Cyril Colnik Iron Bracket Cyril Colnik Iron Bracket

Cyril Colnik Iron Bracket

Lot #2071 (Sale Order 62 of 306)

Attributed to Cyril Colnik, Milwaukee blacksmith born in Austria (1871-1958) and purchased from his daughter in 1960. The craftsman who made this hand forged wrought iron bracket sign holder constructed it without welding. The pieces are pinned together. This was most likely architectural accent for a sign. It measures 63"T at the wall by and sticks out from the wall 60", which makes it perfect for an antique, two sided wood sign. You can see in the photos that there is an old rust surface and this bracket is strong with no problems or restorations. Truly a one of a kind treasure from the past! Don't miss out. Consigner is willing to, on request, furnish a letter of original purchase. The sign holder was one of many pieces of Cyril's work that was purchased from his daughter, Gretcher Colnik before her death in Milwaukee, WI. Work is exhibited in Milwaukee at Villa Terrace Art Museum. Measures 61"L x 62.5"T x 17.125"W. See photos. Link below contains more information and reading about Cyril Colnik. https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/colnik

1893 Life Size Gypsy Fortune Teller Statue 1893 Life Size Gypsy Fortune Teller Statue

1893 Life Size Gypsy Fortune Teller Statue

Lot #2076 (Sale Order 67 of 306)

This statue was originally exhibited and purchased at the Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893 which celebrated the 400th anniversary of Columbus' voyage. It was eventually owned by William Anastos who used it as part of the décor at the Cairo Supper Club located at 4015 N. Sheridan Rd. in Chicago. The Cairo which opened in 1949, was a popular Chicago night spot that featured top name live entertainment. On May 11, 1964 the club was firebombed as part of the Chicago mob’s control of the Chicago restaurant & bar industry. There was extensive damage to the club and it never reopened. The statue suffered damage to the table legs but was salvaged from the debris. The legs were repaired and Anastos eventually sold the statue to a suburban antique dealer who has had it in his possession for over 50 years. The proper title of the statue is La Diseuse De Bonaventure – The Fortune Teller of Bonaventure. It is life size and has a polychrome finish. In overall very good condition with the exception of the repaired legs. A unique piece of Chicago history. Measures 58”T x 22”W x 25”D.

Michael Garman's City Scape Door Window

Lot #2093 (Sale Order 84 of 306)

Michael Garman's City Scape Door Window without Magic. Michael Garman was born in 1938 in Fort Worth Texas and started making miniature cowboys when he was 8 out of pipe cleaners. He would later travel throughout Mexico going door to door selling one of a kind hand made crafts to make a living. In the 1960's Garman moved to San Francisco and decided to make his art more accessible to everyone and stopped making one of a kind work. In 1975, he started his 40 year long project of Magic Town. The town was highly detailed and showed off various people in their everyday lives and the stories behind them. You could see a teacher teaching piano lessons or a cook having a smoke break in the back alley of his restaurant. All of his pieces made up 3000 square feet. This piece is one of his earlier ones, being made in 1975 and retired in 1978. This 1:6 scale model of one of Garman's favorite characters, Spence, features a highly detailed piece of Spence's front door as he gazes out of it. Chipped red bricks, cracks in the sidewalk, trash can full of garbage with some spilling out into the street, even dust on the broken windows are all part of his work. Top of the piece has a hatch with 2 light bulbs that shine light down onto his work. Cable for lights is in good condition. This piece is in pristine condition and comes with a letter from the Michael Garman Museum. Measures 19 1/2"W x 9 3/4"D x 27"T.

Rare 1880's Horse-Drawn 2 Seat Reindeer Sleigh Rare 1880's Horse-Drawn 2 Seat Reindeer Sleigh

Rare 1880's Horse-Drawn 2 Seat Reindeer Sleigh

Lot #2192 (Sale Order 176 of 306)

The "Sleigh Craze" in the United States reached it's peak in the 1880's with an average of 150,000 sleighs being built each year. Frank Miller received a patent on Aug 15, 1851 for his "Reindeer Cutter" which he sold as a parts kit to small sleigh building shops for $5.00. One of these sleighs is featured in the March 2011 issue of, The Carriage Journal, winning the People's Choice Award at the Carriage Association of America Winter Conference held in Minneapolis, Minn. It states that, "there are only 3 known to exist." Whether this is one of the 3 or a fourth one that has surfaced we do not know. It is a true "One Horse Open Sleigh" sometimes referred to as a cutter. Seats two. What is unusual to this sleigh is that the sides are wood cut outs of deer with metal antlers. No shafts included. Measures6'-6" long, 48" wide, 47" tall.

