Under high pressure, the rollers And blades of these machines cancels the coins and blanks in a manner that is similar in appearance to the surface fa waffle, and they are popularly known by that term. this process has effectively kept must miss-struck coins produced after 2003 from becoming available to collectors. waffled examples are known for all six 2003 dated coin denominations., from the Lincoln cent through the Sacagawea dollar. the mint has not objected to these pieces trading in the open market.

1899 "Black Eagle" $1 Silver Certificate FR-236 Speelman-White Grades f, fine. Ranked #16 in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes, the Series 1899 Black Eagle note is from an era when paper money was backed by precious silver, as the issue bears the statement ONE SILVER DOLLAR PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND. It doesn’t take much work to figure out the nickname of the 1899 $1 silver certificate. A quick glance shows three vignettes, an eagle, Ulysses S Grant, and Abraham Lincoln. Somewhere along the way the collecting world decided that this note should be called a “black eagle.” The name has stuck. Whether you have been collected for a week or your entire life, you certainly know what a black eagle is. Grant and Lincoln often get overlooked. That might be for the best since both men are closely associated with several other large size pieces of currency. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960?s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn?t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

***Auction Highlight*** US Fractional Currency 25c Third Issue fr-1294 Bust of Wm Fessenden Green Rev Grades Select CU. William Pitt Fessenden was an American politician from the U.S. state of Maine. Fessenden was a Whig and member of the Fessenden political family. He served in the United States House of Representatives and Senate before becoming Secretary of the Treasury under President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

An exceptional example of this elusive date that boasts silver-gray surfaces over luster in the fields, and clean surfaces throughout. Fully struck by the dies and well preserved, with minimal wear on the high points of the devices. An impressive coin for the specialist and a collector's delight. Two decades ago when the authors wrote Early United States Dimes 1796-1837 they estimated that there were perhaps 10 1822 dimes in all grades of Uncirculated and another 10 grading from XF40 to AU58. While this date is certainly obtainable, finding a nice example is quite a challenge. Most coins stay in collections for a very long time, and are rarely sold. The reported mintage of 100,000 pieces is almost certainly high, with some likely dated 1821 or even 1823 that were coined during 1822. A study of over 400 auction appearances of early dimes (see Appendix E, page 269 of the dime book) clearly shows that as a date, the 1822 dime appears less frequently than the 1809 and 1811 dimes, both of which have much lower reported mintages. Furthermore, this date is just downright hard to find in grades above VG. The present AU50 is is truly a rare and desirable coin in this grade, and should not be overlooked by any serious student of numismatics. I‘ve included an au55 and an xf45 example for your comparison A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

While it has a greater mintage than either the 1901-S or 1913-S Barber quarter issues, the 1896-S was not saved at the time of release and so it is especially challenging in Mint State grades, nearly on-par with the much lower-mintage 1913-S. While this choice uncirculated example is pleasingly preserved, that preservation is only the start of its eye appeal. Both sides are boldly impressed with vibrant luster that filters through rich multicolored patina. Gold, orange, pink, and forest-green shadings are most prominent. Conditionally rare so fine. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

This roll contains 20 Morgan PRE 1921 Morgan Silver Dollars. The coins may range from circulated to uncirculated. Any condition is possible. The Dates may range from 1878 to 1904. Better dates/mint marks & conditions may be found but should not be expected. We have weighed the roll and can assure you that it is both 20 Silver Dollars and that it is not an uncirculated roll as the weight comes in slightly under the 537 grams that a fully uncirculated roll would weigh. The 1892-S is a well-known key issue in the Morgan series, and it is especially rare and desirable in mint condition. While an MS63 would be a notable example of this issue, what is unusual and worthy of consideration by the specialist about this coin is the fact that it has decidedly prooflike fields on each side. Very few prooflike coins are known of this issue, and the only ones we have handled over the past twelve years have been in AU condition. This to our knowledge has not been previously offered at public auction. The consignor has consigned this and several other major dollar rarities in this sale from an old-time collection of Morgans. The design elements on this piece show uncommonly crisp definition and will be considered "full" by anyone's definition. The reverse untoned with superb cameo contrast, the Obverse is toned evenly in a wonderful golden patina, and also displays wonderful cameo contrast. The surfaces are exceptionally clean and the prooflike fields have a concave appearance (especially on the obverse) from die polishing, which in turn has imparted the mirrored sheen on both sides. A key coin for the Prooflike collector and one of only a handful ever to be located in PL or DMPL. Actually only 1 coin has ever graded DMPL, and I will note our coin most certainly has a DMPL Obverse. I wish you the best of Luck in obtaining this Ultra Rarity.

