An 8½"x 11" color Mercury 13 emblem printed on a sheet of paper and signed by 5 of the 13 women selected as astronaut candidates. The five who have signed are Jerrie Cobb, Rhea Woltman, Wally Funk, Sara Ratley and Jerri Truhill. These women underwent the exact same screening as the Mercury astronauts and were selected for their flight experience. They were all later disqualified as astronauts when NASA made the rule about having to have jet experience. Excellent condition. Estimated Value: $40 - $50

A vintage 8"x 10½" Manned One-Day Mission Mercury Spacecraft Specification Document dated April 23, 1962 from MSC at Langley, and containing about 90 pages of illustrations and information. The Mercury spacecraft was being modified for a full day in space. According to the distribution list in the back, there were only about 150 copies of this document made. Excellent condition. Alan Shepard Signed MR-3 Tracking Chart

A large 35"x 72" (about 3ft x 6ft) color foldout Mercury-Redstone MTC (Mercury Tracking Chart) dated February 1961 showing the track of Alan Shepard's MR-3 Mercury spacecraft during its suborbital flight. The track originates at the Cape and continues on past the Bahamas. The map is signed by Shepard just offshore of the launch site, and he added, "Freedom 7". A very rare map and a great signature. A 10" tall by 5" diameter at the base clock given to Mercury astronaut Gordon Cooper on his MA-9 post-flight tour. The plaque on the figure reads, "Presented To Major Gordon Cooper By Royal Order Of Jesters... 1963". The clock is battery operated an does not seem to work, but can be easily repaired. Deke Slayton's Mercury-Redstone Tie Pin

A vintage, almost 2" long Mercury-Redstone rocket tie pin complete in its original presentation case, and formerly from the personal collection of Mercury astronaut Deke Slayton. It is gold in color (could actually be gold even) and has an attached chain on the back. It comes with a 4"x 5½" Certificate of Authenticity card signed by Slayton's wife Bobbie attesting to the fact that it belonged to Slayton. Excellent condition and rare. I have never seen another Mercury-Redstone pin such as this one - who knows the story behind it? Estimated Value: $100 - $150

Deke Slayton's 13"x 22" certificate and Testimonial awarding him the title of Honorary Mayor of Sparta, Wisconsin, his birthplace. The certificate is dated December 23, 1959 and obviously was a victim of the infamous flood in Slayton's Texas home. Folded horizontally in 3 places and faded and a bit tattered along the edges. An original report to NASA from McDonnell Aircraft Corp. dated 27 July 1967. It reports on the Gemini program Financial Status for contract NAS 9-170 (the contract number of McDonnell from NASA). It contains 28 pages of financial graphs and complete breakdowns on expenses incurred by McDonnell in manufacturing the Gemini spacecraft. It looks like by the date above, the Gemini program had cost the over 641 million dollars at a point of 99.78% completion. Interesting document and in excellent condition with the cover letter intact. Estimated Value: $75 - $100

It consists of about 140 pages with 8 chapters and 4 appendixes, and the chapters include Project Gemini, Titan II Weapon System, Vehicle Description, Pre-Flight Test & Checkout, Flight Sequence, Systems Descriptions, Launch Complex 19 and Gemini Spacecraft. Some age spotting on the cover, but compared to most of these I've seen, this one is in very nice condition. Estimated Value: $150 - $200

Rare Gemini Star Chart

A 7"x 9" flexible plastic star chart used by Gemini crews for assistance in guidance and navigation. The entire star field is shown along the celestial equator with important navigational stars shown in bold. This star chart is not mission-specific, presumably since all Gemini missions stayed in earth orbit and the star fields remained the same. A bit faded, discolored or washed out along the edges I suppose from handling over the years, but it has no bends, creases or tears. Used in training for the Gemini astronauts. Extremely uncommon. Estimated Value: $200 - $250

Mechanical Pencil Used In Gemini Simulator

A 5½" long mechanical pencil used in the Gemini Mission Simulator, and was removed after training was complete. The simulator used the exact same equipment as did the actual spacecraft, and this pencil is no exception. Heavily used in training by the Gemini astronauts, and it is still in working condition. Velcro remains at the top of the pencil for use in attaching it to the spacecraft panels. Nice shape. Gemini artifacts such as this are quite rare. Estimated Value: $100 - $200

