Shows his time on the Steamer Merrimack and his trip to The Gulf of Mexico, drills, the weather, disease, death of an artist from Harper's, and much more. The diary has been transcribed by someone in the past, you can easily read each of Fleming's writings in it, an amazing addition to this. Also includes another transcript of Bull Run to Santiago and a clipping from the Army and Navy Journal, 1894 to accompany this special piece. Native American Hand Made Hunting Knife w/ Elk Antler Handle and Beaded American Flag Sheath Lot #118 (Sale Order 116 of 341) One of a kind amazing piece of Native American craftsmanship.
The elk antler handle knife was made by a Pacific Northwest Native American named Spike before it was purchased weeks after 9/11. Good amount of detail and craftsmanship is shown in the horse handle. Blade is in excellent condition, well done and ready to make it a collectible piece. The beaded American Flag sheath is fantastic, it was made specifically to hold this custom knife. It was made after 9/11 by a Native American named Ken Aling. Note: Ken was worked at a Kansas museum repairing Native American items with traditional methods. Ken used the lazy stitch technique to produce the gem of a sheath. Horsehair was used on some of the ends, they were dyed with herbs and berries. Buffalo hide was used for the leather, sinew was used for thread. The colored beads, design, and attention to detail are amazing in this piece.