Just the most trivial marks show under a glass and the complexion is remarkably close to Gem preservation. Overall sharp and particularly frosty on the reverse.
The 1893-CC is the final Carson City Mint silver dollar. It is also a key date issue in the Morgan series, being one of the most challenging issues of its type to locate in high grades and with strong eye appeal. For starters, the mintage is limited to just 677,000 pieces, and survivors are scarce in an absolute sense. Additionally, many 1893-CC dollars are poorly struck in the centers, and most Mint State survivors are also heavily abraded. The present example is clearly superior, and it would serve as a highlight in an advanced collection of Morgan dollars or Carson City Mint coinage. Only 15 coins have ever been certified finer. I am including the ms65 from NGC that sold in 1/2021 for $51,600. Even though NGC graded that coins as GEM, I feel our coin is finer. I am also including an ms64+ PCGS that sold in 9/2019 for $30,000, again I like our coin more. Please use them to compare and formulate a bid that will be high enough to secure this superb coin for your collection.

Silver dollar production was markedly reduced at the Philadelphia Mint in 1892, with a reported mintage of just over 1 million pieces. Apparently, the Mint was only striking silver dollars on demand, rather than striving to produce the unneeded millions of coins mandated by the Sherman Silver Purchase Act in earlier years. The 1892 Morgan dollar is very rare in MS66 condition, and none have ever graded finer.

As on Maris 18-N and 19-M, the date is amateurishly engraved (as made), the 1 entered at an extreme angle to keep it from touching a dentil. The head of the horse was punched too high, and leans precariously to the left. On the reverse, E PLURIBUS is closely spaced, while UNUM is unduly wide. The reverse die was better made, however, since it lasted through pairings with the Maris 18, 20, and 21 obverses, while Maris 20-N marks the only appearance of the obverse die. I hope its obvious why this coin is aptly nicknamed “the Drunken Die Cutter”
Although in well circulated grades the Maris 20-N is merely scarce within the New Jersey series, it would take a Herculean effort to secure another AU example, provided such a coin even exists. Only 1 MS is known and I know of no other au.

Ultra Rare 1891 $1 Trteasury Note "Stanton Note" FR-352 Bruce-Roberts Grades vg, very good. Way out in the Wild, Wild West of the 19th century, folks liked carrying big Silver Dollars around in their pockets. But, back East, folks didn't. Their solution: Treasury Notes. When the Treasury Department purchased a dollar's worth of silver bullion, they gave the seller a $1 note that was redeemable at any time for silver or gold. It was literally a receipt. This satisfied the Easterners who could then carry the notes in their wallets. This 1891 $1 note features Lincoln's Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. It's one of the most intricately engraved notes, showing a red Treasury seal, serial numbers and three ornate patterns on the reverse. Compared to other types of notes, these were issued in small quantities (only as many as the silver the Treasury bought). And, because they were "as good as gold," they were a preferred means of exchange and circulated heavily. As a result, these Stanton Notes are very hard to find today. Edwin M Stanton is the bearded man on the left hand side of the bill. Edwin McMasters Stanton was an American lawyer and politician who served as Secretary of War under the Lincoln Administration during most of the American Civil War. Stanton's management helped organize the massive military resources of the North and guide the Union to victory

