WELCOME TO THE AUCTION

Lot #1 (Sale Order 1 of 720)

Just to Reiterate from our terms and conditions: I do my best to estimate the grade/condition of the coins, but please note, unless specifically mentioned in the description, I do not guarantee grade or condition. I DO ALWAYS GUARANTEE 100% AUTHENTICITY, on an immediate buyback including any premium paid. But please understand, if you win a coin and receive it and send it out to one of the grading companies and it comes back graded less than I estimated or "genuine but Ungradeable", we will not buy back that coin. No refunds will be issued. Please understand this and look at the large pictures and make your own decision on the grade/condition. I do my best to give you my best estimate and your repeat attendance at my auctions is what I strive for, so I always attempt to give my best description/estimate of the coins being auctioned.

Lot #40 (Sale Order 26 of 720)

1875 US Fractional Currency 10c Fifth Issue fr-1266 Short Key Graded au58 EPQ By PMG. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

1924 Huguenot Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Select Unc

Lot #58 (Sale Order 40 of 720)

1924 Huguenot Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Select Unc. Issued to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the settlement of New Netherlands, the 1924 Huguenot Walloon Tercentenary Half Dollar was the only commemorative coin released for the year. The following year would see the issuance of coins under four different programs, the greatest number to date, although it would later be exceeded. The subject of commemoration was the founding of New Netherlands, now New York, by a group of Dutch colonists in 1624. A church group known as the Huguenot-Walloon New Netherland Commission sought the commemorative coin program, which was eventually approved. There was some controversy about the role of government in creating a fund raiser for a private church group, although the program proceeded. The obverse of the 1924 Huguenot Half Dollar featured portraits of Admiral Coligny and William the Silent. Although they were not involved in the settlement, they were viewed as leaders in the struggle for religious freedom. An image of the New Nederland is shown on the reverse. This is the ship that brought the settlers to the New World. Both the obverse and reverse were designed by George T. Morgan.

***Auction Highlight*** 1936-d San Diego Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67+ By SEGS. The issue commonly referred to as the San Diego Half Dollar was authorized to mark the California-Pacific International Exposition. The commemorative coins were first issued in 1935 struck at the San Francisco Mint, and later in 1936 struck at the Denver Mint. The obverse design was based on elements of the California State Seal. Minerva is seated with a spear and shield bearing the word “Eureka”, a grizzly bear is to her left, a horn of plenty is to the right, and a ship and miner at work appear in the background. The reverse image includes two of the exposition buildings, the observation tower and the Sate of California building. The designer of the coin was Robert Aitken, best known for his design of the 1915-S Panama Pacific $50 Gold Piece. The full maximum authorized mintage of 250,000 pieces was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1935 and sales began at the price of $1 each. After slow initial sales, the exposition sought and received Congressional approval to send back 180,000 of the unsold coins to be melted and reminted with the 1936 date. The 1936-dated coins would be struck at the Denver Mint and offered for sale at $1.50 each. Meanwhile, a remaining quantity of the 1935-dated coins were offered at $3 each. Later, the cost of the 1936 coins were also raised to $3 each.Despite these efforts, sales progressed even more slowly. Eventually, 150,000 of the 1936 coins were sent back to the Mint for melting. After the entire convoluted process, total sales were 100,224 out of the 250,000 maximum authorized mintage. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. Lot #89 (Sale Order 71 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1796 BB-61, B-4 Draped Bust Dollar $1 Graded au53 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH - Up for Auction is a superb 1796 Small Eagle Bust Dollar. Bowers Die State I. The 1796, BB-61 is rare in About Uncirculated or finer condition. The Bowers reference suggests no more than 30 pieces exist in any AU grade, and only about a dozen Mint State pieces are known. This example is remarkably well-defined with smooth, toned fields and nice mint luster that glows beneath the toning. Bands of slate-blue alternate with areas of tan-gold patina on the obverse, while the blue overtones are less prevalent on the still-lustrous reverse. Slight wear on Liberty's temple and the eagle's breast indicate minimal circulation. One other variety exists with the Small Date, Large Letters configuration -- the BB-64 die marriage -- but that reverse die failed early and only two or three examples are confirmed, making the BB-61 the sole 1796 die pair to represent the type. Superb eye appeal. I wish you luck in obtaining this great piece of American history. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

