Deke Slayton Honorary Mayor Certificate, Hometown

A 13"x 20" certificate dated December 23, 1959 appointing Deke Slayton as Honorary Mayor of Sparta, Monroe County, which is in Wisconsin and where Slayton was born. This was given to Slayton shortly after his selection in the Original 7 group of Mercury astronauts. Signed by the Mayor at the time and City Clerk. There is water damage on the certificate from the infamous 1979 flood in Slayton's Texas home. Decent condition only, but interesting. ESTIMATED VALUE: $75-$100

Two early NASA Space Task Group Memorandums from Langley. The first, dated August 10, 1959, contains 16 pages of the Space Task Group organization, complete with member lists and organization charts. The second booklet, dated February 9, 1959, contains 37 pages and is entitled, "Procurement of Manned Satellite Capsule (Project Mercury)" and deals with a detailed cost anaylsis of the Mercury Program. It is dated March 9, 1948 and is signed by the Governor of Minnesota at the time, Luther Youngdahl. Virgil Grissom Signed Vintage NASA Glossy

A vintage 8"x 10" NASA numbered B&W glossy of Gus Grissom in a business suit, and signed at the top by Grissom using what looks like a ballpoint pen. Early signature type "Virgil I. Grissom". There are numerous dings in the photo as well as a diagonal printing flaw in the form of a crease (the photo is not really creased but looks like it) running from the bottom left corner to the center. One small ding runs diagonally through the signature. Nothing terribly major however and the photo is still in overall good shape. ESTIMATED VALUE: $600-$750

Liberty Bell 7 Flown Film in Lucite

An 8" long x 3" tall lucite bearing a small strip of film from the observation camera aboard Gus Grissom's MR-4 Liberty Bell 7 spacecraft. The film was flown in space, obviously, plus submerged for almost 40 years deep in the ocean after the spacecraft sank. Excellent condition. Complete with its presentation box from the Kansas Cosmosphere. ESTIMATED VALUE: $150-$200

Alan Shepard's MR-3 US Senate Resolution

A 10"x 15" US Senate Resolution commending Alan Shepard for his Mercury Freedom 7 flight on May 5, 1961. This resolution was part of the collection of Mercury astronaut Deke Slayton, and was either given to him by Shepard, or all 7 Mercury astronauts received one. There is some water damage at the bottom of the paper due to the infamous 1979 flood in Slayton's home in Texas. Rare. ESTIMATED VALUE: $75-$100

1961 Jacket Worn By Launch Crew, 2 Patches

A vintage white jacket personally given to the launch crew at Blockhouse 34 in 1961 by Kurt Debus, the Director of KSC. The jacket bears two very early versions of the NASA meatball patch - the one on the front is 3" diameter and the larger one on the back is 6" diameter. Only 12-15 of the jackets were made for the crew, which were called "Dr. Debus' Pets". This particular launch crew worked in the blockhouses of several Launch Complexes including LC-26, 34, 37, 39 and 56. The jacket is still in wonderful condition and has be wrapped in protective plastic for the last 40 years. A great item from the early launches and two exceptional early patches. This jacket comes with a note signed by the consigner explaining the origins of this jacket that was given to him at the time. ESTIMATED VALUE: $300-$400

The booklet has a horizontal fold in the middle from storage, but otherwise is in excellent condition as well as the signatures. ESTIMATED VALUE: $2000-$2500

Sections include Mission, Major Structural Assemblies, Cabin Arrangement, Sequence System, Electrical Power System, Environmental Control System, Cooling System, Guidance and Control System, Communications System, Instrumentation and Recording System, Pyrotechnics and Retrograde Rocket and Landing System. Worn a bit from use in the Gemini Mission Simulator (which is written at the top of the front cover), but still complete and in good shape. Uncommon. ESTIMATED VALUE: $300-$400

Project Gemini Spacecraft Test Procedures Manual

A vintage Project Gemini Spacecraft Prelaunch Test Procedure contained in a vintage 3-ring binder. This was prepared by McDonnell for their Florida Operations and is dated 18 March 1965. The procedure is entitled, "Radar Electrical Boresight Measurement and Adjustment Procedures", and consists of about 175 pages of procedures and data entry sheets. Excellent condition considering its age. Uncommon. ESTIMATED VALUE: $150-$200