Gemini RCS/Cooling Valves Spacecraft Panel

A 3-1/4"x 4" lightweight metal panel removed from the Gemini Mission Simulator after training was completed. The simulator used the exact same panels as did the actual spacecraft. The position of this panel in the spacecraft is shown in color on a Gemini controls layout drawing - in an overhead position. Heavily used in training by certainly most the early Gemini astronauts, it does show a bit of wear from that fact. Gemini artifacts such as this are quite rare. Estimated Values: $300 - $400

An 8" long Cabin Air Recirculation lockable valve handle removed from the Gemini Mission Simulator after training was complete. The simulator used the exact same valve lever as did the actual spacecraft. The position of this valve lever in the spacecraft is shown in color on a Gemini controls layout drawing. Heavily used in training by all the early Gemini astronauts, it still looks to be in excellent condition. Gemini artifacts such as this are quite rare. Estimated Value: $400 - $500

Gemini Spacecraft Waste Storage Bin

An original 10"x 14"x 3" Waste Storage bin that was attached to the Commander's bulkhead of the Gemini spacecraft in the Gemini Mission Simulator. All equipment used in the simulator was exactly the equipment used on the actual spacecraft. This metal storage bin has two separate stitched flaps held down with velcro, and a lockable swing bar for holding things in place in the weightless environment. This bin no doubt was mainly used for the incidental waste during a flight, like food packaging. The storage bin is shaped to fit nicely into the spacecraft's curved interior. A drawing of a Gemini interior is provided to show the position of this storage bin. The bin was probably used by most of the Gemini astronauts during training, and was salvaged at the end of the program. Extremely rare. Estimated Value: $1000 - $1500

Martin Jacket Bearing 3 Rare Gemini-Era Patches

A vintage Gemini-era Martin Company jacket, size 40L. The Martin Company dealt with the Titan rockets used to launch the Gemini spacecrafts. The jacket bears three rare patches, all in the shape you'd expect from a jacket being washed numerous times. The first is an original Gemini 11 mission patch. All original Gemini patches are rare, but the Gemini 11 patch is probably the least rare of the bunch, although it is still very hard to find. Still nice shape though. The second patch is a Martin Company logo patch, of which I have only seen two ever, making it quite scarce. The third is an original Gemini Program patch, of the type I have only seen twice before. This is the earliest blue variety and exceedingly hard to find, even though this one has lost a bit of its background color from the washings. The jacket itself is discolored along the collar, and has a few stain spots in various locations. However, the three rare patches make this a wonderfully historical item. Three heavy 3-1/4"x 8" Gemini 10 and 11 EVA Preparation cards attached together by a metal ring and used for EVA training in the Gemini Mission Simulator at the Cape. These cards were first used by John Young for Gemini 10, and then by Pete Conrad for Gemini 11 and were used for the umbilical EVA by the Pilot, and the topics on the cards are Unstow & Attach, Egress, EVA Sequence and Ingress. When Conrad took over as Gemini 11 Commander in the simulator after Young's Gemini 10, he crossed out Young's name on the card and added his own. Annotated on the cards by Young (blue marker). There is a velcro strip on the back of each for conveniently sticking them to a spacecraft panel. Used condition obviously, but still totally intact. There is a fourth card attached that is blank. Apollo Handmade Wooden Clock

A handmade heavy wooden Apollo program clock with 12 inset Apollo mission medallions representing the numbers on a clock. The Apollo 11 medallion is missing but can be replaced. The hour and minute hands are thin metal Saturn V rockets - one a bit larger than the other. The clock is 13½" in diameter and 3/4" thick and is made of one-piece construction, including the orbit rings. The inscription on the back of the clock is dated 1973 - the year in which this clock was given away for Father's Day. Two wooden orbit rings circle an engraved lunar surface with Apollo landing sites marked. When new batteries are installed, the clock runs for only a couple minutes before stopping; however, the mechanism may just need a good cleaning. The clock mechanism can just as easily be replaced as well. Excellent condition and extremely attractive. Estimated Value: $100 - $150

