The Model 1892 was another fine John M. Browning design, closely following the lines of the successful Model 1886, and was intended to replace the Model 1873.

Compact, light weight, handy, and with a smooth action; the ?92 is a pleasure to shoot. It was offered in rifle, carbine and muskets configurations. The musket configuration is considered rare, with only 574 produced of a total 1,004,675. Manufactured from 1892 through 1941, in solid and take down variations, many special order options were available making this model popular with collectors.

The 1892 was initially offered in the same shorter length pistol cartridges as the Model 1873 with the .25 W.C.F. caliber being added in 1895.

Model 1886 Lever-Action Rifles

Game changer. With the introduction of the Winchester Model 1886  the world of lever actions was changed forever. No previous lever action ever handled as well. No previous lever was as strong. No other lever action ever offered chamberings in such powerful cartridges.

The new standard. A new standard was set, and it would be years before another lever action would even come close to the perfection of a Winchester 1886. The 1886 Winchester accompanied settlers all across America. It soon became the premier big game hunting rifle for North America. It was the rifle that became a Theodore Roosevelt favorite when he was a working cattleman in the Dakotas, years before he was President of the United States.

This is a Pre-War (First Generation) Colt Single Action Army Revolver with the desirable 4 3/4 inch barrel in .38WCF (.38-40) caliber.  Serial number is 345162. The action is crisp and mechanically perfect and tight.   This gun has seen use but was well cared for. Screw are all clean and original.     This over 100 year old gun has aged gracefully.  Most metal shows antique patina smooth and clean. Very nice and readable on all the markings.  This is a Well preserved firearm.

Our Assessment: The Model 1890 was produced until 1919 when the model name changed to 90. It would prove to be the most successful repeating rim fire rifle for general all around shooting ever made by Winchester. Approximately 849,000 Model 1890/90 rifles were produced between 1890 and 1932. This rifle will shoot only the .22 WRF round, which has a flat-nose slug, and is identical to the .22 Remington Special (which differed only in having a round-nosed slug). It uses a flat-based, inside-lubricated bullet, which differs from the outside-lube slug of the .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle, as well as the Winchester Magnum Rimfire. This is an acceptable example of a great gallery gun in a neat caliber.