An outstanding coin with exceptional eye appeal. One of the very finest circulation strike examples known of this date. One is struck immediately by the prooflike reflectivity in the fields on both sides, more pronounced on the reverse, the. the result of die maintenance. Sharp die polish lines are seen in the fields. This texture is seen on other high-grade coins of this date and mint, most notably some examples of the famous 1848 CAL quarter eagles. The texture of the devices is satiny, making them stand out visually from the fields. Beautifully struck. A few scattered marks are noted, accounting for the grade not being as high as the overall eye appeal might suggest. When David Akers wrote his important studies on federal gold coins, published in 1980, he noted five appearances of coins called "Uncirculated," some of which could have been the same piece. He also wrote about the date, "Most known specimens are only VF or EF and strictly uncirculated examples are extremely rare." This summed the situation up perfectly, as a scanning of auction appearances easily confirms.What may be most remarkable about the 1848 in this grade is the list of collections that had far inferior examples, or none at all. The lead among these is the Eliasberg Collection, which contained only an "EF-40." The Garrett family, Virgil Brand, and the Norweb family also failed to acquire anything noteworthy for this date, illustrative of just how difficult it is to find. Harry W. Bass, Jr., the most aggressive student and collector of federal gold of our time, did find a lovely example graded MS-63 . I have included two other ms64 Examples, the first having sold in 2/20 and reazlized $66,000 and the other sold back in 10/14 and realized $64,625. What strikes me most about these two coins is the similarity to our coin. In fact the one that sold in 2020 could be a doppelganger for ours. I wish you good Luck in securing this awesome coin!

The New Orleans Mint opened in 1838 and produced its first half dollars, 20 proof examples dated 1838-O, in January of 1839. A further 178,976 coins dated 1839-O were delivered throughout this year, and this issue is the only collectible O-mint half dollar of the 1838-1839 Reeded Edge type. Breen asserts that the 1839-O was extensively hoarded by the public as the first business strike half dollar from the New Orleans Mint. If this is true, then the majority of these coins were retrieved from circulation because this issue is a significant rarity in Mint State. Bright and satiny, the present near-Gem is one of the finest certified examples available to today's specialists. Delicate champagne iridescence overlays both sides, and the striking definition is as close to full as one could expect for the issue.