Gemini Photos - Spacecraft Parts and Equipment

A vintage notebook containing maybe 100-150 original glossy photographs of Gemini service and testing equipment and Gemini spacecraft parts. Many of the photographs have a McDonnell stamp on the back, while many others have subcontractors stamps such as AiResearch. Included as well is a piece of spacecraft insulation material (looks like asbestos) and some reflective foil used on the spacecraft. There are actually chapters to arrange the photos and those chapters include Suit Package, Egress Kit, Secondary O2, Cryogenics, Heat Exchangers, CO2 Absorber, Coolant Loops, Electrical and others. Used condition but still good shape. Some of these photos may never be seen again, since they were certainly not mass-produced. A great Gemini spacecraft resource. ESTIMATED VALUE: $200-$250

Gemini Spacecraft Attitude Control Panel

A 5½"x 6½" Attitude Control lightweight metal panel removed from the Gemini Mission Simulator, presumedly due to a minor switch nomenclature change for a later mission. The simulator used the exact same panels as did the actual spacecraft. The position of this panel in the spacecraft is shown in color on a Gemini 12 controls layout drawing. Heavily used in training by all the early Gemini astronauts, it does show some wear from that fact. Gemini artifacts such as this are quite rare. ESTIMATED VALUE: $750-$1000

Gemini Maneuver Thrusters Control Panel

A 7½"x 1-3/4" Maneuver Thrusters lightweight metal overhead panel removed from the Gemini Mission Simulator presumedly due to minor changes for the later missions. The simulator used the exact same panels as did the actual spacecraft. The position of this panel in the spacecraft is shown in color on the Gemini controls layout drawing. Flown Piece of Gemini 2 Heatshield

A small 1"x 1½" pice of heatshield flown on the unmanned Gemini 2 suborbital mission in 1965. This comes from the former collection of Tony Broadway, and he has written inside the case "Part of heat shield from Gemini II" and "Two Space Voyages: 1-January 19, 1965 and 2-November 3, 1966". The first date is the launch date of Gemini 2, and the second, from information I have received, is the date the spacecraft was launched a second time. Handwritten on-the-spot provenance was common in those days. ESTIMATED VALUE: $50-$75

A 3"x 5" GTA-6 Agena Commands card that was to be used by Gemini Pilot Major Thomas P. Stafford during his Gemini 6 mission. However, the Agena failed and Gemini 6 was rescheduled to rendezvous with the Gemini 7 spacecraft. The card contains Agena command codes for Tracking, Approach Lites, Guidance and Propulsion. The card is laminated, but the lamination has released from the card, but is still sealed along the edges. A velcro strip is on the back for attaching to the spacecraft panels for easy reference. Four heavy 3-1/4"x 8" Gemini 10 and 11 Standup EVA Preparation cards attached together by a metal ring and used for EVA training in the Gemini Mission Simulator at the Cape. These cards were first used by John Young for Gemini 10, and then by Pete Conrad for Gemini 11 and were used for Preliminary EVA Preparation, Final Preparation, Egress and Ingress. When Conrad took over as Commander in the simulator after Young, he crossed out Young's name on the card and added his own. Heavily annotated on the cards by both Young and Conrad. There is a velcro strip on the back of each for conveniently sticking them to a spacecraft panel. Used condition obviously, but still totally intact. Extremely rare for sure. A bit faded or discolored along the edges I suppose from handling over the years, but it has no bends, creases or tears. Used in training for the Gemini astronauts. Extremely uncommon. It consists of approximately 200 pages loaded with flow charts, drawings, illustrations and information. Although the topics flow seamlessly, some sections are missing (pages 73 to 204), but since this is an early version, those sections may not have been included as of yet, or were in the writing stage. Additionally, the binder is nearly full and an additional 125 pages may well have overflowed it. Used condition with no bends, creases or stains. I have provided a photo showing an Apollo 12 astronaut on the lunar surface near the cylindrical case where these plastic bags were stored for easy access - the aluminum 'flags' can be seen sticking out the slot. On the left are the bags that appear later in the auction. This bag was used in training, usually at the end of a long scoop (see picture provided) and has an aluminum rim to facilitate easy opening and closing, and are numbered for later determination of when and where a sample was scooped. Command Module Fire Extinguisher