It contains 1078 pages in 13 sections, and the sections are Introduction, Physical Data, Orbital Mechanics, Pertubations, Satellite Lifetimes, Maneuvers, Rendezvous, Orbital Departure, Satellite Re-entry, Waiting Orbit Criteria, Orbit Computations, Guidance and Control Requirements and Mission Requirements. Full of explanations, equations, calculations, tables, charts and graphs, and in excellent condition. Rare. Volume II is the Lunar Flight Handbook similarly in a heavy protective binder and hand-stamped the same, 1963. It contains 739 pages in 12 sections, and the sections are Introduction, Physical Data, The Earth-Moon System, Trajectories in the Earth-Moon System, Earth Departure, Earth-To-Moon Transfer, Lunar Orbit, Descent to and Ascent from the Lunar Surface, Moon-To-Earth Transfer, Earth Return, Mission Planning and Bibliography. Full of explanations, equations, calculations, tables, charts and graphs, and in excellent condition. Rare as well. Since there were no powerful computers or calculators in the 1960's, all calculations contained in the volumes were done by hand with a slide rule, and contained in these two volumes was all the information that made the space program a success. The first manual is a Validation of the Polarity Checker Preliminary Document dated 11-07-66 (49 pages), the next is Ascent Stage Fit Checks dated 6-17-66 (about 20 pages), the next is Spacecraft Handling and Transportation dated 11-15-66 (about 50 pages), the next is Ascent Stage Descent Stage Mating dated 11-15-66 (about 20 pages), the next is Receiving Inspection Checklist dated 11-15-66 (about 40 pages) and the last is again Validation of the Polarity Checker dated 12-1-66 and presumably the final version of this document (about 30 pages). Full of illustrations in the front, but then mostly procedures and data. This Lunar Module handbook is still in nice shape. LM-2 was a Lunar Module that was to be tested in an unmanned Apollo, but the LM-1 mission was so successful, the LM-2 mission was cancelled. LM-2 was used for ground testing prior to the Apollo 11 mission, and now resides on display in the Smithsonian. Quite a rare manual. Two early, large Apollo Operations Handbook manuals, Volumes I and II, for Apollo Command Module SC-014 (spacecraft 014). The manuals are from North American Aviation and are dated 17 October 1966. SC-014 was a Block I sister ship to SC-012, the command module that was destroyed in the Apollo 1 fire. SC-014 was dismantled piece by piece during the investigation into the cause of the fire. Volume I is about 500-600 pages with loads of foldouts, flow charts and illustrations. Sections include Spacecraft, Systems Data, Controls and Displays and Experiments. Nice shape. Volume II is about 400 pages of procedures, data, plots and information with some huge panel foldouts in the back. Nice shape as well. Both volumes are scarce for sure. An Apollo 1 Apollo Operations Handbook manual for Apollo Command Module SC-012 (spacecraft 012) which was the Apollo 1 Command Module. The manual is from North American Aviation and is dated 12 November 1966, which is about 2½ months before the fire which killed astronauts Grissom, Chaffee and White, and destroyed the SC-012 spacecraft. The Operations Handbook contains about 850 pages of foldouts, procedures, data, plots and information with a huge CM panel foldout in the back. Sections include General Information, Systems Data, Controls and Displays, Performance, Experiments and Scientific Equipment Data, Crew Personal Equipment, Normal/Backup Procedures, Malfunction Procedures, Experiments Procedures, etc. Section 9, Page 49 of the Malfunction Procedures section deals with Fire/Smoke in the CM, and states that a fire can be extinguished by depressurizing the cabin. The checklist is dated February 7, 1969 and contains 16 sections of checklists for performing the LM-3 EVA in Earth orbit. The sections can be seen on the yellow title page, but some include EVA Prep, Final Prep, EVA Hardsuit Checklist, Post EVA Cleanup, etc. About 50 heavy-stock two-sided pages (about 100 total) which are annotated off and on throughout by the astronauts, some heavily annotated. These procedures were no doubt rehearsed during the Apollo 10 lunar orbital mission. A bit faded and spotted with age, and used in the simulator no doubt by Stafford and Cernan, but still good shape. The word "OLD" is written on the front and back, so this card was probably either replaced by a more updated version before launch, or was discarded after the mission. Rare. It consists of a very large total of 110 maps contained on 55 two-sided sheets, all dated June 1969. All the maps contain a grid system for easy pinpointing of lunar surface features. This manual was used for training at Houston's MSC, and was the Master Copy of George Colton, the head of the Flight Planning Branch. Excellent condition. *UPDATE* At the astronaut autograph show at KSC this weekend (Nov 7/8) I showed this manual to Buzz Aldrin and several other knowledgeable people and the notations inside have been determined to be in Armstrong's hand. There are about 5-6 pages where he has annotated inside. A vintage 5"x 8" Apollo 11 Flight Crew G&N Dictionary manual dated May 29, 1969 and used in mission training for the astronauts. There are several pages containing annotations, and the formation of the letters looks like it could be from Armstrong's hand. It contains about 65 two-sided thick paper stock pages (130 pages total) of Apollo 11 G&N information (Guidance and Navigation). There are many AGC program code sections including nouns and verbs, and other sections such as Start Charts, Alarm Codes (including the famous ones), Planet Vectors, AGS Activation, AGS Programs, Flag List, LGC Clock, etc. A bit faded with age on the front cover and on a couple tabs, but overall excellent condition. This relief map depicts a portion of NASA's precise lunar topographical model which was an integral part of the Lunar Module Simulator. A bit faded with age and there are tape remains in the corners from it being displayed. Otherwise excellent condition with no bends, tears, dings or scratches that I can see. Very uncommon. The lunar chart has 20 'pages' and measures 10½"x 160" (over 13 feet long) and is circular in nature, meaning the two ends have been taped together to make one, long continuos chart. The chart shows the Apollo 13 CSM orbit tracks across the lunar surface for revolutions 3 and 12, and shows the Apollo 13 landing site in the Fra Mauro region near Fra Mauro D, as well as scores of craters and landmarks. Additionally, someone has written in red the spot of the Apollo 11 landing site. The map is a first edition dated March 1, 1970, for an April or May 1970 launch. A vintage 3-ringed 6"x 8" Apollo 13 LM Contingency Checklist dated March 16, 1970 on the first inside page. The flown copy, an exact duplicate of this manual, probably came in handy during the mission. It contains 26 tabbed sections of at least 100 pages of LM contingency checklists and procedures on heavy stock paper. Heavily annotated with pencil in many places, probably by Lovell and Haise. Some of the tabbed sections are Docked DPS Burn, Docked APS Burn, 30-Minute Activation, Staged and Unstaged Power Down, Gimbal Trim Chart, Loss of Comm, Emergency Power Down, Fire/Smoke in cabin, Abnormal Vehicle Dynamics, No Auto Engine Shutdown, etc. This checklist was used by the Apollo 13 crew during training for the mission, and was the designated copy left in the crew quarters for after hours reference. This checklist details, in set procedures, what to do in all cases of an emergency in the Lunar Module. Manuals such as this are quite rare and are the exact types flown with the astronauts on the missions. The checklist is a bit curved, possibly from being carried around in a spacesuit pocket, and was used at the time, but otherwise nice condition. Estimated Value: $1000 - $1500