***Auction Highlight*** 1907 TOP POP Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded ms68 By SEGS (fc)

Lot #96 (Sale Order 78 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1907 TOP POP Gold Liberty Half Eagle $5 Graded ms68 By SEGS. HIGHLIGHT OF THE ENTIRE AUCTION – Up for Auction is a TOP POP Tied for Finest Known, None Finer, Spectacular 1907 $5 Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle Graded ms68, near perfection. The 1907 Liberty Head half eagle was produced in a nominal amount of 626,100 circulation strikes plus 92 proof coins, and it is widely available in lower Mint State grades. The average mint state example grades a tad higher than MS62, at which level most are attractive and lustrous, well-produced but a bit banged up from coin-to-coin contact, as a rule. The 1907 Liberty Head (and the 1907-D and 1908 of the same design) seem anachronistic to collectors today, as it was, of course, the year that Augustus Saint-Gaudens' stunning new designs for the ten and twenty dollar denominations came to numismatic awareness. It would be 1908, however, before Bela Pratt's sunken-relief (intaglio or coelanaglyptic) designs for the quarter eagle and half eagle would debut. All this gives the late Liberty Head coinage a special fondness in collectors' hearts. The present piece will definitely quicken those hearts as well, as the finest certified of the issue It is impossible to single out which criterion is the most blatantly appealing -- the sharp strike, the flowing, caramel-gold color, the immaculate preservation? -- but one glance will tell collectors all they need to know. I have included another ms68, which is currently listed on collectors corner for sale at $63,750. If you look at that example, please note the discoloration by the date and the bumpiness on the rim. I think ours is clearly finer. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation

1936 Norfolk Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM++ Unc

Lot #98 (Sale Order 80 of 720)

1936 Norfolk Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades GEM++ Unc. The 1936 Norfolk Bicentennial Half Dollar was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Norfolk, Virginia as a borough. Both the obverse and reverse of the coins carry incredibly voluminous number of inscriptions, which dominate the design. At the center of the obverse is a reproduction of the Norfolk City Seal, which carries a ship plow and stocks of grain. Inscriptions are placed in three concentric circles surrounding this image. The inscriptions read “Borough of Norfolk Bicentennial”, “1936”, “City of Norfolk Virginia”, “Town 1682”, “Borough 1736”, “City 1845”, “Et Terra Et Mare Divitiae Tuae” (Both by Land and by Sea Thy Riches Are), and “Crescas” (Thou Shalt Grow). The reverse carries an image of the Royal Mace of Norfolk, which was presented by Lieutenant Governor Dinwiddie in 1753. The date “1636” appears at center with two floral sprays. As with the obverse, many inscriptions surround, reading “United States of America”, “Half Dollar”, “Norfolk Virginia Land Grant”, “In God We Trust”, “E Pluribus Unum”, and “Liberty”. Designs for the coin were prepared by William Marks Simpson and Marjorie Emory Simpson. This Commemorative marked an event of purely local interest, and realized poor sales at the time of issue. In the irony that often accompanies such initial failure, it is now among the Scarcer and More Costly Coins in the old commemorative series. This bill authorized the coining of not more than 25,000 half dollars, to be coined at a single mint and with a single design. The entire mintage of 25,013 Norfolk halves was coined in September at the Philadelphia Mint (the odd 13 pieces were reserved for assay and later destroyed). ***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino The Mint 1912 Barber & 1942

Lot #115 (Sale Order 97 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino The Mint 1912 Barber & 1942 Walker Ends. Up for auction is a Consignment I have secured a collection of old 1960’s Las Vegas Casino Half Dollar Shot Gun Rolls from various Casinos. These Rolls contain 20 Half Dollars. They have tight ends and are wild!. I opened three rolls to examine the contents and what I found was mostly Circulated Walkers, a few Franklins and a Seated coin or two and a couple of Barbers. But after I opened the rolls, I wished I hadn’t as they were so cool as antique Las Vegas Half Rolls. I have only seen a handful of these ever. The consignee has given us some additional rolls. We estimate the rolls to be worth $2000 each as a collectable antique, but if the roll is opened and has a rare date, who knows the value, a 1921 Walker even in low grade is worth over $500, and several other dates are worth over $200 each. But who knows, maybe a rare 1878-s Seated is inside. ($35k in g4), or an 1892-o Barber ($5k in G4). In any event the rolls themselves are amazing collectibles of a bygone era of the Rat pack and Las Vegas. From the rolls we have received there are 10 different casinos. Good Luck.

