1864 $50 Confederate States of America Richmond CSA Bank Note T-66 Grades xf details. After the Civil War broke out in 1861, the newly established Confederate government began to issue it's own money as legal tender to the citizens of the South. The gamble was that if the South won the war, the money would be redeemable. The 1st note from the Government of the Confederate States of America was issued in April of 1861. From then on, notes were issued on through 1864. Almost every Confederate note was painstakingly hand signed and numbered. It is not uncommon for these notes to have uneven, or rough borders since scissors or shears were used to hastily cut the sheets of notes apart.

By way of comparison, the mintage of the any Braided hair Half Cent is almost a fraction of the mintage of the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent (a far more valuable coin), making this an excellent value.

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

France (Colonies) 1 Sol or 12 Deniers 1767France produced these 12 deniers copper coins for use in their western colonies (Haiti, Martinique, Guadaloupe today) with inscriptions COLONIES FRANCOISES (French colonies) and SIT NOMEN DOMINI BENEDICTUM (blessed be the name). The inscription L.XV is for King Louis XV of France.Often times you see this coin with a large 'RF' counterstamp, punched into the SIT NOMEN side. The act of punching the coin usually obliterates the crossed scepters on the opposite side. The 'RF' punching happened in 1793, after the birth of the French Republic (RF or Republique Francaise).

Ranked #16 in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes, the Series 1899 Black Eagle note is from an era when paper money was backed by precious silver, as the issue bears the statement ONE SILVER DOLLAR PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND. It doesn’t take much work to figure out the nickname of the 1899 $1 silver certificate. A quick glance shows three vignettes, an eagle, Ulysses S Grant, and Abraham Lincoln. Somewhere along the way the collecting world decided that this note should be called a “black eagle.” The name has stuck. Whether you have been collected for a week or your entire life, you certainly know what a black eagle is. Grant and Lincoln often get overlooked. This roll is held in an old Steel strong wrapper, patented 1921, stamped "Bankers Trust Company of Philadelphia, Walnut Street at Juniper. This roll contains 20, Peace silver Dollars. The coins may range from circulated to uncirculated. Any condition is possible. We have weighed the roll and can assure you that it is 20 Silver Dollars, that all 20 are PEace Dollars and that it is not an uncirculated roll as the weight comes in slightly under the 534.60 grams that a fully uncirculated roll would weigh. We recently Acquired a large Estate Hoard of solid date Rolls.

***Auction Highlight*** 1916-d Mercury Dime 10c Graded Select Unc By USCG. HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH - Up for auction is a coin that usually comes between ag and vg. Up for auction is the legendary 1916-d Mercury Dime, but this time its in mint state ms62. At first glance this piece suggests a finer grade in terms of its overall appeal. The silvery surfaces are frosty, with cartwheel luster and a tinge of gold on each side. Under a high-power loupe, a few tiny areas of dark toning appear--on the obverse near the top rim and on the reverse tucked into some of the device crevices--but they are not readily visible otherwise. The horizontal bands are completely visible, but they are neither fully split nor totally rounded, the criteria for a Full Bands designation. This piece is nonetheless quite appealing and will fit well into a Mint State or high-grade circulated set also has a 45° CW Rotated die A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

To date only 2 Mint State examples of this 10 arrows variety have ever surfaced. The 10 Arrows 1798 Silver Dollar is an interesting variety in that three of the arrows are missing from the bundle on the reverse. This was not a case of grinding the arrows from the die. Rather, the missing arrows never existed in the first place. The placement of the arrows, apart from the missing ones, is identical on both the 10 arrows variety and the normal 13 arrows 1798 Bust Dollar. The engraver was given the option of adding the additional arrows, and where to place them. In this case, he simply forgot (or neglected) to add them. The example at hand is virtually uncirculated. In fact I think it is. I think that a weak strike has been seen as a soft rub. I would categorize the coin as ms61 details rather than the au58+ details that SEGS has opted to call it. In either case it is one of the finest known examples of the 10 Arrows variety. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