A vintage 8½"x 10½" Apollo 13 CSM Lunar Landmark Maps manual consisting of 69 total lunar maps, of which 3 are long foldouts, and 3 data sheets. The maps are montages of the lunar surface showing landmarks and craters along with views of the Apollo 13 landing site in the Fra Mauro region. Included in the 69 maps are a total of 16 lunar surface obliques showing the approaches to the landing site. Foldouts show the descent path of the Apollo 13 Lunar Module to the lunar surface. Of the 69 maps, 50 are made of a plastic-type material that does not crease or tear, while 19 in that back are paper maps. Most of the plastic maps are two-sided (counting as two). This booklet was for use in crew training and this was a copy kept for the crew in their Crew Quarters for after hours reference. Complete with its front and back covers, and all the maps are contained with three metal rings. Very excellent condition with some blue marker annotations inside. These high-quality map books were not commercially available, but used specifically for lunar mission crew training and are extremely limited in number. Rare. Estimated Value: $1000 - $1500

These cue cards were heavily used by Lovell and Haise, and also their backups Young and Duke, in the Lunar Module Simulator for training, and are the exact same types of cue cards carried in the Lunar Module on the mission. Included is an EVA 1 Prep & Post Card, an EVA 1 checklist which is two 8"x 10½" cards hinged by tape, and on the back is the Post EVA 1 checklist. Apollo 14 LM Orbit Monitor Chart

A vintage Apollo 14 circular LM Orbit Monitor Chart, although this closely resembles a CSM chart. The lunar chart has 20 numbered 'pages' and measures 10½"x 160" (over 13 feet long) and is circular in nature, meaning the two ends have been taped together to make one, long continuos chart. The chart shows the Apollo 14 CSM orbit track across the lunar surface for revolution 13, and shows the Apollo 14 landing site in the Fra Mauro region near Fra Mauro D, as well as scores of craters and landmarks along the way. It also shows the Apollo 12 landing site a little further on. The map is a first edition dated November 23, 1970, for a January 31, 1970 launch. Excellent condition and quite uncommon. This particular map was used for training and was kept in the Crew Quarters for after-hours reference (see "QTRS" in the legend). Estimated Value: $200 - $300

