CHARLES TWELVETREES ANTIQUE WWI PROPAGANDA PRINT Lot #5003 (Sale Order 3 of 497) This original WWI cartoon/propaganda print is the work of Charles Twelvetrees and dates from 1915. It is titled "Quit Your Fighting And Let's All Be Friends". It depicts each country in the conflict as a baby characterized by the demeanor and traditional clothing articles of its native country. The United States is represented by the baby in the middle of the cartoon asking the others to quit their fighting and be friends. It is signed "C. Twelvetrees" in the bottom right corner. It was copyrighted in Oct. 23, 1915, by Morris & Bendien of New York .The picture frame measures 21.75 inches by 9.75 inches and is covered in glass. It appears to be the original frame. Good condition.

The cross itself measures 1 3/8" wide by 1 3/8” tall plus the top bar. Shows a bust image of Nathaniel Bedford Forrest in the center with a KKK head stall above. It reads ‘Duty Sans Peur Et Sans Reproche Forrest 1866 1915’. The reverse side reads ‘Hero Cross Presented By The Knights Of The Ku Klux Klan (Inc)’. It is also maker marked ‘Whitehead – Hoag Newark NJ’. Includes the separate attached rectangle top bar with a thin horizontal pin back and a ‘c’ catch.