Each side of this piece balances warm chocolate Brown with dark chocolate brown color beneath a dusting of pearlescent luster. The surfaces are overall smooth and untroubled, with just a few trivial marks on the obverse. Evidence of a late die state is apparent near the rims, though the design elements are bold and the eye appeal is delightfully strong. This example represents the first year of the Classic Head series from dies made by John Reich, an accomplished German immigrant who did outstanding work in his era, most notably on various historical medals. His Capped Bust design initiated in 1807 on the half dollar is well known, as is the Classic Head motif inaugurated this year on the cent and in 1809 on the half cent. The Classic Head cents present a challenge in terms of surface quality. Porosity and dullness are the rule, this extending through the end of the series in 1814. Supplies of copper became a problem, especially after the War of 1812 cut off shipments from England. The offered 1808 cent is ideal as an example of the variety and, probably even more likely in terms of bidding activity, as the first year of the design type. I have included another ms61 BN example. Note the poor strike quality which plagued the s-279. Less than 10 known in Unc. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

Why are the dies head-to-head? Chris has shown through die cud research that the Flying Eagle dies were installed in the press with the obverse die in the anvil (lower) position, while Liberty Seated half dollars had their obverse die in the hammer (upper) position." Up for Auction is a coin Long held in a Private collection that would rival most of the other s-166 1878 Large cents. Tied for 3rd Finest known. A diagonal die crack on the reverse from the rim through E(D) of UNITED, to the leaves, stem, ribbon, numerator, and final 0 of the fraction, and to the rim is diagnostic of the variety, which is extremely rare without the crack. A slight bulge in the field behind the Liberty's curls and multiple areas of die clashing combine with a rim break above ST of STATES and a chip out of E(D) to confirm the late die state. The obverse is minimally off-center north, with resultant weakness at LIBERTY. The surfaces are beautifully smooth, lustrous, and iridescent with light and dark-olive patina. I have included one of the very fe other uncirculated examples for your comparison. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. A single die pair produced 29,890 half dollars in 1802, resulting in one of the great Mint State rarities of the early Bust half series. A challenging issue even in circulated grades, the 1802 half dollars were stalwarts of domestic commerce, and nearly the entire mintage circulated heavily. The master dies were the same for 1801 and 1802 half dollars. The 1802 shares the same reverse as the scarce 1801 O-102 half, with the base of A in AMERICA embedded in the wing feathers. It is the only die pair for the year. This Nearly Uncirculated representative displays even slate-gray iridescence, through which traces of satin luster shine at most angles. Light hairlines cause the details designation. The impression is nicely centered on both sides, and the features are crisply detailed. There are no adjustment marks on either side. With just two certified Mint State coins known, this example ranks high on any Condition Census of 1802 half dollars -- a coin that would be a centerpiece of any Bust half collection. Auction catalogs have long touted the rarity of this issue in high grades, although it remains underrated even today. No other date from the early series 1794 to 1807 shows fewer Mint State representatives on the combined population reports. Repeat ... none! I have included another au58 for your comparison. I think you will find very similar light wear at the high points. I might even go so far as to say ours exhibits less wear. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960?s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn?t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