Lot #119 (Sale Order 101 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1874 25c Fractional Currency, 5th Issue, Short Key Fr-1309 Graded cu66 EPQ By PMG.

***Auction Highlight*** 1925 Lexington Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms67+ By SEGS. Another celebrated issue of the early commemorative series is the 1925 Lexington Concord Sesquicentennial Half Dollar. This coin was issued to Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the "Shot Heard 'Round The World", which symbolically began the American Revolution and Forever Changed the World. The coins were designed by Chester Beach at the request of the local communities. The obverse was based on Daniel Chester French’s statue of a Minuteman soldier and the reverse depicts the Old Belfry from which Minutemen were alerted to action. The Lexington and Concord Half Dollars carried an authorized mintage of 300,000 coins. The Philadelphia Mint produced 162,099 coins which were nearly entirely sold. The distribution took place through local banks, with a vast number sold to the local communities and even more sold throughout New England. Wider demand was a result of the true historical significance of the commemorative issue. The coins were packaged in small wooden boxes, which featured images from the obverse and reverse of the Lexington and Concord Sesquicentennial Half Dollar, and originally sold for $1 each. When looking at a Lexington Commemorative, the points to check for wear include the Minute Man’s Thighs and the Near Corner of the Belfry, particularly Toward its Top. These same Highpoints may also show Weakness of Strike. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win Coin

PCGS 1863 US Fractional Currency 25c 4th Issue fr-1301 George Washinton Graded cu62 By PCGS. Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing ?paper coins? also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

Lot #141 (Sale Order 122 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1893 Isabella Isabella Quarter 25c Graded ms66 By SEGS. When Examining an Isabella Quarter on the Obverse, wear first shows in the area of the Crown’s Central Oval Jewel and on Isabella’s cheek. Reverse wear will first be noted on the Strand of Wool Resting on the Kneeling Spinner’s Thigh. Due to Die Wear, Raised or Sharp Definition of the Strand of Wool is not the norm. This area can display a Slight Weakness of Strike, which is par for the Design and should not be Labeled Wear. The 1893 Isabella Quarter holds an important place among early commemorative coins of the United States. It represents the first legal tender U.S. coin to depict an actual woman, as opposed to the allegorical Liberty. Additionally, it was the first to depict a foreign monarch and the first and only commemorative quarter dollar. The coins were created at the suggestion of the Board of Lady Managers for the World’s Columbian Exposition. At the time, the Columbian Half Dollar had already been authorized, produced, and was still being sold to the public as a souvenir coin for the exposition. The authorized production for the quarters was a relatively low 40,000 pieces with identical specifications to circulating quarters. The obverse design of the Isabella Quarter features a left facing portrait of Queen Isabella of Spain who had sponsored Columbus’s voyages to the New World. The reverse design represents women’s industry with a depiction of a female holding a distaff and spindle. The designs for the coin were prepared by Charles E. Barber based on sketches from Kenyon Cox.The 1893 Isabella Quarters were sold for $1 each in the Women’s Building. Compared to the Columbian Half Dollars, which were also sold for $1, the quarter dollars presented a worse value. Correspondingly, sales were much lower with a portion of the mintage returned to the Mint for melting. The final mintage for the coins after subtracting those melted was a low 24,214.When Examining an Isabella Quarter on the Obverse, wear first shows in the area of the Crown’s Central Oval Jewel and on Isabella’s cheek. Reverse wear will first be noted on the Strand of Wool Resting on the Kneeling Spinner’s Thigh. Due to Die Wear, Raised or Sharp Definition of the Strand of Wool is not the norm. ***Auction Highlight*** 1921 Missouri Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms64 By SEGS (fc)

