Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

By New Orleans standards, the mintage was large -- more than 10.7 million pieces were struck, yet no appreciable Mint sewn bags have materialized during the past 60 to 70 years. In Gem or finer conditions, no other Morgan dollar issue is rarer, based on the combined certified populations at PCGS and NGC. This lightly toned, frosty white Mint State example, with a strong strike and great breast feathers, of this well known condition rarity is sure to please.

Up for Auction is a terrific Uncirculated 1865-s Double Eagle, that has seen quite the adventure before landing in our auction. This terrific coin began its life at the “Granite Lady” in San Francisco in the waning days of the Civil War. It was quickly put aboard the Doomed Brother Jonathan, a paddle steamer, out of San Francisco Bay. Early on Sunday Morning, July 30 1865, the Ship which was riding low and overloaded, laden heavily with gold, was towed out to sea. Within hours of leaving San Francisco Bay for Portland and Victoria, British Columbia, the seas turned very rough near the California-Oregon border and the captain ordered the ship turned around for the harbor of Crescent City. Fifty-five minutes later on that return and close to port, the ship struck a rock, tearing a large hole in the hull. A heavy ore crusher had been loaded in the cargo hold directly above the repaired portion of the hull and smashed through it as well. Within five minutes, the captain realized the ship was foundering and ordered the passengers and crew to abandon ship. Although there were enough lifeboats to hold all of the people on board, only three boats could be deployed. Acts of courage and desperation, fear and self-sacrifice, were numerous. The rough waves capsized the first lifeboat that was lowered and smashed the second against the vessel's sides. Only a single surfboat, holding eleven crew members, five women, and three children, managed to escape and make it safely to Crescent City. For its final voyage, crates of gold coins had been loaded on the vessel, including the annual treaty payments in gold for Indian tribes. A large ship's safe safeguarded jewelry, more gold coins, and gold bars. The gold alone was valued at $50 million in today's dollars. Divers and ships began searching for the sunken treasure two weeks after the disaster, but despite the attempts of numerous people, for over 125 years, the ship's treasure of gold and artifacts were not found. Despite the fact that Brother Jonathan sank just 8 miles from shore, the storms, rocky passageways, underwater currents, and underwater darkness prevented it from being found. In 1996, a mini-sub passed a "glint" on the bottom, raising curiosity. On August 30, 1996, divers found 875 gold coins from the 1860s in near-mint condition. Over time, the salvors recovered 1,207 gold coins, primarily $20 double eagles. Today we are pleased to be able to bring to our auction, one of the 1865-s Double Eagles brought up from the Ocean floor. Orange and rose-gold surfaces showcase strong mint luster and a strike average for the date, showing some softness in Liberty’s hair and the eagles wings, both sides are marred by many tiny abrasions but none worthy of singular mention, no wear is present and full mint luster remains. Following its original authorization seven years earlier, the Carson City Mint finally opened for business early in January 1870. Coinage began just one month later when 2,303 Seated Liberty dollars were minted on February 10. The Carson City Mint continued to produce 12,462 of the cartwheels that year. Several obverse and reverse dies were used for the 1870-CC Seated dollar. Three obverse dies and five reverse dies have been identified. Further study of these dies in their various combinations might reveal the actual order of use, and perhaps provide a key to identification of the first examples struck that cold February day.This au58+ Details has attractive heavily and colorfully toned surfaces with above average design definition. No die cracks or clash marks are visible on either side, and the somewhat reflective surfaces suggest an early strike, possible one of the first coins ever minted in Carson City. 1918 $1 National Currency Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, OH Fr-719 George Washinton Grades f, fine. FR 719. There are three different years found on series of 1918 one dollar bills. Despite also saying 1914 and 1913, these are referred to by collectors as 1918 federal reserve bank notes. Collectors have given this note the nickname of the “Flying Eagle.” The back of the note shows why the bill received its nickname. Keep in mind that series of 1918 one dollar federal reserve bank notes were issued for 12 different banks. The artwork will all be the same though. George Washington is on the left hand side of the bill. There is a blue seal on the right hand side of the bill and the serial numbers are in blue ink. In total there are 39 different signature combinations for 1918 one dollar federal reserve notes

The present friction-free example shows the under digit 7 as it initially left the Mint. It has slightly lower relief than the over digit 8, which makes the upper right corner and the upper half of the downstroke even more distinct. This attribute is lost on circulated pieces, since the date is exposed and wears quickly. This nicely struck representative exhibits matte surfaces and lacks relevant marks. The surfaces are granular. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart.