This roll is held in an old Steel strong wrapper, patented 1921, stamped "Bankers Trust Company of Philadelphia, Walnut Street at Juniper. This roll contains 20, Peace silver Dollars. The coins may range from circulated to uncirculated. Any condition is possible. We have weighed the roll and can assure you that it is 20 Silver Dollars, that all 20 are PEace Dollars and that it is not an uncirculated roll as the weight comes in slightly under the 534.60 grams that a fully uncirculated roll would weigh. ***Auction Highlight*** 1860-o Variety 1 Gold Liberty Eagle 10 Graded Choice AU/BU Slider+ By USCG. 0 Highlight of the Entire Auction – Up for Auction is a Numismatic Rarity. An very near Uncirculated 1860-o, one of the final coins struck in the New Orleans Mint, while still under US authority. This example is the Variety 1, which displays bold neck curls compared to Variety 2 and clash marks within the vertical shield stripes on the reverse, from the opening of Liberty's ear. The New Orleans Mint struck 11,100 eagles in 1860, a year in which the Southern factory focused largely on silver half dimes, quarters, half dollars, and silver dollars. Garrett and Guth in their second-edition Gold Encyclopedia call the 1860-O eagles "definitely an underrated sleeper" in the series, and Mint State examples "exceedingly rare." PCGS reports five submissions from MS60 to MS62, while NGC data show seven graded from MS60 to one MS63 (these are almost certainly not all different coins, however). The present piece shows the look of a higher grade to our eyes, attractive reddish-orange surfaces with a good strike in the central reverse but some weakness around the obverse peripheral stars, and scattered ticks and small scrapes of little import. A quite nice example of this historic Southern gold issue. It holds the lone 6th finest example known position. Trends are au58 $10,500 and ms60 $18,500. ***Auction Highlight*** 1836 Reeded Edge GR-12 Capped Bust Half Dollar 50c Graded xf45 details By SEGS. Lovely rim toning highlights this ultra rare 1836 Reeded Edge Half Dollar, GR-1 R2. Good detail throughout the devices. The details designation is due to some light hairlines on the obverse which can be seen with the ad of a loupe. These Reeded Edge half dollars were struck late in 1836 and were some of the first coins struck on the new steam powered coining press. At last the variable human element was removed from striking the coins and the result is a more uniform and predictable strike on each coin made with such a machine. As a tighter collar was used to hold the planchet in place, this no longer allowed for lettering on the edge, as lettering would cause the struck coin to stick in the collar and not eject properly. Thus reeding was imparted by the collar, and coins could be ejected efficiently as part of the striking process and recoil of the dies. The mintage of the Reeded Edge half dollar of 1836 is reported by the Guide Book as 1,200+ pieces of which only a few hundred are known today. This example will serve well to represent this important technological achievement which finally allowed for more mechanized production of dies and of striking the coins in a uniform manner. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

In 1896, the U.S. Treasury printed Silver Certificates with beautiful designs depicting educational motifs. Known as the “Educational Series,” each of these notes is a numismatic masterpiece. They’re also incredibly difficult to come by. We’ve managed to Bring to auction a $2 note depicting an allegorical figure of Science presenting Steam and Electricity to Commerce and Manufacture, paired with a reverse featuring Samuel Morse (inventor of the Morse code and telegraph) and steamship pioneer Robert Fulton! Due to their theme, these notes became known as “Two Dollar Eds,” although in some circles they are known as “Fulton” or “Morse” notes in reference to the portraits of the two famous Americans on the back of the bill. Still, it’s the beautifully and intricately-engraved images on the front of the bill that are truly inspiring – making it arguably the most classically beautiful two-dollar bill ever printed! In the center is the allegorical figure of Science presenting two children, Steam and Electricity, to the more mature figures of Commerce on the left and Manufacture on the right. Issued just before the Turn of the Century, the novelty of Steam and Electricity was still new and their portrayals as youths, while Science, Industry, and Commerce are all mature women effectively illustrates where America was at that time regarding these new forms of power. In the book 100 Greatest Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers, the $2 Educational Note is ranked #11.

