Measures 5.25" Elias Jackson "Lucky" Baldwin (April 3, 1828 – March 1, 1909) was one of the greatest pioneers of California business, an investor, and real estate speculator during the second half of the 19th century. He earned the nickname "Lucky" Baldwin due to his extraordinary good fortune in a number of business deals. He built the luxury Baldwin Hotel and Theatre in San Francisco and bought vast tracts of land in Southern California, where a number of places and neighborhoods are named after him. His land holdings, which included Rancho Santa Anita on which he built the Santa Anita Racetrack, were subdivided into tracts which became the cities of Santa Anita, Arcadia, Monrovia, Baldwin Hills, and Sierra Madre. He led a flamboyant lifestyle that has become legend in California. Included in this lot is the pen and a brick from the original 1890 Santa Anita Train Station.

Measures 5.75" Thaddeus Sobieski Constantine Lowe (Aug 20, 1832 – Jan 16, 1913), aka Professor T. S. C. Lowe, was an American Civil War aeronaut, scientist and inventor, mostly self-educated in the fields of chemistry, meteorology, and aeronautics, and the father of military aerial reconnaissance in the United States. At the onset of the American Civil War, he offered his services performing aerial reconnaissance on the Confederate troops for the Union Army. In July 1861 Lowe was appointed Chief Aeronaut of the Union Army Balloon Corps by President Abraham Lincoln. His inventions and patents on this process and ice making machines made him a millionaire. In 1887 he moved to Los Angeles, California, and eventually built a 24,000 sq. ft. (2,230 m2) home in Pasadena. In 1891 Lowe began construction of what would become the Mount Lowe Railway into the hills above Altadena. The railway opened on July 4, 1893, and was met with quick interest and success but by 1899 Lowe had gone into receivership and eventually lost the railway. Lowe's fortunes had been all but lost, and he lived out his remaining days at his daughter's home in Pasadena, where he died at age 80. Included in this lot is the pen, and a book about the Mt. Lowe Railway.

Measures 5". Amasa Leland Stanford (March 9, 1824 – June 21, 1893) was an American industrialist and politician. He was the founder, with his wife Jane, of Stanford University. Migrating to California from New York at the time of the Gold Rush, he became a successful merchant and wholesaler, and continued to build his business empire. He spent one two-year term as Governor of California after his election in 1861, and later eight years as a United States Senator. As president of Central Pacific Railroad, beginning in 1861, and later Southern Pacific, he drove the final “Golden Spike” linking the transcontinental railroad on May 10th, 1869.

Lot of 4 Rare Anatol Nikolai Andrews FPs. Two very different varieties of 1937 A. N. Andrews "Stop-N-Go" fountain pens, "American Pen Co." Also includes two 1944 Fourth Dimension "Cap-Less" fountain pens in stainless steel, form similar to Eversharps Skyline fountain pens. One of these has internal filler tube taped to body of pen, also original maroon jewel lever-filler is in need of repair. Anatol N. Andrews was an inventor who held many fountain pen patents granted to him during the 1930's & 40's. A very reclusive man, Fred was one of the few people that he trusted and would share his ideas with. Very few examples of his pens exist and Fred had four examples. Included with this lot is Fred Krinke's folder of documentation.

Waterman Giant Vintage Advertising Display Pen. This oversized Waterman display pen, made of wood with brass overlay and nib, is from the early 1900s and hung in front of the Hardies Book Store on Broadway in Oakland California, which was also the Waterman's fountain pen agency. Fred Krinke acquired this display pen in February of 1982. Included in this lot is the original correspondence between Fred and the gentleman who sold him the pen in Oakland, an original 3.5"x6" black and white photo of the Oakland Waterman agency showing the display pen hanging in front of the store. Also includes a copy of an interview of Fred Krinke for the 1988-89 Winter edition of Pen World magazine which has a picture of Fred holding the display pen. Overall pen condition is good, has some duct tape that will need to be removed. The nib is engraved "Watermans Ideal New York" Length of the pen with nib is 62"

Fountain Pen Shop Large Diebold Floor Safe

This beautiful vintage Diebold double door fire proof safe was the centerpiece of the Fountain Pen Shop for many years. It's beautiful graphics and gold embellishments would be the focal point of any pen collection or museum display. Included with the safe is a framed photograph of Fred with the safe in the background, and 3 other framed pieces from the shop. In overall VG condition, it includes the lock combination and keys for interior compartments. Measures 65" tall, 36.5" wide, 27" deep. Will be happy to help arrange shipping. Diebold was founded in 1859 in Cincinnati, Ohio as the Diebold Bahmann Safe Company. Under the leadership of founder Charles Diebold, a German immigrant, the company's 250 initial employees began manufacturing safes and bank vaults out of a factory in Canton, Ohio. The company and its products became well known following the Great Chicago Fire of October 8, 1871. Diebold had manufactured 878 various safes and vaults that were located in buildings that the fire destroyed. All 878 safes and vaults survived intact. The following year Diebold moved its operations and headquarters to Canton to meet increased demand. Diebold debuted manganese steel doors marketed as TNT-proof in 1890.

Counter Top Engraving Machine. Manufactured by George Gorton Machine Co. Racine Wisconsin. Circa 1940s. This machine was used to engrave names and initials on items at the Fountain Pen Shop. Includes a font of letters and numerals, and a parts manual. Heavy cast iron base measures 14"x14". Sold as is, no warranties given.