Lot #154 (Sale Order 135 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1921 Missouri Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms64 By SEGS. The Obverse Depicts Daniel Boone, even though he was best known for his exploits in Kentucky, since he made his home in Missouri for the last quarter of his life. When examining a Missouri Centennial for wear, on the obverse, friction first shows on Boone's cheek and on the hair behind his ear and shoulder. On the reverse, rub is first evident on the arm of the frontiersman. Scarce and very rare commemorative. The Missouri Centennial Half Dollar was authorized to mark the 100th anniversary of the admission of Missouri to the Union. It represented an interesting commemorative issue since it was minted in two different varieties, a tactic that would be repeated for some subsequent coins.Authorization called for production of up to 250,000 of the silver half dollars. The coins would be released at the Missouri Centennial Exposition and State Fair held in August 1921 at the state capital Sedalia. The original cost was $1 per coin with distribution through the Sedalia Trust Company. At the request of the Chairman of the exposition, a certain number of 1921 Missouri Centennial Half Dollars were minted with “2*4” (2 Star 4) on the obverse to signify admission as the 24th state in the Union. He requested that the first 5,000 pieces carrying special marking, which be believed would make the coins more marketable. Research suggests that 10,000 pieces were struck with the marking. The obverse design of the Missouri Centennial Half Dollar features a bust of Daniel Boone, wearing his well known coon-skin cap. The reverse design features a scene of Daniel Boone standing with a Native American against a background of stars. Boone holds a power horn and rifle and points westward. The designer of the coin was Robert Aitken, a medalist and sculptor who had previously designed the 1915 Panama Pacific $50 Gold Piece. The final mintages for the 1921 Missouri Half Dollar net of melting is estimated to be 9,400 of the coins including “2*4” in the field and 11,400 of the coins without the marking. Although intended to be a scarce variety, availability of the “2*4” is only slightly less than the plain version due to the overall low mintage of the issue. When examining a Missouri Centennial for wear, on the obverse, friction first shows on Boone's cheek and on the hair behind his ear and shoulder. On the reverse, rub is first evident on the arm of the frontiersman. Scarce and very rare commemorative.

Lot #165 (Sale Order 146 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1925 Fort Vancouver Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms65+ By SEGS. One of the four different commemorative coins issued during the year was the 1925 Fort Vancouver Centennial Half Dollar. This coin featured designs by Portland, Oregon artist Sidney Bell, which were modeled by Laura Gardin Fraser. The occasion commemorated was the 100th anniversary of the founding Fort Vancouver, Washington. This outpost had served as a trading center for settlers and Native Americans within the territory. The coins were issued as part of a week long local celebration and sold for $1 each.Dr. John McLoughlin is depicted on the obverse of the coin. He had established Fort Vancouver on the Columbia River in 1825 and later went on to found Oregon City. The reverse of the Fort Vancouver Half Dollar portrays a pioneer holding a musket with the Fort and a mountain peak in the background. Authorized production was set at 300,000, which proved far too optimistic. A quantity of 50,000 coins was struck at the San Francisco Mint (although the coins did not carry the “S” mint mark) and after unsold coins were returned for melting, net distribution was a paltry 14,994 coins.

Lot #178 (Sale Order 158 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** 1936-s Cincinnati Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms66+ By SEGS. The 1936 Cincinnati Music Center Half Dollar is often cited as one of the early commemorative coins issued for a topic questionable historical significance and primarily for the profit of an enthusiastic promoter. Officially, the coins were authorized to commemorate “the fiftieth anniversary of Cincinnati, Ohio, as a center of music, and its contribution to the art of music for the past fifty years.”The obverse design features an image of Stephen Foster, an important American composer of his era, known for songs such as “Oh! Susanna”, “Camptown Races”, and “My Old Kentucky Home”. The reverse features a female figure holding a lyre, intended to personify music. When the designs were sent to the the Commission of Fine Arts for approval, they raised series issues about the design and legitimacy of the commemorative coin issue. They could not find anyone in music circles who knew about the proposed coin. They also presented information showing that the city’s leadership in music could be traced back to 1873, with the May Festival Association organized by George Ward Nichols. The date 1886, which was included on the coin, carried no particular significance. Stephen Foster, who appeared on the obverse of the coin, had no role in the movement in Cincinnati, but only lived there briefly while he was a bookkeeper.Despite these reservations and the CFA’s outright rejection of the designs, the coins were ultimately issued at their maximum authorized mintage of 15,000 pieces plus additional examples for assay. The production was divided equally between the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mint facilities, resulting in extremely low mintages. The coins were offered at $7.75 for a complete set of three coins, which represented the highest initial pricing for a silver commemorative to date. Very few coins were actually purchased at this price, as the entire mintage was quickly announced as sold out. It is believed that many of the sets were placed with insiders or those close to the issuer, who began offering them for sale at significantly higher prices following the “sell out.”