Ayer and Company was Gault's biggest single customer, advertising three different patent medicine products on these encasements. Had Gault been able to obtain a steady and large supply of stamps for his enterprise Ayer's business alone might have made Gault's venture a great business success.James Cook Ayer was born in Connecticut in 1818. On his father's death in 1825 young James was sent to Lowell, Massachusetts to live with his uncle, who had been mayor of the town and was a successful businessman there. After finishing Lowell High School Ayer wanted to enter college, but his family decided that he was more suited for a career in business. Accordingly, Ayer was apprenticed to Jacob Robbins, who owned an apothecary shop in Lowell. At the same time Ayer was working for Robbins he was studying medicine with a local doctor; eventually, Ayer gained an M.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, styling himself as Dr. J.C. Ayer thereafter.Ayer was a hard worker and a quick learner, and by 1841 he bought Robbin's drugstore for $2,486.61 with a loan from his uncle, which he was able to repay three years later.Between 1855 and 1870 Ayer became the king of the patent medicine industry. His first success was with his Cherry Pectoral, an opium-based cough syrup flavored with cherry extract which claimed to be beneficial for lung problems. This was followed by his Cathartic Pills, a digestive remedy said to have had no harmful side effects, which were later packaged in an ornate paper wrapper complete with a list of "ingredients' whose names would confuse even a chemist; Ayer's Sarsaparilla, by far his best known product, a restorative beverage little different from any other sarsaparilla drink; Ayer's Ague Cure ("Warranted a speedy and certain cure for fever and ague and all malarial disorders"); and Ayer's Hair Vigor, which was supposed to bring back the original color to grey hair.Ayer's nostrums were little different from many others available at the time. What made Ayer's venture successful was his understanding of the power of advertising. Together with his brother Frederick, who joined the enterprise in 1855, Ayer advertised his medicines in newspapers, by free gifts to purchasers, and through freely distributed flyers and pamphlets. By 1871 Ayer advertised his products in nearly 2,000 newspapers; a little later he gave away 25 million free almanacs in a single year. The purchase of a complete printing plant enabled the firm to publish advertising cards of its own, and to hold down the costs of doing so. When the Boston & Lowell Railroad raised its rates Ayer built his own Lowell & Andover line, connecting to Boston, which opened in 1874.James C. Ayer and Company expanded their interests to include timber lands in Florida; a part ownership in the Lake Superior Iron Company; and ownership of textile mills in Lowell. The company owned a share of the New York Tribune, an investment that encouraged favorable editorial opinion. In Ayer's honor, the town of Groton Junction, Massachusetts was renamed Ayer in 1871; the family donated the town hall. In his later years James Ayer went insane, contemporaries believing his insanity to be caused by overwork, and business affairs were conducted by his brother Frederick. At the time of his death in 1878, Ayer was involved in an undertaking to build a canal connecting the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. When a local government proved unwilling to cooperate, Ayer became involved in a coup attempt against it.The company continued after James Ayer's death into the 1920s. The 1906 Pure Food and Drug Act, however, sounded the death knell for many patent medicine manufacturers. The Act curtailed unsupported medical claims and restricted the use of alcohol, opium derivatives, and other dangerous substances. After that date Ayer's products faded into obscurity, despite a loyal following among many members of the public. Ayer's fall took longer because the firm was larger and better financed than most others in the patent medicine industry of the 19th and early 20th centuries.Ayer's Cathartic Pills encasements are known in one cent, three cent, five cent, ten cent, twelve cent, twenty-four cent and thirty cent denominations; a ninety cent piece in the Massachusetts Historical Society Collection in 1939 was counterfeit. All are known with either long or short arrows beneath the word PILLS on the back. Generally the short arrows varieties are more available than their large arrows counterparts. Along with the Short Arrows one cent and Long Arrows three cents, the Short Arrows three cents is one of the most frequently encountered varieties of Ayer's Cathartic Pills encasements. The present example is ideal for a type collection where a single specimen is required to represent this issuer.