A vintage cardboard-like Apollo 14 Lunar Module Rendezvous Attitude Resolver in the shape of a teardrop, 8½" in diameter horizontally and dated November 23, 1970. One side is labeled "Heads Down Rendezvous" and consists of two clear plastic dials and a pointer over a graph showing all 360 degrees, and the other side is labeled "Heads Down Rendezvous" containing the same set of plastic dials and pointer. Used in training by the Apollo 14 astronauts in the event of rendezvous computer failure no doubt. Handwritten on one side is LMS-2, which is the Lunar Module Simulator at KSC (Houston's LMS is #1). Apollo 14 LM Lunar Surface Maps

An original and vintage 8½"x 10½" Apollo 14 Lunar Module Lunar Surface Maps book consisting of 36 Fra Mauro area lunar terrain maps and 13 EVA traverse maps (49 total). All the maps in this book are made of a flexible plastic material - the traverse maps in quite heavy plastic, heavier than the others. The maps are montages of the lunar surface showing landmarks and craters around the Fra Mauro region. The 13 traverse maps, including a couple showing the traverse to the edge of Cone Crater, show detailed paths and planned stops for EVA-I and EVA-II, and most have velcro on the backs for attachment to the cabin panels. On the back of all but one of the traverse maps there is a detailed list of tasks to be performed for each traverse segment shown on the map. This booklet was for use in Apollo 14 crew training, and were no doubt handled by Shepard and Mitchell. The front cover has experienced a bit of fading with age, but the plastic maps are all in excellent condition. Complete with its front and back covers, and all the maps are contained with three metal rings. Not a commercial item, but used specifically for Apollo 14 lunar mission crew training. Used for training in the Lunar Module Simulator by Apollo 14 astronauts (LMS-2 has been scratched out on the cover), it is still in excellent condition overall. The tab ends are a bit faded with age, but the pages are still in great condition. There are approximately 75 heavy-paper stock pages containing about 150 pages of data (two-sided). Extremely rare. Stuart Roosa's Apollo 14 Landmarks Mapbook

A large 20"x 24" Apollo 14 Landmarks mapbook for training, formerly belonging to the Apollo 14 Command Module pilot Stuart Roosa, who has written his name at the top of the front cover. This landmark mapbook consists of three heavy paper stock 20"x 24" lunar surface maps and one glossy map, each with numbering annotations on them - probably by Roosa himself. The front and back heavy cardboard covers are faded with age, and there are remains of masking tape used to secure the large mapbook together, however, all the maps appear to be in nice condition. No doubt used by the Apollo 14 crew and Roosa in particular during training. This type of mapbook was used for training only, being much too big and heavy for taking onboard. This one may be one of only a few of these left in existence. Estimated Value: $750 - $1000

Lunar Module Simulator Apollo 14 Landing Site Plate

A large 36"x 37" lunar surface plate showing the landing site of Apollo 14 that was used in the Lunar Module Simulator for training. The plate is made from high quality modeling paste and contains an exact high-relief replica of the lunar surface at the Apollo 14 landing site, the surface over which the simulator camera panned over to simulate a lunar surface approach and landing. Using various lighting and filtering techniques, this plate was made to look like the actual landing site with the expected lighting conditions and view for the astronauts looking out the LM simulator windows. The plate shows the landmark craters Doublet and Triplet used by the Apollo 14 crew to determine their landing target, and a photo of the those craters on the lunar surface has been provided. There are various small nicks and scuffs, mostly from the camera ramming the plate after a power blip in the LMS, and the plate weighs about 10-12 pounds. This plate was one of several used in the Simulator for training, and is very possibly the only one salvaged after the Apollo program. Put this under glass, and this item can possibly be made into a great coffee table with some recess lighting. Extremely rare and an important piece of lunar landing history. The star chart is dated April 19, 1971 for a launch date of July 26, 1971 (the Apollo 15 actual launch date), and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface immediately after landing. Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. Since on the lunar surface it is difficult to determine direction and distances accurately with the naked eye, this device was used to plan a traverse away from the Lunar Module and to safely return, and it is equipped with lunar shadow data as well. It is dated 6-18-71 and the dial can be rotated to the exact positions of landmarks such as Hadley Delta, Mount Hadley and Bennett Hill. Used no doubt by Scott and Irwin in training in the field outside the Crew Taining Building at KSC. It is faded light brown all around due to the glue used to make it, and much of the glue has released. The paper on the back has separated from the heavy cardboard base, but can be easily reattached. A 6"x 8" Apollo 15 LM Lunar Surface Checklist dated July 14, 1971 and consisting of 19 tabbed sections including EVA 1 Prep, EVA 1, EVA 1 Post, EVA 2 (Prep and Post), EVA 3 (Prep and Post), Launch Prep, One Man EVA Prep, Emergency Liftoff, Manual Ascent, etc. Complete procedures, switch positions and checklists for each activity. Heavily used in training by Apollo 15 astronauts and in fact, Irwin's name appears written on the front cover, and then lined out. Some data entry numbers and annotations penciled inside. The tabs are a bit worn, but the pages are still nice condition. There are approximately 75 heavy-paper stock pages containing about 150 pages of data (two-sided). It looks like this copy changed hands a bit - first as a copy kept in the Crew Quarters, then for training in the Lunar Module Simulator, then as Irwin's property, and finally again back in the Crew Quarters. Robert Parker's Apollo 15 Orbit Monitor Chart