Any offering of an 1800 large cent in or near Mint State is truly an important opportunity for a wide range of collectors. This splendid cent has subdued medium brown surfaces with traces of underlying lilac, faded from original red. Olive-brown color may be seen on the devices. While not flawless, the surfaces of this, one of the finest known examples are fully appealing. It is far and away the finest 1800 large cent we have ever brought to auction and we wish you good luck in obtaining this great example. I will note that in all publc auctions, in all uncirculated grades, a total of 7 auction appearances have occurred in the last 20 years. Of those, several are the same coin. In fact in 2005, only 1 mint state example was known. Today there are less than 10, half of which are ms61 and some likely used to be au58. I am including the ms62 example that sold in 6/14 and realized $19,388. Please note its subdued price was likelt due to its very dark color. Our coin is a pleasing medium to chocolate brown. Chase, the federal government issued the first paper money of the United States, the Demand Notes, in order to meet the expenses of the Civil War. He said, "I was compelled to use some expedients for payment of the Army & Navy, or see the defeat of all our efforts to save the integrity of the Republic." (The Salmon P. Chase Papers, Kent State University Press, 1889). The acts of July 7, 1861 and August 5, 1861, authorized an emission of $60,000,000 of notes; they were not legal tender and were not interest-bearing. The notes were printed in $5, $10, and $20 denominations from five Assistant Treasurer locations: New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Cincinnati, and St. Louis. Although the notes have the "on demand ... Promise to pay to the Bearer," the obligation does not specify payment in gold. However, Chase's circular sent to the Assistant Treasurers regarding the aforementioned acts stated:These notes are intended to furnish a current medium of payment, exchange, and remittance, being at all times convertible into coin at the option of the holder, at the place where made payable, and everywhere receivable for public dues. They must be always equivalent to gold, and often and for many purposes more convenient and valuable.But the Treasury was low on gold supplies, and Lieutenant-General Scott on September 8, 1861, announced that the current method of paying the troops "in coin" would be partially supplanted by the Demand Notes, which were "as good as gold at all banks and government offices throughout the United States." In addition to paying the troops, these notes were also used to pay the salaries of some government employees. As gold supplies further dwindled, Chase ordered the specie payments suspended, and on December 28, 1861, it was no longer possible for note-holders to receive gold on demand, making the notes unpopular with most of the public, but not with the importers.The Treasury needed to continue issuing notes, but without the promise of payment in gold or acceptance as the equivalent of gold. In 1862, the Legal Tender Notes were introduced. They quickly depreciated versus gold (in 1864, it would take more than $2.50 of those notes to purchase $1 in gold). That meant that Demand Notes, which were on par with gold, were much more valuable than the Legal Tender Notes, particularly to importers who used them for customs duties requiring payment in gold.Only $53,000 of the issued $60,000,000 (less than one percent of the total issued) in Demand Notes are still outstanding, with the majority redeemed or destroyed during the war.All $10 Demand Notes are much scarcer than their related $5 examples. The well-executed American Bank Note Company face plate features Frederick Girsch's engraving of Abraham Lincoln at the left. The eagle vignette, E Pluribus Unum, that originally appeared on Obsolete bank notes, was engraved by Toppan, Carpenter, and Company. Art is symbolized by the right end allegorical female. In rich green on the face are the guilloche at bottom center and the "10" counters flanking the eagle. The reverse is perfectly centered with full denticulation and the center is drawn slightly to 3:00 but still retains full denticulation. The coin looks better than the assigned grade. The Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890 and increased gold deposits at Carson City, as the Comstock Lode shed much of its last remaining resources, made the 1890 gold coinage from Carson City the fourth-highest in the facility's history, and third-highest when one includes the silver coinage.
The 1890-CC double eagle was struck to the extent of 91,209 pieces, plentiful for Carson City but meager in comparison to the vast outputs of the era in San Francisco and Philadelphia. Perhaps 300 examples of the 1890-CC twenty survive today in Mint State. The present MS63 coin is tied for 2nd finest known. Deep, even reddish patina covers each side of this piece, which displays bright, semiprooflike fields with a dab of lilac intermingled. Plentiful luster radiates throughout each side. The reverse die shows evidence of heavy lapping, as seen by the missing tailfeathers on the left side of the eagle. Among the finest survivors, both technically and aesthetically, of this historic issue. I have included another ms63 fro your comparison. It sold in 2/2013 and realized $41,125

This key date 1928 Peace dollar is an outstanding condition rarity from a low mintage issue. Lustrous softly frosted surfaces are essentially brilliant on the obverse and reverse. There are none of the significant abrasions that are usually present on Mint State examples, and most areas are pristine. Boldly struck and thoroughly appealing, this impressive premium Gem is sure to appeal to discerning bidders.
With the lowest mintage (360,649 pieces) in the circulation strike Peace dollar series, the 1928 is eagerly sought at all levels of preservation. Enough coins were saved, however, that locating a coin in MS-60 to 64 will not prove all that difficult under normal market conditions. In MS-65, however, the conditionally challenging nature of this issue comes to the fore. Premium Gems in MS-65+ and MS-66 are rare. This example is the single finest 1928 Peace dollars that we have ever offered, and would be perfect for a high end set.

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

1862 US Fractional Currency 10c First Issue fr-1242 Washington Scarcest Variety Grades Choice AU/BU Slider. Scarcest Varity of all the 10c first issue Fractional Currency. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.\

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960?s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn?t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

