Dan Wesson’s S&W Pre-Model 27 .357 Revolver

This Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum Pre-Model 27 Five Screw Variation revolver serial number S80337 was shipped from the factory to Dan Wesson, Smith & Wesson, Springfield, MA on February 13, 1951. Company records indicate that it has a 5 inch barrel and a blue finish. Mr. Wesson had the pistol hand engraved by Waffen-Bock of Frankfurt Germany. The shadow engraving features a moose and a bear on the frame and yoke. The carved and checkered "Tuskoid" grips are decorated to match the engraving on the revolver and include large S&W medallions in the style used prior to WW II. This was Dan Wesson's personal revolver, which he designed himself. The condition of the pistol is excellent. This pistol was a NRA Silver Medal winner for one of the 10 best arms exhibited at the 2006 Annual Meeting. It is featured in the book Smith & Wesson Engraving by Michael J. Kennelly on pages 338 and 339. Included with this group, besides the pistol, is the cased NRA Silver Medal, an author signed hardcover copy of Smith & Wesson Engraving, and a binder of correspondence with S&W factory letters, and emails that layout the provenance of the pistol. (Joseph Condon was a master firearms engraver and his work is highly prized by collectors.) The barrel, cylinder, trigger and guard, and backstrap are in nickel finish. The frame retains original case hardened finish. Fitted with original Colt factory grips. Manufactured in 1962, and comes with a letter of authentication from Kathleen Hoyt, Historian for Colt's Manufacturing, sent to Mr. Mike Hollway in Feb 2008. Czech Bayonet w/Scabbard. After the formation of Czechoslovakia, the BRNO arms factory would sell many rifles to countries around the world and with those rifles came bayonets. This bayonet has the marking, “CSZ“ on one side of the base of the blade and a proof mark on the other. The blade is in the white and is coated in a preservative grease. The wood grips have some scratches and there is a small gouge in the grips near the crossguard. The pommel has the number “7159“ stamped into it. The scabbard has the marking “CSZ 23“ on the frog stud. See photos. Good condition.

Japanese Samurai Sword From Mukden POW Camp. Accompanying this sword is a typed letter dated 8 September 1945, which states that this sword was taken at Camp Hoten, Mukden, Manchuria from Katsutake Huikata who was a 1st Lt. in the Japanese Imperial Army and was in charge of all labor performed by the POWs. It also states that the sword is 400 years old and the exchange was witnessed by a Capt. William E. Webb. Mukden POW camp is widely documented and is now the site of a museum. The letter is accompanied by a B&W postwar snapshot of a man in civilian clothes holding the sword, identified as Lester Leroy Pierson. He was the individual that the sword was surrendered to during the POW recovery process. Both items come with a plain white envelope with Lester Leroy Pierson U.S. Army handwritten on it. The sword is in excellent overall condition. The edge looks flawless with no visible knicks. There is no rust or staining on the blade, The tip is perfect. The temper line is very nice and runs to the tip of the blade. The handle and scabbard are in VG condition. The blade measures 27" from the tip to the tsuba. We did not find any marks on the tang. **Also included in this auction are photos of Lester Leroy Pierson in uniform, and a photo of a shadowbox containing his medals. The medals pictured here are for historical reference only and are still in the possession of the family. The medals themselves are not included in this auction, only a photograph of them.

Colonel Ovid O. Wilson Mukden POW Camp Deposition

Lieutenant Colonel Ovid O. Wilson Bataan Death March Deposition. Lt. Col. O.O. Wilson, G-1, II PHL Corps typed 10 page deposition relating in graphic detail his time as a POW from April of 1942 until his liberation at Camp Hoten Mukden Manchuria. Col. Wilson was sent to Japan aboard one of the infamous "Hell ships". Col. Wilson ended his POW time at Camp Hoten, Mukden Manchuria on August 16th 1945. A 6 man OSS Parachute Team liberated the camp. The OSS wanted to get General Wainwright and other high ranking officers out ahead of the Russian forces which arrived 3 days later on Aug 19th. On Aug 29th, the US POW Recovery Team No. 1, consisting of 19 men under the command of Lt. Col James R. Donovan arrived to care for and relocate the US POWs. This 10 page carbon copy of Wilson's deposition is in very good condition . Lt. Col. Wilson would return to the US and remain in the army until 1954 as a full Colonel. For an extended biography of Colonel Wilson, Google "Ovid O. Wilson". Included in this lot is an 8x10 B&W photo of Wilson in Uniform post war, and 2 news articles.

Blade measures 30" long. Scabbard probable old replacement or has new leather. Fits sword well but is 1/4" short. Not too many of these floating around anymore.

German WWII Waffen SS Schutz Staffel Double Decal Combat Helmet Shell. The helmet shell itself is painted with an OD green paint. Has the Waffen SS runic decal on the right side. Has the swastika decal on the left side. The inside skirt is maker and size marked ‘Q 64’. The batch number is ‘1714’ on back portion of the skirt. Includes the three helmet rivets with the three nickel brads. The addition of a leather liner and metal band will make this helmet a perfect restoration piece. Post WWII Belgian Mk II Helmet

Post WWII Belgian Mk II helmet was a copy of the British Mk II Brodie helmet, produced from 1949 to 1952. The main difference between the Belgium and British helmets were the liner. The Belgium helmets had brown liners with 5 tongues and brown draw string. Liner is marked "55" and the side of the helmet has the Belgium flag. Helmet has some wear and minor rust along the edge of the bring. Chin straps are broken and the leather is in good condition. See photos.