A heavy metal fire extinguisher of the exact kind stored in the Apollo Command Modules for every mission. This extinguisher was used in the Command Module Simulator in the Flight Crew Training Building. It is all metal heavy construction and stands 9" tall and is 5" diameter at the base and weighs almost 4 pounds. The nozzle can be aimed into the cabin or attached to a port to spray behind the panels. Printed on the extinguisher is "Inert Unit - For Test Purposes - Do Not Charge" and then "Non-Flight Hardware RME-280-0010-0001". Still in great shape with its handle break wire still attached. "In the Beginning", a 1994 Apollo 11 25th anniversary Artist Proof color print from Alan Bean containing 20 pencil signatures of the Apollo astronauts representing at least one crewman for each Apollo flight. There were 1000 regular issue prints, but only 150 Artist Proofs and this one is number 146 of 150. The image is 15"x 17" and the print is 27"x 34" overall. Signing are Schirra and Cunningham (Apollo 7), Borman (Apollo 8), McDivitt and Schweickart (Apollo 9), Stafford (Apollo 10), Aldrin and Collins (Apollo 11), Conrad, Bean and Gordon (Apollo 12), Lovell and Haise (Apollo 13), Shepard, Roosa and Mitchell (Apollo 14), Scott and Worden (Apollo 15), Duke (Apollo 16) and Schmitt (Apollo 17). Saturn V S-IVB Fueling Arm Status Panel – Firing

This indicator panel displayed the status of fueling operations for the S-IVB stage of the Saturn V moon rocket. It is from one of the Firing Rooms at the Launch Control Center at Kennedy Space Center. It was removed when the Firing Room was taken out of service following the last Apollo mission. The restorer has added a series of switches that, if thrown in sequence, will make the status lights change as they would during a Saturn V launch operation. The switches are appropriately labeled. Descriptive information about the launch sequence is readily available through online resources. The panel includes all the original wiring and 28-Volt indicator lamps. It has been cleaned and restored to working condition by the addition of new 6-Volt lamps in the empty sockets inside the panel and with clip-on wiring. It can be returned to its original condition simply by removing the alligator clip leads and removing it from the display box in which it is mounted. The panel is powered by a 6-Volt transformer that can be plugged into a standard 120-Volt outlet. This is a unique – and working – artifact from launch operations at KSC! Anyone who ever wished they were at the controls during an Apollo launch will appreciate this interactive piece of space history. ESTIMATED VALUE: $400-$500

This is Volume II, and Volume I contained only Countdown Demonstration Test information. This manual contains the launch countdown from basically T-1 day to liftoff. Sections include Test Description, TV Camera Locations, Engine Cutoff and Emergency Operations, Complex 37 Communication, Launch Countdown First Day, Launch Countdown Through Launch, and more. SA-9 was launched February 16, 1965 with objectives including launch vehicle systems performance, jettisoning of the launch escape system and separation of the boilerplate spacecraft.. A bit annotated inside by the original owner who was an SA-9 countdown engineer and was working in the blockhouse during the launch. A little spotted with age on the borders of the cover, but overall nice condition with no cover bends or creases, and it is complete. Uncommon item of an early Saturn test. An original 8"x 10" color NASA numbered glossy of Apollo 1 astronaut Roger Chaffee in a business suit and signed by him with a full signature. Chaffee died in the Apollo 1 fire in January 1967. There are scotch tape stains on the back of the photo that do not affect the front. Also, the photo has bend cracks on the left side, one on the top edge and on the four corners, and a couple small dings in the center. None of these affect the signature which is virtually clear. Sealed Pack of 15 Original Apollo 1 Crew Patches

