Shirley Temple "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm",Unique Costume,Shirley Temple Collection 1600/2100 Lot #332 (Sale Order 10 of 163) 13" (33 cm.) All-composition with socket head, jointing at shoulders and legs, hazel sleep eyes, human hair lashes, open mouth with smiling expression, blonde mohair ringlet-curled hair. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: Shirley Temple 13. Comments: Ideal, circa 1938; from the original Shirley Temple family archives. In her 1945 book, "My Young Life", Shirley Temple related her fascination with the wardrobe department of Fox, and her friendship with Ande, the wardrobe woman. "During the making of a picture, I would pick out the costume I liked best, and Ande would dress a doll in a miniature duplicate of that costume, made from scraps of the same material". This doll is one such example. Value Points: truly one-of-a-kind, wearing blue chambray overalls and plaid shirt in exact style and materials as the actual costume worn by Shirley in her film role, along with woven farmer's straw hat and carrying a miniature black and white piglet as from the runaway piglet scene in the film. Included is certificate of authenticity from the original auction where it was presented in 2015.

The simply-constructed all-wooden dolls are designed with one-piece head and hollow torso and loosely-attached legs; when placed on a ramp, the dolls are designed to "walk", descending quickly or slowly depending on the angle of the ramp. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: (some have remnants of original Made in USA stamp). Comments: The "Wilson Walkies" were made during the 1930s Depression Era at the Watsonville Door and Sash Company in Watsonville, Pennsylvania with the aim of providing work to hometown residents. The amusing figures were made in a variety of models, with cloth or painted costumes. Value Points: the collection including Santa Claus figures, nurses, Olive Oyl, penguin, black women, army soldier, and more.

French Musical Mechanical Waltzing Couple by Vichy 3500/4800 Lot #447 (Sale Order 123 of 163) 14" (36 cm.) Two bisque head dolls, each with blue glass enamel eyes, closed mouth, and original mohair wig, representing an adult man or woman, posed as though to begin a formal dance, she with bisque arms and hands, and he with original Vichy metal hands. Although they appear to be standing on the floor, in actuality a cone-shaped form, hidden under the woman's skirt, not only supports both figures, but also contains the mechanical works; the man is attached to the metal cone by a heavy metal rod. When wound, they twirl around and around, then glide forward on the three wheels hidden at the bottom of the cone form, while two tunes play. Condition: woman has repair around her left eye and arms are not original, costumes not original, music and motion function well. Marks: G. Vichy Fils Paris (original Vichy metal tag). Comments: G.