***Auction Highlight*** 1935-d TOP POP! Walking Liberty Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67 By SEGS. 0 The 1935-D is a stopper for the collector assembling a set of fully struck Walkers. They just don't exist. At least we have never seen one. However, this piece is as close as we can remember to being fully struck. There is one break in the skirt lines, the thumb-forefinger separation is complete, and 80% of the detail on Liberty's head is present. That in itself makes this a special 1935-D. Additionally, the surfaces are brilliant and highly lustrous and do not show any mentionable abrasions on either side. Exceptional quality for the advanced collector of Walkers. Afterward, no more pieces were coined for the remainder of the decade.The typical 1915 is in a low-Mint State grade, averaging MS61.7.The collector who seeks a lower-level Mint State example of the 1915 double eagle will have no problem finding an acceptable representative with only a little searching. However, the collector who seeks a Choice MS64 example will need patience, and the seeker of a Gem MS65 will require considerable perseveranceIn A Handbook of 20th-Century United States Gold Coins 1907-1933, David Akers comments: "From an overall 'eye appeal' standpoint, the 1915 is an easy winner over the other Philadelphia Mint issues from 1908 With Motto to 1915; only the 1912 even comes close." The coin at hand is one of those appealing pieces with mostly greenish-gold on the obverse and glints of reddish-gold around a few of the sun's rays. Similar coloration and similarly stunning eye appeal are on display on the reverse, with a few tiny abrasions limited mostly to the sun at the bottom. The strike is close to full, despite minor softness on the sandal and a few of the oak leaves. The surfaces have no marks worthy of individual note. I have included an ms65 that sold in 4/18 for $33,600 and an ms65+ that sold in 1/12 for $48,875.

