La Jolla- Via Varese by Andre Andreoli, Oil on Canvas La Jolla- Via Varese by Andre Andreoli, Oil on Canvas

La Jolla- Via Varese by Andre Andreoli, Oil on Canvas

Lot #20 (Sale Order 4 of 32)

Appraised at $4500  Andre Andreoli was born in Amsterdam, Holland on November 25th, 1944, as he himself said, however on his death certificate it says 1933.  His father whom he loved very much was President of an American Company, General Tire and Rubber Int. in Amsterdam so he was a naturalized American.  There were 7 brothers and sisters.  Andre's Royal Crest is registered in Holland, however he told me that his father's family originated from Milan, Italy.

His main artistic inspiration as a child was visiting the Museums of Europe.  He studied architectural drawing at the University, however he was predominately self-taught. When his father passed away, he moved to the US, Akron, Ohio, and worked with his Father's brother's business.  He soon found out, he was not cut out for this business, and decided to start painting images of Italian facades because he always loved Italy. He was immediately popular, and sold them right away. He lived in Los Angeles, CA, and was with the Greg Juarez Gallery, and then  the Hammer Gallery in NYC, and then Wally Findlay Int. He was also with the Florence Art Gallery, and lived with his wife in Florence, Italy, at Villa Malenotti.

Andre immediately developed his own unique style, sense of color. He sold paintings to many celebrities, socialites, and famous people such as Johnny Carson, Hedy Lamar, Andre Andreotti, and many others. He could never keep a painting on the wall, they were sold as soon as he painted them. He had an extraordinary ability to focus on details for long periods of time. He was ingenious in his natural and spontaneous ability to paint both Italian facades, and Dutch winter scape paintings, as he never took a painting lesson in his life.

He had movie star looks, with a very friendly, warm personality which attributed to his popularity.  After painting all day, he would spend his evenings working on inventions. He and his wife lived in Palm Beach, Florida.

Written and submitted by Pamela De Fina who lived with/was married to the artist for 16 years.

Andre Andreoli, the painter, was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 25 November 1933. He died in 2001. His parents were U.S. citizens, his father being president of a subsidiary of an American company.

Andre had five brothers and sisters. After schooling in Amsterdam, he, a U.S. citizen, was drafted into U.S. Army. Upon completion of military service he resided mainly in the U.S., Italy and the Netherlands.  His painting techniques were mostly self-taught.

Written and submitted by Joseph Andreoli, brother of the artist.

John Balloue, Born 1948 in Richmond, California. Registered tribal member of the Western Band of Oklahoma Cherokee.John has achieved national acclaim and recognition for his work."Having a Cherokee father and a English/Irish mother and not being raised on a reservation, art is my way of understanding, keeping alive and honoring my Native Ancestors. Painting in a realistic style for over 30 years, in 2003 I needed to try something new. I began experimenting with color and texture to create a more contemporary look and feel to my work. Now much of my work is more innovative and experimental in nature. Color is the primary means in which the change has occurred. Color is said to be a barometer of emotion and the strong use of color is reflective of a passionate approach to painting. Besides it just looks cool!"- John Balloue

Today Levin/Basiste is still best known for his bar, dance-hall, art-scene and other many-figured scenes of social commentary. Levin's works are not realism in any sense, but rather satirical and expressionistic, with deliberate distortion of form and color for emotional effect. Levin/Basiste has had many exhibits.

28in. tall 26in. wide. Says Howard Terpning. 0623 BRIT

Terpning has become one of the most lauded painters of Western art today and is considered by many a national treasure. He is amongst the rare group of artists to see his work sell for over a million dollars in his lifetime. This is not only a rating of the mastery of his skills as an artist, but of his employment of them to allow the viewer to experience the deep respect for people and nature that drives his art.
Born in Illinois and educated at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and the American Academy of Art, Terpning first gained attention through his advertising and editorial illustrations. His vision became the force behind such classic movie posters as The Sound of Music Dr. Zhivago and the 1967 re-issue of Gone with the Wind. Always a Marine, Terpning answered the call again, making combat patrols around Da Nang with a camera and sketch pad for the Corps in Vietnam during 1967, but his love of the West and Native American traditions fueled his transition to fine art. He has become known as the Storyteller of the Native American because of his devotion and respect for the Plains Indians.