The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. State of Connecticut June 1, 1780 9 Pence Fr. CT-226 Canceled Grades Choice AU/BU Slider. An emission of £50,000 in bills of credit as Treasury Notes payable by March 1, 1784 with 5% interest in Spanish milled dollars at the rate of 6s per milled dollar, or silver or gold coin equivalent. Printed in New London by Timothy Green II with engraved borders and typeset text. (This Green is the first cousin once removed of Timothy Green Jr., who had printed currency for Connecticut until his death on October 3, 1763). The front of each note shows the seal of the colony with three grape vines and a hand that points to the right on some denominations and to the left on others. The scroll carries the abbreviated motto "QUI TRAN SUST" sometimes lacking the final N or final T (What is transplanted survives). In the border is: "SIGILLUM : COLON : CONNECTICENSIS" (Seal of the Colony of Connecticut). This form of the seal was on every emission from 1755 -1780. The June 1780 emission was signed and numbered in red ink and usually slash or hole canceled upon redemption. The denominations printed were: 9d, 1s3d, 1s6d, 5s, 10s, 20s and 40s notes.

1870's US Fractional Currency 25c Fifth Issue fr-1308 Grades xf. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number. William Meredith is pictured on the front.

Ranked #16 in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes, the Series 1899 Black Eagle note is from an era when paper money was backed by precious silver, as the issue bears the statement ONE SILVER DOLLAR PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND. It doesn’t take much work to figure out the nickname of the 1899 $1 silver certificate. A quick glance shows three vignettes, an eagle, Ulysses S Grant, and Abraham Lincoln. Somewhere along the way the collecting world decided that this note should be called a “black eagle.” The name has stuck. Whether you have been collected for a week or your entire life, you certainly know what a black eagle is. Grant and Lincoln often get overlooked. That might be for the best since both men are closely associated with several other large size pieces of currency. According to Jaime Hernandez from PCGS, ‘The 1877 Indian Cent is unquestionably the most desirable coin in the entire circulation strike Indian Cent series. It is the second lowest mintage coin in the series, and only the 1909-S Indian cent has a lower mintage. Despite the 1877 Indian cent having the second lowest mintage in the series, it also survives in much smaller numbers than the 1909-S Indian cent. This is mainly due to the lack of coins being collected in 1877 compared to 1909. There is only one reverse die confirmed as striking all existing 1877 Indian cents. However, if there was only one reverse die employed to strike all (877,000)1877 Indian cents, then this lone die should have sustained major planchet flaws when striking such a large mintage. Surprisingly, this is not the case since 1877 cents show no traces of a damaged die. Therefore, it is strongly believed that the mintage of 877,000 coins struck, is actually a highly inflated figure. This note has a red seal and red serial numbers. It is interesting to note that James B McPherson is the only person to die in the Civil War who was later featured on United States paper money. McPherson was also the second highest ranking Union officer to die in the Civil War. Collecting paper money by portrait has always been an interesting but very challenging way to put together a currency collection. It is also difficult to try to complete a collection of 1891 treasury notes. The $1,000 note is unique and a $500 1891 treasury note has yet to be discovered. Any denomination over $20 is very scarce and rarely seen. There really isn’t an accepted nickname for 1891 $2 treasury notes. Collectors definitely refer to the portrait on the bill as a quick way to identify the item. As collecting gained in popularity, the Mint began marketing coins to those collectors, especially proof coins and patterns. During this period, many restrikes of older rarities began making their appearance, including 1804 dollars, Gobrecht dollars, and many others. The U.S. Mint quickly became an active coin dealer, a role the agency continues today.The sole 1858 proof marriage, per Gerry Fortin. Per PCGS the original mintage was just 100 coins, But Breen says that number was closer to 80. Nicely struck and flashy with Deep stark contrast. The only Known Deep Cameo example, on a date that is generally unavailable with any contrast. Trends are hard to assess as no other DCAM has ever come to auction. If we look at the 1859, in Cameo the pr65 trends $3500, and in DCAM $8500, but on the 1859, about 3-4 examples are known in DCAM. On the 1858, in pr65 Cameo the coin trends $4500 and in pr66 cam $9,000. So we estimate that in pr65 DCAM the trends should be $10,500 and in pr66 DCAM $21,500. One of the most coveted and sought-after currency pieces in American history is this 1869 Legal Tender Series “Rainbow” Note, so named for the colorful appearance of the front design, which features a red Treasury seal and serial numbers, a green frame around the serial number, a green tint at the top of the note, and a vertical blue tint or “stain” that runs vertically through part of the paper. Not only are the 1869 Legal Tender Series notes the only notes which bear the label “Treasury Note” instead of the label “United States Note,” found on all later issues, this $1 note from the series also marks the very first appearance of President George Washington on any federal $1 denomination bill! Listed as #41 in the book 100 Greatest Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers, the Rainbow Note also features a vignette of Columbus arriving in the New World in the upper left corner. Full rims and dentils are seldom seen at the Fine grade level, since many lower-grade coins lack edge detail between 10 and 2 o'clock on the obverse. The reverse is likewise weak below the denomination. This Choice Fine example is an exception, with complete borders and exceptional detail for the grade. All of the raised elements show above-average definition for the grade. Rich-silver patina blankets both sides for sharp eye appeal, and there are no distracting marks or abrasions. The motto is fully readable, quite rare this nice. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1855-o Arrows WB-6 Seated Half Dollar 50c Graded ms65+ By SEGS. 0 A splendid example of this two-year type. Scintillating satiny luster shimmers beneath the silver-gray and light gold patina. The strike is full, even on Miss Liberty’s head, which is generally weakly struck. There are no marks of any significance on either side, but for a few marks just to the left of Liberty’s arm. And these cannot be noticed without magnification. A superb example, and a rare variety. It is the WB-6, with the die line through the shield on the reverse. Possibly the finest known of the variety. The distinct Arrows, No Motto half dollar type of 1854 to 1855 was created when the Mint decided to drop the rays from the reverse design. The rays, along with the arrows at the date on the obverse, were added in 1853 to denote a weight reduction for the denomination from 13.36 grams to 12.24 grams pursuant to the Act of February 21, 1853. Whereas the rays were discarded after 1853 (they likely complicated the striking process and led to early die breakage), the Mint continued the arrows through 1855.The 1855-O vies with the 1854 and 1854-O as the most popular type issue of this design. However, this New Orleans Mint issue is a noteworthy rarity at and above the Choice Mint State grade level. The present Gem is certainly finer than most that we have handled in recent, and interested collectors are urged to bid aggressively. I have provided 3 examples for your comparison.

