WW2 U.S. Vet Estate Japanese Swordsmith hand Forged Samurai/katana Sword-Signed Tang Lot #135 (Sale Order 139 of 306) 26" non cutdown hand forged blade with one hole tang. The tang is signed "Noshu Seki Ju Ni Jyu Sandai Kanefusa Saku Kore" which translates to "made by the 23rd generation Kanefusa from Seki, in Noshu". The temper line of the blade is still strong. A few small nicks on the cutting edge. Would not take a whole lot to put back to full polish. Black lacquer finish scabbrd indicating possible wear by Japanese Naval officer? Desirable swordsmith. Please see the photos! Here is a little history: "The Kanefusa lineage of swordsmiths of Mino Province dates back to the Muromachi era in the 1400's. The 23rd generation Kanefusa worked during the WW II era and was a direct descendant of this famous line of swordsmiths. This lineage continues today with the 25th generation Kanefusa. The 23rd generation Kanefusa's name was Kato Koichi. He was born in 1900. During the Showa period he studied under Kato Jumyo and worked in Seki (Mino / modern Gifu prefecture). During the war years he made many blades for the military, both army and navy, and for civil officials. He won numerous awards in sword exhibitions and contests during this period. He was ranked 1st Seat (National Swordsmith) in the 6th Exhibition of Swords held in 1941 (Slough). He was ranked Kibin no Retsu in 1942 by Kurihara Hikosaburo at the Tosho Banzuke (J.Kim). Many of his blades are signed as being prize winning blades. Blades by the 23rd generation Kanefusa have received origami from the NBTHK or NTHK. This school of swordsmiths is noted for making a special style of hamon known as "Kanefusa midare"...."There are several blades known made by Noshu Seki 23rd Generation Kanefusa which have the kiku-sui crest carved as a horimono on the blade (not on the nakago). These blades were not made at the Minatogawa Jinja Tanrensho and have no known connection with it. These swords probably were a special order from a group of naval officers or a naval officer's club associated with the Minatogawa battleship. This same style Minatogawa crest is occasionally found on blades by Asano Kanesane. These are also thought to be special order blades and not associated with the Minatogawa Jinja."

Scarce WW2 British Airborne/Paratrooper Helmet-BMB 1944 Dated Lot #253a (Sale Order 257 of 306) So where to start…. The shell is non magnetic as period manufactured examples were made of Manganese. The exterior textured finish is an OD color with a light brownish hue depending on the lighting. The net strands have a random camo finish and the "scrim" appears to be WW2 period. The exterior top of crown exhibits a small indentation and there is not a crown screw evident. The black leather covered interior crown pad is circular as are originals. The metal hardware buckles and metal chin strap fittings have evidence of a blackened finish which exhibits wear. It also appears that the chin strap has the correct reinforced stitching. The chin cup has the leather padding integrated with the khaki canvas strap and has the correct chamois leather attached to the chin cup interior. The black rubber composite shell padding exhibits age and stiffness. The interior webbing is khaki HBT. The leather sweatband is maker/size/date stamped "BMB 7-1/2 (inside the shield) and 1944" . The interior rim has hand painted lettering in red and white paint. The paint exhibits age crazing. The liner band edges exhibit bending for some reason. There is also a leather cord inside the liner band. These rare helmets can be tricky, especially the later war issued examples. Please bid based on your own knowledge, expertise and/or research!

Post War Vet "Walking Out" Type A-2 leather Jacket With Reverse Nose Art-By Quartermaster Uniform Lot #292 (Sale Order 296 of 306) Light brown soft goat skin leather body. Exhibits moderate overall wear. The label at the neck reads "TYPE A-2 FLIGHT JACKET AC ORDER NO. 92-1446-AF ARMY AIR FORCE MADE BY QUARTERMASTER UNIFORM LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA" and is a size 38. Construction details are very similar to WW2 period A-2 jackets. Embroidered "UNITED STATES AIR-CORPS" patch is sewn to the right front breast. There are WW2 period staff Sergeant rank stripes sewn to each sleeve. The 8th Army Air Force and Army Air Force HQ patches are cut edge examples and also appear to be WW2 vintage. Zipper pull is marked "SCOVILL". The reverse has hand painted Nose Art and is very well executed, exhibiting some very minor crazing. This jacket is a post war example and was possibly custom made/painted for wear as a WW2 veteran's "walking out" jacket or possibly manufactured for wear as a movie/TV show prop. Certainly a unique and one of a kind jacket!
