Lot 701- 1967 FORD MUSTANG 289 V8 Lot #701 (Sale Order 18 of 104) The 1967 model year Mustang was the first significant redesign of the original model. Ford's designers began drawing up a larger version even as the original was achieving sales success, and while 'Iacocca later complained about the Mustang's growth, he did oversee the redesign for 1967.'[48] The major mechanical feature was to allow the installation of a big-block V8 engine. The overall size, interior and cargo space were increased. Exterior trim changes included concave taillights, side scoop (1967 model) and chrome (1968 model) side ornamentation, square rear-view mirrors, and usual yearly wheel and gas cap changes. The high-performance 289 option was placed behind the newer 335 hp (250 kW; 340 PS) 390 cu in (6.4 L) FE engine from the Ford Thunderbird, which was equipped with a four-barrel carburetor.

Lot 702- 2001 SUZUKI DRZ 400D DIRT BIKE Lot #702 (Sale Order 19 of 104) Back when the Yamaha YZM400 project first hit the news, Suzuki had its own superthumper project going. We had heard the rumors and had talked to people who had made prototype pieces for the project bike, but Lump’s gut always obscured the lens of the Dirt Bike belt-buckle cam. Then Yamaha introduced the YZ400F and another shocker, the WR400F, forcing Suzuki and other manufacturers to work that much harder on their own projects. The 400cc replacement for the DR350 slipped into oblivion as Suzuki revamped its effort and aimed it squarely at the WR400F.
Well, the wait is over! Suzuki not only unveiled its answer to the WRF, it unleashed three models on a four-stroke-hungry world. The kick-start DRZ400 is intended for full-blown racers, while the DRZ400E offers electric starting for more casual trail riders, and the DRZ400S satisfies the dual-sport need for speed. Predicting that most folk would opt for the happy button, Suzuki built four DRZ-Es for every kickstart model. So, we ended up with an electric-start model for this initial test. Let’s pop the hood!
HEART OF THE BEAST
Like the WRF, the DRZ400E has a dual-overhead cam head fed by a Keihin FCR 39mm carb, and the bore and stroke are 90.0 and 62.6mm, respectively (the WRF is 92×60.1mm). However, the DRZ has four valves, not five, and there isn’t a detuned California model. The good news is that you don’t have to cut any throttle stops, as with a California WRF or RMX.
Both DRZ400s have a huge stainless-steel muffler that is more choked off than European DRZs, but power is surprisingly linear in stock form. It’s easy to loft the front wheel for trail obstacles, and Lumpster digs its extended wheelie abilities. It even revs out fairly well. The DRZ is an effective mountain and woods machine in stock tune and should be left stock for use on public lands, but an aftermarket pipe is a must for more competitive applications. Stock, the DRZ400 doesn’t have the low-end snap of the XR400R, much less a YZ426, so it feels more like a KLX300. An unstopped WRF with YZF cam timing is faster than the stock DRZ400 on top, so the Suzuki falls between the XR400 and WR400 in top-end power.
Ours being an electric-start model, it has a couple of differences from the non-E. The DRZ-E has a longer left crank to clear the starter clutch and larger charging system. Also, the kick-start model has a hot-start button, and the E doesn’t. DRZ-E owners can add the insurance of a back-up kickstart kit (MSRP $199), as the battery is a tiny, sealed 6.5-Amp unit that rides under the left side panel (calling for a different rear fender than the un-E). Suzuki left the kicker off of the E to save weight.
BEYOND THE MOTOR
Suzuki obviously took great pains to make the DRZ400 handle better than the WRF. The seat and tank junction is much flatter on the Suzuki, making it easier to slide forward for corners. And steering is lighter on the Suzuki, so it feels like it’ll run circles around the Yamaha on tight trails. Even though our electric-start model is eight pounds heavier than the kick-start-only WRF, it feels 20 pounds lighter on the trail. The DRZ turns effortlessly and tracks well.
TACKLING TRAILS
We tested the new Suzuki on the tightest and gnarliest trails we could find here in Southern California, and Malcolm Smith guided us on some of the trails used on his annual trail ride on the Soboba Indian Reservation. The 49mm conventional fork picks up rain ruts, roots and rocks without transmitting the jolt to the rider, as does the Showa piggyback shock. Malcolm couldn’t wait to try the DRZ on his trails in Colorado, and it should prove excellent in Eastern woods.
Damping is soft, as the fork springs are 0.44Kg/mm, and the shock has a 5.3Kg/mm coil. Stock clicker settings are 14/10 (comp./reb.) out on the fork and 12/10 on the shock. Since both fork clickers have 18 clicks, total, compression adjustment is near the end of its range. Fight bottoming with more fork oil (720cc translates to 122mm stock oil height) before going to stiffer springs. The shock is a little stiffer, being at the halfway point of the range (26 total compression and 21 rebound). Overall, travel and action are comparable to an XR400R, and the ride is much more “loose” than the WRF. It?s fun to flick around on the trails, and it has a very light feel.
WORTH THE WAIT
While the DRZ400E engine sounds very much like a sewing machine in stock trim, it’s definitely a very good woods bike, bone stock. It has very friendly power delivery, is deceptively fast and has feather-light handling. It turns, wheelies and tracks well and feels way lighter than a WR400F, even with an electric starter! It’s almost a cross between an XR400 and WR400, and hop-up potential is unbelievable, what with Yoshimura spearheading Suzuki’s GNCC race effort. The DRZ-E is so cool, we can hardly wait to get the kickstart version and build our very own Kiedrowski replica!