BG-869 is among the voluminous varieties of Christopher Ferdinand Mohrig. One of the scarce overdates from this series, and the reverse die has special features too, as that die was used, then reannealed, reworked and rehardened for further coinage of this variety. Watery mirror fields on the obverse and reverse while the devices show three dimensional depth. The overdate was crudely executed on the die, and reverse die breaks on the wreath further complicate the aesthetics.

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

1864 $50 Confederate States of America Richmond CSA Bank Note T-66 Grades xf. After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart.

At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number. William Meredith is pictured on the front.

1861 $50 CONFEDERATE STATES CURRENCY CIVIL WAR NOTE T-14 Grades vf details. After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart.

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

Carefully preserved for over 155 years since the Civil War. This was the first interest bearing $100 note to be issued in large quantities by the Confederacy. They paid a 7.3% annual interest rate; double that of the First Series notes of Montgomery and Richmond. Some were issued by agents by hand, and their signatures—and sometimes the place of issue—are written on the backs. Some T-39s also have interest paid stamps on the backs indicating that the interest was collected by the bearer. The notes have a popular “Train” vignette on the front, with easily visible “straight steam” (all white) coming out of the smokestack. To the left is a vignette of a milkmaid. Once thought to be an apple, the object in her left hand above her head is most likely the handle of the bucket on her head. These notes were payable six months after the ratification of a Treaty of Peace between the Confederate States and United States and were not fundable.

