Antique Colt SAA, Sheriff's Model, 6-shot Revolver, .44/40 caliber, SN 79032, manufactured 1882, 4" barrel with contemporary engraving in a period style pattern. Extremely scarce, antique Colt, Model 1877, SN 34040, a.k.a. The Lightning.

Lot #334 (Sale Order 334 of 413)

Extremely scarce, antique Colt, Model 1877, SN 34040, a.k.a. The Lightning. This is a very scarce 2” barrel, .38 caliber, 6-shot Revolver with nickel finish and checkered ivory stocks. This Revolver will come with a Colt Archive Letter that confirms .38 caliber, 2” barrel, nickel finish with rubber stocks and shipped to J.P. Moore’s in New York on March 3, 1882 in a three gun shipment. The serial number matches on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap. There is no barrel address due to the limited amount of space on the 2” barrel. The clearly readable etched panel reads “COLT D.A. 38”. There is a high percentage of original nickel finish remaining throughout this revolver. The checkered ivory grips fit perfectly but may not be as old as the revolver. The action functions properly and the bore is good. This Colt is accompanied by a small Holster with border tooling and stamped pattern on the front and top of the strap. There are stitches and edge lining missing in a few places.

Early Half Seat Saddle with square skirt and Samstag Rig, 14" seat, 4" cantle, metal wrapped wooden stirrups, some felt remains, leather is supple. This exact saddle was on display at the National Cowboy Museum, maker John S. Collins, Cheyenne, Wyo., (1881-1885). Cattle drives to the northern ranges brought an economic boom to Cheyenne, Wyoming, attracting the interests of leading saddle makers like E.L. Gallatin, Frank A. Meanea and John S. Collins. Their popular half-seat saddles included improved trees and large saddle skirts with exposed rigging for easy maintenance. A lip on the cantle (back of the seat) known as a "Cheyenne roll" also served as a handle in a pinch.

Antique, Cased Remington, New Model, SN 14002, Factory Conversion Revolver.

Lot #466 (Sale Order 466 of 413)

Antique, Cased Remington, New Model, SN 14002, Factory Conversion Revolver. The serial number is marked on the grip frame under the grips and on the bottom of the barrel. This is a 5-shot, .36 caliber percussion Revolver with a 3 1/2” barrel and blue finish, manufactured circa 1873. The barrel address is partially obscured by the front sight placement. This could indicate that the barrel was shortened although the barrel doesn’t appear to have been cut. The barrel, cylinder and cartridge conversion cylinder all have a significant amount of blue remaining. The trigger guard has some silver plating remaining. The bore is very good and the action functions properly. The original case comes with a powder flask, a Colts Patent marked bullet mold, the conversion cylinder and cap, a number of round lead balls and a working key.

Lot #467 (Sale Order 467 of 413)

Antique, English Cased Colt, 1851 Navy, SN 179487, "Enfield Armory" marked Revolver. This revolver is pictured on page 122 in the book “COLONEL COLT LONDON” by Joseph G. Rosa and mentioned by serial number on pages 172 & 173 in the book “ ‘51 Colt Navies” by Nathan L. Swayze as an example of a scarce "Enfield" marked Navy revolver. Mr. Swayze is only aware of 16 such revolvers that exist in this country with all of them being in the 179487-188258 serial number range. The serial numbers match on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap with the last four on the cylinder. Some of these serial numbers are factory over stamped to provide proper matching. This is a 6-shot, .36 caliber, percussion revolver with a 7 1/2” barrel manufactured in 1864. The New York barrel address is lightly rolled but all readable as is the patent mark on the frame. The cylinder scene is light and partly visible. There are London proof marks on the barrel and cylinder. The barrel has traces of blue finish and the frame has flashes of case colors. The loading lever has more pronounced case colors on the lug. The original walnut grips have a significant amount of original varnish and a number of nicks and dings. The English Case is complete with proper and correct accoutrements including a Hawksley Powder Flask, UMC Cap Tin w/caps, a Colts Patent Bullet Mold, a Nipple Wrench and several round Lead Balls. The label inside the lid is nearly all intact but a little tattered. The lining in the case has some old repairs, loose partitions and minor missing felt. The exterior of the case is in good condition with normal bumps and bruises for the age. The action is good and the bore is average. Accompanying this English Cased Colt will be two books titled " '51 Colt Navies" by Nathan L. Swayze and "Colonel Colt London" by Joseph G. Rosa. WILL SELL AS ONE .

. Antique, fine condition, Cased Colt, Model 1849, Revolver, SN 291198. This is a 6-shot, 4” barrel, .31 caliber percussion revolver with blue finish, walnut stock and manufactured in 1867. The serial numbers match on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap with the last four digits on the cylinder and the last five on the wedge. The New York barrel address is strong as is the frame marking. There is a high percentage of original blue finish and case colors on all parts along with most of the original varnish on the perfect fitting grips. The Case is a period case that has been relined with new felt and includes a Powder Flask and "Colts Patent" marked Bullet Mold. The bore is excellent and the action is tight and solid.

Antique, Cased Colt, 1855 Root Sidehammer, SN 1198, Model 2 in silver finish. The serial number matches on the bottom of the butt on the bottom of the barrel and on the cylinder. This is a 5-shot, .28 caliber percussion revolver with a 3 1/2” barrel manufactured in 1855. The barrel address is mostly readable with flaking and pitting obscuring parts. The cylinder scene is mostly visible. The wood grips retain most of their original varnish but do not appear original to this revolver. The action doesn’t function properly and will need repairs. The bore is very nice. The period case is in very good condition and has proper accoutrements including a "Colts Patent" marked Powder Flask and Bullet Mold along with an empty Goldmark Cap Tin and a rusted Emperez (?) marked Turnscrew.

Lot #479 (Sale Order 479 of 413)

Antique Colt, 1849 Conversion Revolver, SN 81203, .32 caliber rimfire. This is a blacksmith conversion of a 4” barrel, .31 caliber, 5-shot, percussion revolver. The back of the cylinder was cut to remove the percussion nipples and expose a bored through cylinder. A spacer was made to fill the void. The loading lever and it’s hardware has been removed. It appears that the firing pin has been removed. The serial numbers match on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder. The replacement wedge is not numbered. The New York barrel address is clear as is the small Colts Patent on the frame. About half of the cylinder scene is visible. The grips fit well and may be original. The action functions and the bore is fair.

Lot #480 (Sale Order 480 of 413)

Antique Colt, New Model Police, Revolver, SN 316316, .38 caliber rimfire, with a 5-shot cylinder. Sometimes referred to as conversions, these are described in the book "Variations of COLT'S" by Breslin, Pirie & Price as a Type 5 - New Model Police Breech Loading Revolver with a new 3 1/2" round, solid barrel. While the barrel was made specifically for use as a cartridge gun, the frame on this Colt was converted from percussion. The serial number matches on the frame, trigger guard and backstrap with the numbers on the barrel and cylinder being too worn to read. The wedge is loose, not matching and is marked 25547. The serial number is in the upper range of the 1849 Pocket Model frame range and has the new breech loading patent dates. The original .31 CAL has not been over stamped with .36 CAL which is typically seen on this model. The factory conversion markings are all clear and readable. The action functions but does not advance the cylinder fully and has play in full lock up. The bore is dark. The replacement wood grips are undersized and have an old coat of added varnish.