***Auction highlight*** 1840-o Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded ms63 details By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT – Up for Auction is an exceptionally rare 1840-o Liberty $5 Half Eagle Gold. This piece is of the Narrow Mill type and exhibits raised die lines at IB in LIBERTY. It is identified as Variety Two by Winter. There are a few inconsequential abrasions in the unprotected fields, completely commensurate with the grade assigned. There are some light hairlines which is why it has the details designation. I will note that ms63 straight grade is the finest known! Unusual are the surfaces displaying nice luster and an above average strike that is typically absent on 1840-O fives. The rich, yellow-gold coloration on both sides is very pleasing. This is a great example. Experts agree that a total of less than 200 1840-O half eagles exist in all grades. The combined totals of the NGC Census Report, SEGS POP report and the PCGS Population Report suggest an even lower survival rate, especially when taking into consideration the trend of coins being submitted more than once in pursuit of a higher grade designation. The coin in this lot ranks in the upper echelon of known examples. To enthusiasts of New Orleans gold coinage, this piece represents a nearly insurmountable high grade, and to purveyors of southern gold the current specimen is recognized as one the few Select Uncirculated 1840-O five dollars extant. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

This AU 1850-O double eagle exhibits a nice amount of original luster remaining especially in the protected areas around the devices. It offers a mostly satiny texture, vivid golden-yellow patina, overall bold definition and solid Choice AU quality. An immensely popular issue with both double eagle specialists and Southern gold collectors, the 1850-O is the first New Orleans Mint issue of this denomination. The typical survivor from the 141,000-piece mintage grades no finer than VF, and even EFs are scarce by Type I Liberty Head double eagle standards. In AU the 1850-O is nothing short of rare, while Mint State examples are so elusive that most collectors will never see or have the opportunity to acquire one. A leading condition rarity, this AU-55 example will be just right for an advanced gold cabinet. I have included 2 other au55 examples for your comparison. I think ours compares very favorably. According to Jaime Hernandez from PCGS, ‘The 1922 No D Lincoln cent is the only circulation strike coin, in the entire Lincoln cent series which lacks its intended mint mark. In 1922, the Denver Mint was the only Mint which produced cents for that year. Consequently, all 1922 cents should bare the D mint mark. However, since the Denver Mint was under extreme pressure to produce cents for that year, there was a lot of sloppiness in the production process. The 1922 No D Lincoln cent has always been recognized as a major variety within the Lincoln cent series. Due to its popularity this coin has always commanded a hefty premium. Both sides are medium gold, expertly struck and very lustrous. The surfaces are exceptional and they clearly establish this coin as something special among survivors of both the issue and the type. We anticipate keen interest in this exquisite 1889-S twenty among gold specialists.As with most San Francisco Mint double eagles produced since the facility's opening in 1854, the 1889-S had a generous mintage. Some 774,700 pieces were struck, and the issue has long numbered among the more readily obtainable Type III double eagles in circulated grades. Prior to the 1960s, however, the 1889-S was virtually unknown in Mint State. Only a few of the more significant numismatic collections that came to market beginning in the 1930s included a Mint State 1889-S double eagle, while others such as Roach, Flanagan, Baldenhofer and Melish had circulated pieces. Beginning in the 1960s, some Mint State examples were repatriated from overseas holdings, enough that the 1889-S can now be had with relative ease in grades up to and including MS-63. However, as a large-size coin struck in a soft coinage metal, the 1889-S remains rare with smooth, carefully preserved surfaces, as here. Indeed, the present example is a condition rarity of the highest order that would satisfy even the most discerning buyer. TOP POP ALERT Up for Auction is a Near Gem example of the Ultra Rare FS-301 MPD & RPD OC-2 1869-p Seated Liberty Dollar A Top 30 Variety. The 1869-p Seated Dollar is rare in and of itself in Uncirculated condition with a scant 90 examples estimated by PCGS to have survived. To quote the legendary Q. David Bowers of PCGS “ In Mint State, 1869 dollars are very rare, far rarer than Proofs, and are seldom encountered.” The Also Legendary and infamous Breen stated on the topic of varieties of 1869-p Dollars “1-3. Normal Date: Breen-5481. At least three obverse die varieties are known, distinguished from each other by minor variations in the position of the date, not by date size or other dramatic differences” But the FS-301 is a Numismatic Rarity, and is now accepted as the ultimate 1869-p Dollar rarity, a variety that even Breen failed to address. To date PCGS claims to have graded 2 examples as the fs-301, but in fact they are both the same coin, an ms62, which has a tell tale damage by the left star on the obverse. NGC has graded none as the fs-301, but one coin was Identified as an fs-301 by Heritage in their August of 2018 Auction. SEGS before this coin had graded none as the FS-301. So to date 2 examples of the fs-301 are known...Until today. Today Sandi and I are very proud to offer you, the single finest known fs-301 and one of only 3 known of a coin already rare in and of itself. It is the Osborn-Cushing Die State a/d. A Top-30 Variety. One of three obverse dies used to strike proofs, and later brought into service to coin circulation strikes. This near-Gem example was struck for circulation, yet it retains proof like tendencies at the borders with frosted, pearlescent centers. Sharply struck, the obverse displays repunching at the base of the 1 and remnants of a misplaced 6 in the dentils below the primary 6. The reverse shows faint die cracks throughout the legends and at the base of ONE DOL., with noticeable die doubling of the motto. The coin is the single finest of the fs-301, and one of 3 known, and of the entire 1869-p population it is tied for 5th finest known. The coin it is tied with is the common 1869-p (if any coin with only 90 known can be called common), and it sold at auction in September of 2019 for $19,388. Trends are ms65 $80,000 ms64+ $20,000 and ms64 $11,500, and that's for the non fs-301. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