A group of 15 original and vintage Apollo 1 crew patches of the rare type worn by the Apollo 1 astronauts on their spacesuits. These patches are sealed in heavy plastic wrap direct from the manufacturer, Stylized Emblem Co. in California, and each patch bears a sticker to that affect on its reverse (I can see the sticker on the bottom patch). Inside the plastic on the bottom side of the patch block is a packing slip which gives the following information: Item Description - Apollo Flight Crew Emblem, Part No.- ACS-204 (AS-204 was Apollo 1), Date - Sept. 19, 1966 (4 months before the fire), Quantity - 15, and Date of Manufacture - Aug, 1966. This package of original crew patches was part of the collection of former Mercury astronaut Deke Slayton who was, at the time, head of the astronauts. Slayton's wife Bobbie, has made out 15 certificates stating from whose collection these patches came, just in case the pack is ever opened. These certificates are included in the auction. Actual Apollo 1 crew patches such as there are extremely rare. According to the excellent website edgeofdarkness.com, approximately 8 public sales of these patches have been made in the last 3 years, with no doubt a couple of them being resold during that period as part of the 8 sales, making the total number of patches available at maybe 5 or 6 pieces. The prices realized for those 8 sales range from $780 to $1792 for an average of $1141. The minimum bid for this sealed pack of 15 patches is $3900, which works out to only $260 per patch which is only one-third the lowest sale price amount. Excellent condition. Included are LMP IVT to LM, Housekeeping, Drogue and Probe, Rate Gyro Ck, RCS Press, Ldg Gear Deploy, Config G&N, LM Closeout and many more. Some pencil numbers and annotations appear inside. An extremely rare checklist and in used, but still nice, condition. A nice piece of early Apollo history. A beautiful desk display bearing three separate spacecraft lucites each bearing a chunk of flown heat shield material from the respective flight. There is a Mercury spacecraft lucite containing flown heat shield from Gordon Cooper's MA-9 Faith 7 Mercury mission, a Gemini spacecraft lucite containing flown heatshield from the Gemini 8 mission, and an Apollo Command Module lucite containing flown heatshield from the Apollo 11 mission. All three lucites are securely attached to a highly polished wooden base. The display measures 14" long, 6" wide and 5" high at its highest point. An engraved plaque is attached describing each spacecraft and mission, along with the astronauts who flew them. Excellent condition. The only thing I can see wrong with this item is three instances of bad first name spelling on the plaque. This lucite display was hand-made by a talented machinist, Norm Pavy, at the McDonnell plant in St. Louis, and while other single pieces of his work exist for other missions, this is the only one of this type I have ever seen or heard of. Rare for sure, as are all his lucite models. ESTIMATED VALUE: $4000-$5000

An Apollo 11 color Earth Orbit Chart measuring 9"x 20" that shows the complete earth's surface on the front and the back. The chart is not paper, but heavy stock board-like that is difficult to bend or crease. Wrapped around this board is a semi-transparent film imprinted with 9 Earth orbit tracks that could be used by the Apollo 11 spacecraft. The film can be rotated around the board until the correct orbit track can be followed from the launch angle. It is a Revision A and is dated July 9, 1969. Excellent condition and rare. An original 4"x 7" LMS-ISLGC Reference Information booklet for the Apollo 12 Lunar Module computer program Luminary 116. Luminary was the name given by MIT to the LM-specific software which ran on the Apollo Guidance Computer (AGC), and 116 is its version number. The booklet is dated August 18, 1969 and contains 34 pages of Star Codes, Verbs and Noun Codes, Alarm Codes, and other LM computer information. This is not a commercially available booklet, but was made by GE specifically for use in the Lunar Module Simulator. In fact, LMS-ISLGC stands for "Lunar Module Simulator - Interpretively Simulated Lunar Module Guidance Computer". A bit faded with age and there is a front cover bottom right corner crease, but still in overall nice condition. Rare for sure. ESTIMATED VALUE: $75-$100