***Auction Highlight*** 1904-s Morgan Dollar $1 Graded ms67+ By SEGS. SINGLE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLE! The 1904-S Morgan, with a mintage of 2.304 million pieces, apparently saw a large number melted. David Bowers, in his Buyer's Guide to Silver Dollars of the United States, estimates that 2 million or so coins succumbed to later-day melts. Despite this, a fair number of specimens are available in the in the low to mid Mint State levels, due to modest Treasury releases in the 1930s and 1940s, along with one or more bags that came though Los Angeles Banks in the 1950s (Bowers, Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States). Bowers finds no accounts of any being in the 1962-1964 Treasury release, and apparently none was in the Redfield estate.
The certified population decreases to about 140 or so 1904-S dollars at the Gem level of preservation. and fewer than 15 Premium Gems, a mere three MS67s, and just one finer, the coin at hand. We can thus readily see that the Superb Gem offering in the present lot is an important condition rarity.
Whispers of golden-tan patination make occasional appearances on both sides of this lovely piece, each of which is awash in potent luster. An above average strike leaves strong definition on the design features, including at least partial detail in the usually weak centers. Close examination reveals no marks of consequence. A SUPERB coin, worthy of the finest collection.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT – Up for Auction is one of the scarcest dates in the entire Liberty $20 series, the 1871-cc. Winter 1-A, the only known dies. The 1871-CC is a well known rarity among CC-Mint Twenties, being second only to the undisputed key to the series of Carson City Double Eagles, the 1870-CC. Only 17,387 pieces were struck, but this only partially explains the issue's rarity, as heavy circulation in the West took a heavy toll on both the quality and quantity of survivors. While abrasions on this uncommonly high grade representative are fairly numerous, few merit individual attention, The mark on the neck and one above the date, but neither is distracting or excessive. This issue is almost always found heavily circulated and bagmarked. While numerous ticks, nicks, and digs are softened by 10 points of wear, the overall impression of this coin is smooth and appealing. The reason for the details grade is not apparent, as there are zero hairlines or any overt signs of cleaning or improper handling. I could easily see this terrific coin in a straight grade holder. Mint luster remains at the margins and glows among the devices, especially on the reverse. I am including three examples for your comparison. Two are details coins themselves, both au50 and two straight grade xf45 that I think fairly represents the issue. I think this coin should command no less than $45,000 at this auction. Yet, it is far and away the scarcest Carson City issue, and it is arguably more widely sought than the 1893-S due to the subset of collectors seeking to assemble only the Carson City Mint collection; For those collectors, the 1889-CC is the capstone of the set. Examples of this issue are occasionally seen in Mint State, although eye appeal varies widely. Up for Auction is One of The Civil War’s Foremost Rarities, The “Encased Postage” coin. While not Technically a Coin, a Note or a Stamp, John Gault’s Encased Postage was king of currency For a Brief Year in 1862. When The Civil war Broke out in 1861, all of the “Hard Currency” quickly Dissapeared. But people still needed to purchase a 3¢ loaf of bread, a 1¢ newspaper, a 5¢ quart of milk and countless other goods that required coins. And vendors had to make change when an item’s price was less than a nickel, a dime or a quarter. In some cities, businesses gave customers I.O.Us, private companies created “Civil War tokens” and paper money was cut into several pieces to represent a fraction of a dollar. Clever remedies for sure, but none that were widely used or accepted. All of this radically changed on July 17, 1862, when Congress decided to address the coinage shortage and passed a law that allowed postage stamps to satisfy debts of less than $5. People began to carry stamps in their purses and pockets and used them repeatedly for daily purchases. Vendors gladly accepted the stamps as payment. But all of this hand-to-hand usage quickly resulted in damaged stamps with denominations sometimes unrecognizable. The local post offices would not exchange damaged stamps for new ones, so a remedy was needed. John Gault, a New York entrepreneur, decided he had the best solution. On August 12, 1862, Gault obtained a patent for a “postage stamp case”, or as he named the item in a newspaper advertisement, the “New Metallic Currency. Gault didn’t sell the encased stamps to the public. Instead, he sold them to stores and businesses that needed “coinage” to make change for customers’ purchases. Gault’s profit came from the 20% markup over the face value of the stamp. To increase his potential profit, Gault’s second idea was to inscribe advertising on the back of the encased stamp. He would charge companies who purchased the metallic currency an additional 2¢ for each item. Encased stamps were widely accepted in the general commerce realm until later in 1862 when the government issued “fractional currency”. This legitimate, government-sanctioned currency quickly eliminated the coin shortage. Having no other value than the stamp, people tore apart the encasements of their metallic currency to remove the stamp to use as postage. Thus the scarcity of the 1862 encased stamps today. HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR – Up for Auction is a Mint State Sheldon 10 Flowing Hair Wreath Vine and Bars Cent. The S-10 Wreath cent is an elusive variety in higher grades. This 1793 Wreath cent offers superior quality and eye appeal for this design from the first year of regular issue U.S. Mint coinage. Boldly to sharply defined from a well executed strike.
This example has full detail and no wear. It has some surface issues which do bring it to the details designation, but it is one of only 2 known S-10 in Mint State! While Chain cents often attract the most interest for their position as the first made, there is not a collector alive who would assert that Chain cents are more beautiful than their Wreath reverse counterparts. Breen boldly suggested that the elegance of the Wreath cents "was Director David Rittenhouse's answer to the newspaper criticisms" lodged against the Chain cent. Though no evidence exists to support this, the fact remains that the Wreaths represented a substantial step up in both design artistry and engraving execution. The details of this fine style design are lost with even light wear, making high grade Wreath cents such as this the crown princes of the early copper world. In any numismatic season a 1793 Wreath cent is an object of desire, and even coins that are worn nearly smooth command interest and attention. The 2000 reference Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of Early United States Cents: 1793-1814 states that approximately 4% of the mintage of 63,353 coins for the 1793 Wreath cent is extant, or 2,400 to 2,800 in all grades. About Uncirculated and Mint State survivors exist in a slightly greater percentage of the mintage than for later years, perhaps due to interest shown in these early U.S. Mint products by contemporary collectors in England, where numismatics was firmly established by the 1790s. Advanced numismatists will be sure to take note of this highlight among the early coppers in the auction.

Despite the low rarity rating (R.1), the finest confirmed O-102a reported in Stephen Herrman's roster is MS63, one grade below this coin! A pair of die cracks in the date area are the primary pick-up points for the late die state, where a short crack at the base of the date runs parallel to a longer crack from the top of 1 across Liberty's drapery folds to star 1. On the reverse, enigmatic pointed segments are visible (scroll marks, also seen on O-110), and the U in UNITED shows recutting at the base. This is an exceptional example with lovely light toning in pastel hues throughout both sides. The strike is sharp except at the eagle's left wing shoulder. A superb and TOP POP coin!

