited with founding the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1782. The set was released in 1993 on the 100th anniversary of the overthrow of the kingdom by the United States. The image shown on the reverse of each coin features a canoe symbolizing the arrival of the Hawaiians along with a five sided “puela,” an ancient banner flown by the reigning chief as an emblem of authority.

This is one of the middle class that was made by either a jeweler or goldsmith. They were meant to circulate as currency, but aren't considered as valuable as the first class of Cal gold.