Evans Big Six Wheel

Lot #2246 (Sale Order 227 of 306)

Nice wooden gambling wheel marked H C Evans & Co of Chicago Illinois on the front. The wheel itself is in excellent condition with some edge wear on the sides and rear. The wheel is attached to a pole mounted on 3 cast iron legs. Pole paint is worn but still retains 85%+ of the original color. Overall, this is a great example of a Big Six Wheel game that would fit in any collection. Battery Gun Co. M1862 Gatling Gun .58 Cal (M)

Lot #2256 (Sale Order 238 of 306)

A reproduction of the famous M1862 Gatling Gun invented by Dr. Richard Gatling, this Gatling gun is fixed on a full size 2 wheel cart. This Gatling gun follows in the footsteps of the original being a .58 caliber black powder gun with a cast brass/bronze receiver, crank, barrel fitting, and front sight. The original 1862 Gatling gun made its combat debut during the Civil War where the Union would utilize them during the Siege of Petersburg. The Gatling gun would be officially adopted after the Civil War and stay in American service until after the Spanish-American War. The gun mount features a screw with turn wheel to adjust elevation and a swiveling mount held fast by a brass pin. Gun mount is a steel square bolted to the brackets for the carriage. Green painted oak timbers have a few splits in the wood. The oak wheels have metal strips on edges to take the brunt of any impact. Black painted metal on carriage has a few minor paint chips on the handles at the rear. Steel strips show signs of use with some surface rust present. The gun itself has some very minor wear to finish. Steel rifled barrels have a black powder coat finish that is in fine condition with the exception of minor pitting at the muzzles of 2 barrels. Bronze retains its shiny luster with the plate atop the rear of the gun denoting model, manufacturer, and serial number. Some minor loss of black paint present on model plate. The .58 caliber bores are mirror bright and shiny with sharp, strong rifling. Some minor surface rust present on elevation screw and some tarnishing present inside hopper well. Brass screw slots are undamaged. One 20 round magazine present in the gun with some minor wear to black paint. This gun comes with a reloading press, a transportation crate with a serial number of 0051, a tackle box with ~197 reusable steel chambers for .58 caliber, and a crate containing 4 20 round magazines for the gun. Lot #2262 (Sale Order 244 of 306)

Brunswick Triple Arch Bar From Gene Autry Museum. This triple arch Brunswick bar has quite a provenance. Antique Brass Boat Binnacle Antique Brass Boat Binnacle

Antique Brass Boat Binnacle

Lot #2267 (Sale Order 254 of 306)

Ship binnacles were mounted compasses for a ship that has to compensate for the magnetic affect of the iron ship in order to give the correct reading. This was achieved with various magnetic instruments in the center. Other binnacles also used timers for speed and oil lamps for vision. The center has a large glass window for viewing the compass itself which can rotate on the X Y and Z plane with 2 iron correction spheres on either side and the fore and aft magnets below, shielded by a door. Inside the door has 2 crank handles for adjustment mounted on the sides. This binnacle is made almost entirely from brass. Comes with multiple tubes and caps for the crew to add lamps and other instruments. Marked "Lionel NY USA" on compass face. Top section that shields the compass has some cracks in the brass, all of which have been repaired. Brass surfaces could use a good cleaning but overall, this binnacle is in good condition and would made a great display piece or conversation starter. Measures 59"T x 34"W x 19"D.

1932 Spillman Carousel 1932 Spillman Carousel

1932 Spillman Carousel

Lot #2280 (Sale Order 268 of 306)

This carousel has been in the Wilson family since it was built in 1932 by Spillman Engineering of North Tawanda, New York. Wilson Famous Shows of Astoria, Illinois traveled the carnival circuit for over 50 years. Ray Wilson, whose father started the business in 1911, ran the traveling carnival until shortly before his passing in 1984. Ray spent the last winter of his life working on the carousel getting it ready for the next season. It was not to be. For the next 37 years, the carousel lay stored in it’s enclosed travel trailer, waiting. The family has decided to sell it as one unit rather than breaking it up for the horse value hoping that someone will restore it. The carousel is a 2 abreast unit with 20 jumpers and a chariot. The all wood, carved horses are stripped and ready for restoration. The mechanism needs a total rebuild with several castings and the main bearing broken. It is almost unheard of that a carousel comes to market with its complete history let alone in the hands of the original owners. The family will provide the new owner with vintage photographs and the history of the carousel.

Victrola Double Sided Dealer Sign Victrola Double Sided Dealer Sign

Victrola Double Sided Dealer Sign

Lot #2300 (Sale Order 279 of 306)

This magnificent Circa 1920's Victrola outdoor sign was offered for sale to Victor phonograph dealers through an industry trade magazine called, The Voice of The Victor. Commonly referred to as an “opal glass” sign with puffed out glass letters, this style of signage fell out of favor by the mid 1920’s due to the emerging popularity of neon. This is possibly the only known example of an opal glass Victrola sign to survive. We believe that this sign originally hung outside of a dealership in or near Detroit Michigan based on information on the sign. Hand lettered on the street end of the sign is, L.F.R. Bellows Co. Agt. Detroit, MI. Bellows was a major sign company based in Detroit which installed and serviced signs. The double-sided hand painted all metal cabinet has cutouts for the individual glass letters and an oval at the top of the face which displays a reverse on glass color rendition of the iconic “His Master’s Voice” logo. Only one of the original glass ovals survived and was badly deteriorated. The image was digitally rebuilt, and two new glass ovals were made and installed in the cabinet. The metal cabinet as well as the opal glass letters are all original and in very good condition. Sign illumination is provided by 10 internal 110V Edison base bulbs. The wiring and lamp sockets have been checked and cleaned, and a new grounded power cable has been added. The original surviving oval glass logo is included and will go to the winning bidder. Sign measures 7’W X 35” T X 9.5”D.