The current finest known is an ms62, our wonderful coin is an ms63 Details, with light hairlines Attractive yellow-gold patina covers both sides of this handsome, top-of-the-pop quarter eagle. The luster is full and satiny, and the strike is bold apart from isolated softness in and around the centers, typical of 1859-D quarter eagles. Smooth, attractive, and sure to sell for a premium bid.After a one year hiatus, the Dahlonega Mint returned to quarter eagle production in 1859 with a delivery of 2,244 coins. This is the final Dahlonega Mint quarter eagle, and it is a median rarity in its series from both absolute and high grade standpoints. One of the great rarities among Prooflike and Deep Mirror Prooflike Morgan dollars, the 1895-O is scarce-to-rare in any regard when in Uncirculated condition. A logical reduction in silver dollar mintages followed the government's release from the necessity of purchasing millions of dollars worth of silver bullion each month. Just 450,000 pieces were struck at the old Southern Mint, where the 1895-O is the premier O-mint issue in the Morgan series.

Glorious deep orange surfaces are fully lustrous with a billowy satin to softly frosted texture from the dies. Sharply struck, carefully preserved, and a find for the advanced Indian cent enthusiast. One of the more challenging early date bronze Indian cents to locate in high grades, the 1869 is more elusive than the 1866, 1867 and 1868. This is an exceptional survivor from a mintage of 6,420,000 circulation strikes.
Once believed to be an 1869/8 overdate, the variety now cataloged as Snow-3 is one of the most pronounced repunched dates in the Indian cent series. The obverse proved to be a workhorse die paired with at least eight different reverses. 1922 Large Size $10 Gold Certificate Fr-1173 Speelman/White Grades vf+. It is hard to believe that large size ten dollar gold certificates were only issued in 1907 and 1922. The United States first printed gold certificates in the early 1860s. For some reason they never printed the ten dollar denomination until 1907. 1922 was the last year of the large size gold Certificate Currnecy. In 1928 paper money was changed to the size we are accustomed to seeing today. The portrait of Alexander Hamilton was used instead of the virtually unknown Michael Hillegas. Hillegas was the first treasurer of The United States. Perhaps if Hillegas had died in a duel then he would be better remembered today. All 1922 $10 gold certificates were signed by Speelman and White. Interestingly enough, there is a small variety for the series. Some notes have smaller serial numbers than the standard numbers. The small serial number notes do command a slight premium, especially in higher grades.

Numerous coins, medals, and tokens bear his portrait, much to his chagrin. The last thing Washington wanted was to be treated like a king, so when the U.S. government proposed putting his portrait on an official coin, he balked. What he could not prevent were the numerous private issues struck by people who had little concern for his wishes or who were more concerned with making money by using his image.
The 1791 Washington Small Eagle Cent is one such coin. Themotif was clearly American, though the heraldic eagle on the reverse has only eight stars and the arrows and the olive branch are in the wrong talons.

All series of 1902 five dollar bills have a picture of Ben Harrison on the Left hand side of the bill. 23rd president of the United States from 1889 to 1893. He was a grandson of the ninth president, William Henry Harrison, and a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison V, a founding father who signed the United States Declaration of Independence Each bill has a large blue number printed on the front of the bill twice. If the back of your blue seal has the years 1902 and 1908 written on it, then you have what is known as a 1902 date back. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960?s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn?t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

We have weighed the roll and can assure you that it is 20 Silver Dollars, that all 20 are 1921-p and that it is not an uncirculated roll as the weight comes in slightly under the 534.60 grams that a fully uncirculated roll would weigh. Now, Mints around the world are celebrating the 50th anniversary of that first lunar visit, and Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) is contributing to the festivities through their partnership with astronaut Charlie Duke. The grading company created a unique label that features an image of him standing on the surface of the moon. Duke signs these labels by hand, providing collectors with a unique and intimate connection to one of the twelve men to have walked on the moon. NGC is using these labels for coins that have been issued to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