1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr-1173 Grades vf, very fine. It is hard to believe that large size ten dollar gold certificates were only issued in 1907 and 1922. The United States first printed gold certificates in the early 1860s. For some reason they never printed the ten dollar denomination until 1907. 1922 was the last year of the large size gold Certificate Currnecy. In 1928 paper money was changed to the size we are accustomed to seeing today. The portrait of Alexander Hamilton was used instead of the virtually unknown Michael Hillegas. Hillegas was the first treasurer of The United States. Perhaps if Hillegas had died in a duel then he would be better remembered today. All 1922 $10 gold certificates were signed by Speelman and White. Interestingly enough, there is a small variety for the series. Some notes have smaller serial numbers than the standard numbers. The small serial number notes do command a slight premium, especially in higher grades.

Both sides of this pleasing Wreath cent have complete border beads, although they are merged with the edge of the coin in spots. The surfaces are smooth with only typical light handling marks. Both sides have chocolate-brown and mahogany patina. Breen Die State III. The stem above the date points far right, and the reverse shows a diagonal spray of berries below the first S in STATES. Die cracks travel through CA and the R in AMERICA. Breen writes that about 22,000 pieces were struck between April 13 and April 18, 1793. Wear is evident on the curls and wreath, but definition remains strong overall. Additionally, many 1793 Dollars display adjustment marks that represent the Mint’s filing down of overweight planchets to make them confirm to the legally specified weight range for this issue. While these adjustment marks are often innocuous, as on the present coin, they are sometimes so numerous as to severely compromise one or more design elements. I have included 2 other examples for your comparison. I feel ours compares very favorably.

This dollar bill is popular because it is another unique design and signature combination notes. All 1923 red seals were signed by Speelman and White. his is one of the few large size notes from the 20th century that does not have a well-known nickname. I guess some might call it a red seal horse blanket, but that is certainly not a well-used classifier. 1923 and 1928 one dollar bills are the only large size notes that were issued as both silver certificates and legal tender notes. Satin to softly frosted surfaces are brilliant apart from wisps of light russet patina here and there around the peripheries. The strike is razor sharp from the rims to the centers, and the eye appeal alone is strong enough to support an even higher grade. Like its 1942/1 counterpart, this Denver Mint overdate was struck from an obverse die whose first impression came from a 1941-dated hub, but whose second impression came from one dated 1942. As early as September of 1941 the engraving department in the Philadelphia Mint was preparing dies for 1942-dated dime coinage, the urgency brought about by the large mintages required to feed the United States' burgeoning economy of the World War Two era. Since 1941-dated dies were still in production at that time, it is easy to understand how dies could have been impressed from both 1941- and 1942-dated hubs, as described above.At least two different 1942/1 obverse dies were prepared for Mercury dime production, one of which was forwarded to the Denver Mint where it struck an unknown percentage of the 60,740,000-coin mintage reported for the 1942-D. This overdate was first reported in the November 1960 issue of The Numismatic Scrapbook Magazine, its first publication following in Frank Spadone's Major Variety and Oddity Guide of 1963. Precious few Mint State survivors have come to light since. This Denver date is famous as the rarest of the entire Indian quarter eagle series, both in terms of the surviving population and even more so in terms of non-availability in the desirable highest grades. The present coin offers glowing olive-gold luster of unusually splendid visual quality that complements a meticulously detailed strike of exceptional precision. The D mintmark is clearly visible, perhaps in the upper 50% of definition of those we have seen. Only a couple of minor marks are seen that serve to limit the grade. Some of this date's rarity in modern times might be traceable to the sparsity of determined collectors of U.S. gold by date and mintmark through the 1950s. When gold coins sold for a few cents over face, there was little incentive to seek out specific dates and when such attention was paid to the Indian series, the supply of high grade coins had dwindled grievously. The obverse portrays Brule Lakota Chief Hollow Horn Bear, who had taken part in Theodore Roosevelt's inaugural parade, March 4, 1905. The Chief died March 15, 1913, age 54, at Providence Hospital, according to the notice in the April 1913 Numismatist, which misidentified him as the model for the 1899 $5 Silver Certificates. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

Actual roll pictured is the roll you will get. A great original bank shotgun roll with very tight ends. We have opened a few of these rolls. They seem to be mixed small cents including Indians, Wheats, Steel cents & some Flying Eagles mixed in. These shotgun rolls are all from a new consignee. They are all frrom one Estate.
