WW2 8th Army Air Force Pilot's English Made "Ike" Jacket-Bullion Insignia-Eagle Squadron? Lot #120 (Sale Order 141 of 253) Small size, British tailor made Officer's quality "Ike" style waist jacket. London tailor tag indicates tailor made by RAMAN, a known WW2 period British Tailor. Bullion AAF U.S. and winged prop lapel insignia. Bullion Major's rank insignia on each shoulder strap. Hand embroidered 8th Army Air Force patch on left shoulder. Rectangular blue wool combat pilot patch and 3 place ribbon bar above the left breast pocket. Ribbons shown are the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster and the British DFC ribbon. The left cuff has 3 bullion service bars. Above the right breast pocket is an embroidered miniature RAF pilot wing. The overall condition is extremely fine exhibiting minor period wear and light soiling. Although the jacket is not named and we are certainly not trying to make it something it isn't as this jacket is from an advanced collection with no firm provenance, but the pilot could quite possibly have been a member of the U.S. Volunteer Eagle Squadron before switching over to 8th AAF duty. Researching awards of Eagle Squadron pilots (Haugland's books) this jacket could have quite possibly belonged Major Oscar Coen. Coen was small in stature and was a Major from December 1942 (which was just after the Eagle Squadron disbanded) until October 1943. There were only 17 American eagle Squadron members who won RAF awards. Three were double awards of the British DFC and there was one DSO and one MC medals awarded. That would narrow the field to 12. Many former American Eagle Squadron pilots had more U.S. awards than are shown on this particular example. The ribbons shown on this jacket would correlate with the decorations Coen would have worn during this same period as a Major. Please bid based on your own research and/or assessment.

WW2/Cold War Era Russian Officer's Visor Cap For "Special Troops" Lot #209 (Sale Order 233 of 253) This cap would have been worn by a Special Troops' officer or extended service sergeant for service duty and for dress and was in wear 1939-1948. The interior crown shield shows wear and size stamp of 57 is evident. Special Troops were a unique grouping of military services responsible for rear support of combat arms' formations. Although the unique black band (wool again - not velvet) and dark blue piping was common to all special troop officers and troops, these troops were further sub-divided into service types distinguished by unique collar and shoulder board insignia. Components of the Special Troops included: railroad, engineer, signal, air defense searchlight, construction, military topographical, and pipeline troops. Railroad officers and generals of all these branches used different color combinations, however. The crown is light khaki wool and an oilcloth chinstrap is held in place by two brass buttons. The visor is made of spade-shaped fiberboard of an angled design popular with officers, although it was not specifically prescribed in Army regulations. A brass and enamel M39 star is pinned through the band.