An 8"x 21" flexible plastic Apollo 12 Ascent Monitoring Chart for Landing Site 7 (the actual landing site) for a November 14, 1969 launch. The chart shows the Apollo 12 landing site and the path the Lunar Module will take across the lunar surface after liftoff, along with the minutes of flight elapsed. This was a copy of the Monitoring Chart used for training in the LMS (Lunar Module Simulator), and this fact is written on the legend and on the back of the chart "LMS 28A SIM". No doubt used by Conrad and Bean during training. It will come rolled, and when unrolled, it is a bit wavy, but with no bends, creases or tears. Uncommon. ESTIMATED VALUE: $250-$300

The maps are montages of the lunar surface showing landmarks and craters along with views of the landing sites. One of the maps is an oblique of the landing site. Foldouts show the descent path of the Apollo 12 Lunar Module to the lunar surface (Landing Site 7). This booklet was for use in crew training and this was a copy kept for the crew in their Crew Quarters for after hours reference. The horizontal stains on the cover are from the disintigration of a rubber band during 40 years of storage. Complete with its front and back covers, and all the maps are contained with three metal rings. Excellent condition overall. Not a commercial item, but used specifically for lunar mission crew training. Rare. Cue cards were taken aboard during the missions, but this one was used in training no doubt by Fred Haise or his backup, Charlie Duke. Rare Apollo 13 Lunar Module TD+2 Star Chart

An 8-3/4" diameter Apollo 13 TD+2 Lunar Module star chart consisting of a black star disc below and a semi-transparent rotating disc above. The rings on the outer disc signify what stars would be seen through the Optical Telescope at certain times during the stay on the moon. Star charts like this were used on every lunar landing mission to orient the LM just prior to liftoff. The star chart is dated for a launch date of 11 April 1970 (Apollo 13), and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface within 2 hours after landing (TD+2 means Touchdown + 2 Hours). Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. This star chart was used in the Lunar Module Simulator and was no doubt handled by Lovell and Haise during their training. A very uncommon Apollo Postretrieval Procedures manual for Apollo 13 and the NASA Recovery Team. Published by the North American Rockwell Space Division in December 1969, it consists of 336 pages postretrieval spacecraft systems schematics and spaces for entry of all data from the spacecraft, including condition, instrument readings and post-flight settings. A total and complete inspection manual for the spacecraft. I have never seen one of these before, and since this manual is for a specific and specilized operation, I can imagine that there were only a handful of these ever printed, and are very probably rare. A vintage 2-ringed 6"x 8" Apollo 14 LM Contingency Checklist, LM-8, book dated January 12, 1971 inside (the latest change date) and containing 27 tabbed sections of at least 100 pages of LM contingency checklists and procedures on heavy stock paper. Some of the tabbed sections are Docked DPS Burn, Docked RCS Burn, 30-Minute Activation, Staged and Unstaged Power Down, Gimbal Trim Chart, Attitude Control Matrix, etc., and a Special Procedures and an Emergency section in case of system failures. This book was used by the Apollo 14 crew during training for the mission, and was the designated copy left in the crew quarters for after hours reference. This book seems to be a response to the Apollo 13 accident where the Lunar Module became a lifeboat, and this details in set procedures what to do in case something similar to that occurs again. Rare Apollo 14 Lunar Module Star Chart

An 8-3/4" diameter Apollo 14 TD+2 Lunar Module star chart consisting of a black star disc below and a semi-transparent rotating disc above. The rings on the outer disc signify what stars would be seen through the Optical Telescope at certain times during the stay on the moon. Star charts like this were used on every lunar landing mission to orient the LM just prior to liftoff. The star chart is dated September 22, 1970 for a launch date of January 31, 1971 (Apollo 14), and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface within 2 hours after landing (TD+2 means Touchdown + 2 Hours). Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. This star chart was used in the Lunar Module Simulator and was no doubt handled by Shepard and Mitchell during their training. Some have security annotations on them, such as how many of that particular type pass was to be printed, and many have scotch tape on their edges from placement into a security manual. Since Al Worden was the Apollo 15 Command Module Pilot, this manual was certainly used by him during training. It consists of six tabbed sections including P30 Maneuver, P37 Block Data, Earth Orbit Block Data, P27 Update, P24 Landmark Tracking and Flight Plan Update. Worden's annotations appear near the front of the manual and in the back. Extremely uncommon and in used, but still nice, condition. A nice piece of Apollo history. Sections include, Sequential Events, Electrical, Environmental Control, Fuel Cells, Communications, Instrumentation, G&C, Propulsion, Reaction Control, Lunar Orbit Experiments, etc. It looks to be complete and is still wrapped in the string used for storage. Apollo 15 Lunar Traverse Bearing Guide