Lot 767- 1988 CENTURY ARABIAN BOAT Lot #767 (Sale Order 85 of 104) I bought this 1988 Century Arabian from the original and only owner this spring. The boat had been used seldom in the past 3 years and needed a cleaning, some repair to the rear seat framing, and a new sterndrive. I purchased and installed a brand new sterndrive from Crowley Marine (3099.00+S&H) and installed it and finished up the rest. I followed the 10 hour break in procedure for the new drive exactly and the boat performed great. I bought a new OEM cover from A&A Marine in Manistee MI (850.00), a new full engine freshwater cooling system from Orca Marine in Bellingham ($2100.00+S&H) and new exhaust manifolds and risers ($650.00). These are still on the original unopened box and are included in the sale. On the 4th of July we left the boat moored at a dock in Long Lake and a leaking hose caused the boat to sink, stern first is shallow water. The water reached the drivers seat bottom and the engine was under water, the dash and forward was not. I had the boat home by 11am, pulled the spark plugs, pumped the crankcase, pulled and cleaned the carb, added oil with seafoam and started it up. By 11 pm I had made the 4th oil change and there was no water in the oil. The engine still will run but I cannot stand by it and it will need a long block. I pulled the sterndrive and inspected it for water intrusion and it was not compromised. The boat was dried and upholstery was taken apart, dried and put back as needed.

It starts with ease. Every single electrical item was inspected, all of the switches now work, the lights, everything was cleaned and made safe. History: Longtime residents, owners of the best Pizza Deli's in the Valley, have enjoyed the car hobby for decades here in Southern Oregon. The XKE was purchased in the 80's from a repair shop in Ashland, Oregon for an outstanding repair bill, long before Jaguars were thought of as collectable with value. According to the story, it was a random conversation on an airplane flight that led to finding the Jag. Soon after, it was brought home in boxes as a long-term project. Over the years, the previous owner worked on the car with help from local shops and suppliers. Paint was applied most likely in the late 80's and the car were enjoyed all of these years, mostly locally with a couple of longer trips at the beginning of its stewardship. There are no records of any work done at the time and the one that would know most passed about five years ago. The car had not been driven much the past fifteen years, mostly brought out for parades and the such. The normal course of events was the car starting the event under its own power but brought back on a trailer by the end of the day for one electrical gremlin or another. Finally, it was parked and started on occasion, the last time about 2010.

Lot 776- 1967 MASERATI MISTRAL ALLOY COUPE Lot #776 (Sale Order 94 of 104) This 1967 Maserati Mistral is an alloy-bodied coupe that was completed on November 24, 1965, and sold new in Italy before being imported to the US. The car was acquired in 1984 by its current owner, with whom it has since remained in Delaware. Power is provided by a numbers-matching 3.7-liter DOHC inline-six that has been fitted with triple side-draft Weber carburetors and is paired with a ZF five-speed manual transmission. Finished in red over tan leather, the car also features servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, independent front suspension, Borrani wire wheels, rear occasional seats, a cargo compartment shade, a rear minibar, and an AM/FM radio. One of approximately 830 Mistral coupes built, this Tipo AM109 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with an owner's manual, a jack, and a clean Delaware title in the owner's name that lists the car as a 1967 model. With fastback styling by Pietro Frua, the Mistral coupe was introduced at the 1963 Turin Motor Show and remained in production for seven years alongside a spyder variant that arrived in 1964. Construction incorporated either aluminum or steel bodywork built by Turin coachbuilder Maggiora over a steel box-section frame. This example wears an older repaint in a lighter shade of red than its original Rosso Capannelle, and imperfections in areas of the finish, such as chips, cracking, and flaking, are shown up close in the photo gallery below. Borrani wire wheels are secured by three-eared knock-offs and wear 185R16 Firestone Cavallino Sport 200 tires that are said to have been mounted in 2017. Girling disc brakes at each corner utilize three-piston calipers, which were resealed in 2018 during service that also included replacement of the master cylinder and booster. Suspension comprises a coil-spring double-wishbone front setup and a leaf-sprung solid rear axle along with tubular shock absorbers and anti-roll bars at both ends. The cabin is trimmed in Senape leather over seating for two with matching upholstery over the door panels, console, rear cargo area side panels, and rear seats, the latter of which were optional equipment for the Mistral model. Portions of the leather have been re-dyed and present in a brighter shade, and cracking is exhibited on the seat surfaces. Additional features include tan carpeting, a factory-optional retractable rear cargo compartment cover, a black leather-trimmed dash, gray shoulder belts, and a Panasonic AM/FM push-button radio. A minibar trimmed in black upholstery has been added on the rear shelf and is equipped with shot glasses. The wood-rimmed steering wheel sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 300-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline flanking gauges monitoring coolant temperature, amperage, fuel level, oil temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 18k kilometers (~11k miles), about 2,500 of which have been added by the current owner. The 3.7-liter inline-six features an aluminum block with cast-iron cylinder liners, an aluminum cylinder head with hemispherical combustion chambers, dual overhead camshafts, and twin-plug ignition. Triple Weber carburetors were installed several decades ago in lieu of the original Lucas fuel injection system. Service in 2019 is said to have included a cleaning and resetting of the distributor, fabrication of replacement carburetor plumbing, dipping and sealing of the twin fuel tanks, installation of a Malpassi fuel filter and Facet fuel pump, replacement of the fuel lines, fuel hoses, and cooling hoses, a coolant flush, and a tune-up. Number *580* is shown stamped on the block above, matching the chassis number, and can also be seen stamped on the cylinder head in the gallery below. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a ZF five-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the throwout bearing has started to make noise. A new dual-outlet exhaust system is said to have been fabricated using Quicksilver components in 2019.