A vintage Apollo 15 circular Orbit Monitor Chart that belonged to astronaut Robert Parker during the crew's training for the mission - Parker's name along with Quarters has been attached to the map's legend and then later crossed out. Parker was a member of the Apollo 15 Support Crew during this time. The lunar chart measures 10½"x 144" (12 feet long) and is circular in nature, meaning the two ends have been taped together to make one, long continuos chart. The chart shows the Apollo 15 landing site in the Hadley region and Hadley Rille, as well as scores of craters and landmarks and the PDI approach of the LM. The map is a first edition dated May 3, 1971, for a July 26 launch. Excellent condition and quite uncommon. The chart shows the sun and planets in color to differentiate them from the background, and important navigational stars are numbered, highlighted and oversized. The track of the Apollo 16 CSM across the star field is also show in color. The lunar star chart reads at the bottom "LM Lunar Orbit Star Chart, April 16, 1972 Launch" which was the launch date of Apollo 16. Also represented on the chart are the 3 stars named by Gus Grissom after the Apollo 1 crew, Navi (Ivan backwards, Gus' middle name), Regor (Roger backwards, for Chaffee) and Dnoces (Second backward, for Ed White the Second). This Lunar Orbit Star Chart was used in training by the crew and is marked on the back LMS 13A, meaning it was used in the Lunar Module Simulator (LMS) for training. There is a bend and crease in the middle from poor storage, but can possibly be made non-apparent when it is flattened out. No rips or tears. Very uncommon for any mission. The star chart is dated September 4, 1972 for a launch date of December 6, 1972 (Apollo 17 - actual launch date was Dec 7), and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface immediately after landing. The checklist consists of about 45-50 pages in 22 tabbed sections of procedures and switch positions for complete CSM to LM transfer and Lunar Module activation. Tabbed sections include TLC Day, Transfer List, IVT to LM, Housekeeping, Telemetry Activation, Comm Activation, PDI Day, Rate Gyro Check, RCS Press, Landing Gear Deploy, and many more. Some annotations appear inside, no doubt by Cernan or Schmitt during training. An extremely rare checklist and in used, but still nice, condition. A significant piece of Apollo history. Large Apollo 17 Lunar Landmarks Training Book

A large 21"x 21" Apollo 17 Land Mark Training Book consisting of seven large 20"x 20" glossy photos of the lunar surface near the Littrow area. Each photo has a transparent overlay marking Apollo 17 lunar landmarks and orbit tracks. All the photos appear to have been taken during the Apollo 15 mission and used at this time for training the Apollo 17 crew. Most of the maps show the Sea of Serenity and one includes the Apollo 17 landing site. The front and back heavy cardboard covers are faded with age, and there are remains of masking tape used to secure the large mapbook together, however, all the maps and transparencies appear to be in excellent condition. No doubt used by the Apollo 17 crew during training. These used used for training only, being much too big and heavy for taking onboard. This one may be one of only a few of these left in existence. It is silver in color and is complete with its backing. It comes with a 4"x 5½" Certificate of Authenticity card signed by Slayton's wife Bobbie attesting to the fact that it belonged to Slayton.