A 7"x 10½" Apollo 15 lunar surface bearing determination guide for use on the lunar surface. It consists of a heavy 8" diameter dial mounted on a thick, heavy card, and comes with a built-in flip up aim guide and a leveling bubble. This device was used in training only and the bubble attachment is only a mockup. Since on the lunar surface it is difficult to determine direction and distances accurately with the naked eye, this device was used to plan a traverse away from the Lunar Module and to safely return, and it is equipped with lunar shadow data as well. It is dated 6-18-71 and the dial can be rotated to the exact positions of landmarks such as Mount Hadley and Bennett Hill. There used to be a wide velcro strip on the back of the card for use in securing this to the lunar rover or maybe to a backpack. Used no doubt by Scott and Irwin in training, and due to the heaviness of the card stock, it remains in good condition. An extremely rare piece of lunar equipment. ESTIMATED VALUE: $200-$300

Richard Gordon's Apollo 15 Lunar Orbit Chart

A vintage Apollo 15 circular Orbit Monitor Chart that belonged to backup Commander Richard Gordon during training for the mission - Gordon's name has been attached to the map's legend. The lunar chart measures 10½"x 144" (12 feet long) and is circular in nature, meaning the two ends have been taped together to make one, long continuos chart. The chart shows the Apollo 15 landing site in the Hadley region and Hadley Rille, as well as scores of craters and landmarks. The map is a first edition dated May 3, 1971, for a July 26 launch. Excellent condition and quite uncommon. ESTIMATED VALUE: $300-$400

Apollo 15 Lunar Orbit Star Chart

An 8"x 15" Apollo 15 flexible plastic Lunar Orbit Star Chart used for assistance in lunar orbit guidance and navigation in the Command Module. The chart shows the sun and planets in color to differentiate them from the background, and important navigational stars are numbered, highlighted and oversized. The track of the Apollo 15 CSM across the star field is also show in color. The lunar star chart reads at the bottom "LM Lunar Orbit Star Chart, July 26, 1971 Launch" which was the launch date of Apollo 15. Also represented on the chart are the 3 stars named by Gus Grissom after the Apollo 1 crew, Navi (Ivan backwards, Gus' middle name), Regor (Roger backwards, for Chaffee) and Dnoces (Second backward, for Ed White the Second). This Lunar Orbit Star Chart was used in training by the crew and is marked on the back QTRS 30A, meaning it was used in the Crew Quarters for after hours study. There is a bend in the middle from storage, but it is not a crease and it very nearly disappears when it is flattened out. Some fading on the edges due to many fingerprints over the years, but no creases, rips or tears. Very uncommon for any mission. ESTIMATED VALUE: $400-$500

An original and vintage 8½"x 10½" Apollo 15 Lunar Module Lunar Surface Maps book consisting of 27 landing site and lunar terrain maps and 16 EVA traverse maps (43 total). All the maps in this book are made of a flexible plastic material. The maps are montages of the lunar surface showing landmarks and craters around the Hadley region along with a couple maps views of the landing site. One of the maps is an oblique of the landing site. The traverse maps show detailed paths and planned stops for EVA-I, II and III. This book was once owned and used by Apollo 15 LMP Jim Irwin during training - his name appears at the top right of the front cover. This booklet was for use in crew training. The front and back covers have experienced a bit of fading with age, but the plastic maps are all in excellent condition. Some light red-marker annotations on one of the traverse maps. Complete with its front and back covers, and all the maps are contained with three metal rings. Not a commercial item, but used specifically for lunar mission crew training. Very rare and complete. It contains a smaller attached 4½" rotating disc to display the necessary information for the present conditions. Two-sided. This slide rule was used in the Lunar Module Simulator no doubt by Jim Irwin, the Apollo 15 Lunar Module Pilot, and is marked on the back "LMS-2". Excellent condition and rare. Young & Duke's Lunar Training Sample Collection Bag