***Auction Highlight*** 1946 Iowa Near Top POP! Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Graded ms68+ By SEGS. The Iowa Commemorative marks the Final Run of the Old US Commemorative Program. The Iowa and the Booker T. Washington were approved on the same day by President Truman and mark an End to the Program. When looking at an Iowa Commemorative, check for signs of wear on the Eagle’s Neck and Head, and on the Building’s Central Pillars. After a period of dormancy for commemorative coins, the Iowa Centennial Half Dollar was produced and issued in 1946 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Iowa’s statehood.Abuses of the commemorative coin program had come to the forefront after a Congressional hearing held on April 15, 1937. There were complaints about some programs which had ordered coins from a number of different mints over a number of years to create additional varieties and complaints about the curious distribution of some programs which resulted in few if any coins being sold to the public at issue prices. As a result of the hearings 81 bills proposing commemorative coins were buried and authority was revoked to produce additional coins for existing programs. The issuance of commemorative coins was reconsidered following a change in administration. The 1946 Iowa Centennial Half Dollar was authorized on August 7, 1946 with a maximum mintage of 100,000 pieces. The obverse design of the coins would feature the Old Stone Capitol. On the reverse of the coin was the image of an eagle adapted from the Iowa State Seal. The eagle holds a ribbon in its beak which reads, “‘Our Liberties Our Rights We Prize and Will Maintain”. The coins were distributed by the Iowa Centennial Committee for $2.50 to state residents and $3 to others. The entire authorized mintage sold out, with more than 90,000 distributed to residents. An amount of 500 pieces was set side for distribution in 1996, and 500 more pieces for distribution in 2046. In 1996, the coins were offered for $500 each in special holders. Sales were slow since the offering price was far above the market price for uncirculated pieces. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away Coin

1927 Vermont Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Choice Unc

Lot #220 (Sale Order 191 of 720)

1927 Vermont Old Commem Half Dollar 50c Grades Choice Unc. The 1927 Vermont Sesquicentennial Half Dollar was issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Bennington and the independence of Vermont. This occurred in 1777, and it was not until 1791 that Vermont would join the Union.Designs for the coin were by Charles Keck, who had earlier create the design for the Panama-Pacific Gold Dollar. His design for the 1927 Vermont Half Dollar was executed in the highest relief of any early commemorative half dollar issued. The obverse of the coin depicts Ira Allen, the founder of Vermont and one of the Green Mountain Boys, who would defeat the British at the Battle of Bennington. The design for the reverse of the coin was a point of contention for those involved in the design process. Other possibilities had included an image of the Bennington Monument obelisk and an image of the Catamount Tavern where the Green Mountain Boys would meet. It was eventually decided that the image of a catamount would represent be more appropriate as a representation of the tavern. The original issue price for the Vermont Sesquicentennial Half Dollar was $1, with sales conducted by the Bennington Battle Monument and Historical Association. Out of the maximum authorized mintage of 40,000 pieces, a total of 28,142 were distributed and the rest were returned to the Mint for melting. Most of the Mintage were Sold to Vermont Residents and Non-Numismatists and therefore were Improperly Handled and Many Show Wear. When Examining a Vermont Commemorative, Points to Check for Wear include Ira Allen’s Cheek and the Hair at his Temple; on the Reverse, Examine the Uppermost Part of the Cat’s Foreleg and its Hip.

Lot #235 (Sale Order 204 of 720)

***Auction Highlight*** Old Casino 50c Roll $10 Halves Las Vegas Casino Golden Nugget 1945 Walker & 1912 Barber Ends. Good Luck.