The 1893-S is a prominent rarity among Morgan dollars, with an interesting twist: A plurality of known survivors are in Very Fine condition. Such a grade is indicative of a specific, moderate-to-light amount of wear that is inconsistent with the experiences of other issues. Many have concentrations at Fine or lower, while a handful of Treasury and GSA release issues have higher modes. What could have caused the distinctive wear pattern?Q. David Bowers, in several of his written references, relates the anecdotal evidence supplied by E.S. Thresher, who wrote in the July 1925 The Numismatist that the 1893-S was one of only a handful of Morgan dollar issues he had not encountered in circulation. This led Bowers to speculate that perhaps the late 1920s saw the release of most of the 1893-S dollars to Rocky Mountain states, where coin collectors were scarce, and there they circulated until silver dollars fell out of fashion for general commerce.The exact reason seems unknowable, yet the Bowers thought-experiment leads to some interesting possibilities. A hard fact, on the other hand, is that the 1893-S dollar is elusive in AU grades and a condition rarity in Mint State. This near-Mint survivor, still impressively lustrous in the protected areas and silver-gray patina, is well-defined with only a touch of friction over the high points. A few light hairlines and wispy marks in the fields have little impact on the eye appeal but account for the details designation. I have included another au58 for your comparison. They came to be nicknamed greenbacks for the color of the back. These notes were printed on paper that was very fragile so it's common to find them in horribly compromised condition. Finding a Nicer One Like this is a rarity. Head of Salmon P. Chase, Secretary of the Treasury under Abraham Lincoln,1861-1864, and Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court 1864-1873. This roll is held in an old Steel strong wrapper, patented 1921, stamped "Bankers Trust Company of Philadelphia, Walnut Street at Juniper. This roll contains 20, 1894-o Morgan silver Dollars. The coins may range from circulated to uncirculated. Any condition is possible. We have weighed the roll and can assure you that it is 20 Silver Dollars, that all 20 are 1899-p and that it is not an uncirculated roll as the weight comes in slightly under the 534.60 grams that a fully uncirculated roll would weigh. We recently Acquired a large Estate Hoard of solid date Rolls. Trends lists au50 at $210, xf40 at $185, vf20 at $165, f12 at $145, vg8 at $150, g4 at $120.

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Stardust 1942 Walker & 1911 Barber Ends. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

Barnum was the Mayor of Bridgeport during his life. The city of Bridgeport created this coin to celebrate its centennial, but The city had actually been around since the 1600's as a major manufacturing and port city, but it was not officially incorporated until 1836. An odd Commemorative to say the least. When examining a Bridgeport, the first place to look for wear is Barnum’s cheek and the eagle’s wing.