A 16"x 8"x 6" Sample Collection Bag used by John Young and Charlie Duke for training for their Apollo 16 lunar EVA. This is an exact type of moon rock collection bag used on the lunar surface, where it could either be attached to an astronaut's PLSS backpack or to the Lunar Rover. The bag has a hinged, reinforced lid and a slit for easy access. Two metal brackets on the side at the top are for attaching to the backpack or rover. Photos have been provided showing the bag in use during training and on the lunar surface, and additional photos and views will be available once the auction is moved to Proxibid. The lid handle on this bag has come loose at one attachment, and the bag is a bit soiled from use in training, but it is still complete and intact. This item comes with a letter from the consigner, a Flight Crew Training engineer, stating that it was used for Apollo 16 lunar EVA training. Very rare example of lunar surface equipment. The Timeline Books were the books most heavily used during training by all the Apollo Lunar Module Pilots. This one was no doubt of the type used by Charlie Duke in the Simulator, and in fact, this is the LMS copy (Lunar Module Simulator). These were not commercially available, but were made in very limited numbers - only a handful. Excellent condition with some pencil data entries inside. Rare. Two of these cue cards appear in the photo of Harrison Schmitt in the LMS (Lunar Module Simulator) and are indicated by red arrows, and the other two are present but are being blocked from view by Schmitt. These are the actual cards that are shown in the photo, and they were retrieved after training was complete. A drawing of the Cue Card locations has also been provided showing the visible cards in purple and the unseen ones in orange. The four cards are all dated either 9-14-72 or 9-21-72, and have velcro on the back for attaching to the proper location on the panel. Included are cards for the S-Band Antenna Angles (2"x 7½"), H/HDOT (altitude and rate of decent, 1"x 3"), FT/NM (nautical miles, 1½"x 4") and DEDA Addresses (Data Entry and Display Assembly, 3"x 5"). Flown Atlantis STS-86 Pillow Insulator, Maybe More

A 13"x 5½"x 2" pillow-type insulation blanket definitely flown aboard Atlantis on its STS-86 mission in 1997. There are two tags to this item - one a red removal tag with the date 5-22-98, making this pillow removed sometime after the last Atlantis mission (which was STS-86). The other tag is a Serviceable Tag dated 6-28-89, which was a little over a month after Atlantis returned from its STS-30 mission. This last tag could well mean that this blanket flew on STS-30 all the way through STS-86 until it was removed. That's a total of 17 space flights. Or it could mean that the blanket was removed after STS-30, found to be still useable, and placed back onboard sometime before STS-86. Both tags have serial numbers which match the one on the blanket. Good shape. ESTIMATED VALUE: $100-$150

DC-XA Flown Piece of Composite Hydrogen Tank

XB-70A Flown Honeycomb Material

A flown sample of the high-strength, stainless steel honeycomb material used in the structure of the XB-70A from North American Aviation. The sample is in the shape of a B-70, is about 5½" long and comes complete in its original presentation box. It reads on the front "This memento was on board the first Mach 3 flight of the XB-70A". The XB-70A first surpassed Mach 3 on 14 October 1965. Rare for sure. ESTIMATED VALUE: $300-$400

An 8"x 10" B&W glossy photo showing the X-1 in flight and signed by a total of 8 pilots. Pilots who flew the X-1 that have signed the photo are Crossfield, Griffith, Yeager, Goodlin, Everest, Lundquist and Champine. Joe Cannon has also added his signature, and his signature is quite uncommon. Cannon flew a couple of the very early glide flights of the X-1-3 and was injured in an explosion. The photo is in excellent condition. ESTIMATED VALUE: $500-$600
