Untouched Direct Vet Estate SD Heer M40/SE66 Helmet With 1/2 Basket Untouched Direct Vet Estate SD Heer M40/SE66 Helmet With 1/2 Basket

Untouched Direct Vet Estate SD Heer M40/SE66 Helmet With 1/2 Basket "Chicken Wire"-Named

Lot #10 (Sale Order 11 of 288)

Stellar and 100% original direct from vet estate example! M40 single decal with later field gray repaint. The decal exhibits wear from the wire and/or the soldier trying to slightly subdue it. Correct application and correct period twist 1/2 wire zinc galvanized wire which exhibits all the correct signs of age old reactions to where the strands touch. The front of the helmet visor exhibits finger wear from the soldier removing and replacing the helmet on his head! The rear flange has the soldier's white hand painted name in old German "Gothic" lettering and exhibits yellowing and age crazing. We have shown this helmet to several experts who have handled original helmets that have the original PERIOD applied wire and this example meets all the points. The WW2 vet had originally stored this helmet in his garage before moving it into his office for display after the war. We guarantee this helmet to be 100% original and that the wire basket has been in place since the original German Army soldier with the name of "GUNDLING" configured the wire basket. These wire helmets were most often configured later in the war as the Luftwaffe started thinning out and wasn't able to provide as much air support for the ground troops. This example also doesn't exhibit signs of the wire having been used for foliage. Again, this is a direct vet estate acquired example and is guaranteed to be completely original and of the period.

WWII German Cross In Gold-Wehrmacht Issue Cloth Version-Scarce Maker

Lot #11a (Sale Order 13 of 288)

In excellent overall condition and appears to possibly been uniform removed. The circular 1941 dated wreath still retains most of the original factory gold finish. The number 9 in the date exhibits the correct die flaw. Ribbed white rayon blend center exhibits very little soiling. The field gray wool/felt backing material exhibits some period wear and a few small spots of insect tracking. This version is attributed to the scarce/uncommon maker of "C.A. WESTMANN, DRESDEN" having the slightly more narrow Swastika arms.

Scarce Early 3rd Reich Scarce Early 3rd Reich

Scarce Early 3rd Reich "Hilfspolizei" Lower Sleeve Armband For Auxiliary SS/SA Police Units

Lot #48 (Sale Order 59 of 288)

Early 3rd Reich period example with printed block lettering. There are 2 official issue stamps. These thinner armbands were worn on the lower left sleeve just as a cuff title would have been worn. Here is a little history: "Hermann Göring, newly appointed as Interior Minister of Prussia, established the Hilfspolizei on 22 February 1933 to assist regular police in maintaining order and later in handling communists in the wake of the Reichstag fire. The organization quickly spread from Prussia to other German states and Hitler endorsed it in the Reichstag Fire Decree. The units were staffed mainly by members of Sturmabteilung (SA) and Allgemeine SS wearing SA or SS uniforms with a white brassard. It is estimated that the auxiliary units had 25,000 SA and 15,000 SS members. The units also included members of Der Stahlhelm veterans organization (Der Stahlhelm). The force carried out or organized numerous violent attacks against Nazi opponents and staffed the early Columbia and Dachau concentration camps. The SS-Totenkopfverbände grew out of this formation. The force was disbanded in August 1933 due to international protests that the units violated the disarmament provisions of the Treaty of Versailles, Adolf Hitler's growing distrust of SA, and outliving its purpose during the consolidation of the new Nazi régime."

2pcs Combat Worn-Iron Cross 2nd Class W/Ribbon "128"- Panzer Assault Badge.

Lot #53b (Sale Order 67 of 288)

EK 2 is 3pc construction with ribbed silver frame and iron core with black finish. Maker stamped "128" on the hanger ring for the firm of "S. Joblonski GmbH, Posen". Joblonski is one of the more uncommon makers of this award and is seldom, if ever, encountered. The ribbon exhibits combat tunic wear and soiling. The Panzer Assault badge is not maker marked but has the characteristics of a late war produced example by Steinhauer & Luck having the horizontal hinge crimp and a ? catch also attached using the crimp method. The finish is virtually non existent but does appear to have very light trace remnants of a bronze finish in a couple of the recesses and on the hinge/pin assembly. There is a crack/separation on the barrel side of the wreath as shown in the photos. This badge is also a combat tunic worn example.

Rare! German Border Customs NCO/Officer's Dove Head Sword W/Short Wing Eagle

Lot #58a (Sale Order 73 of 288)

In excellent overall condition. Early production example still retaining a lot of the original gold gilt finish. Details are excellent. The blade is maker marked with the WKC Knight logo. The cross guard exhibits the short stubby wing eagle. The model 1016 sword by WKC has the exact eagle and cross guard details but is a lion head pommel. This example is a Dove Head. In researching this particular style of cross guard eagle a couple of other examples we were able to find, indicated this was the style worn by Police Border Customs NCO/Officer's. The mirror bright blade is in excellent condition exhibiting a few very minor surface scratches and age spotting. The black painted scabbard finish exhibits moderate age crazing and minor "spider veining". Rare and seldom encountered sword!

In excellent overall condition example of an uncommon variant.

Short Model Spear Point Bayonet W/Faux Stag Grips/Scabbard/1936 Dated Brown Leather Frog

Lot #85 (Sale Order 109 of 288)

In excellent overall condition. Faux stag plastic grip plates are nicely fitted. The 8" spear point steel blade exhibits very moderate scratching and scuffing and is unsharpened. The letters "H Sch" have been period "burnished" onto one side of the blade, which brings us to the story from the vet...The WW2 vet was with the 13th Armored Division and parts of the Division entered an abandoned Hitler Youth Training Camp where he found this bayonet. This could quite possibly denote the meaning of the burnished lettering..."H Sch"="Hitler School"? The 1936 dated frog is about as close to unissued/unused as you will find! Stitching is strong. Rare! German Officer's Dress Sword- Rare! German Officer's Dress Sword-

Rare! German Officer's Dress Sword-"WKC" Model 1056 W/Eagle Device-Monogram

Lot #85a (Sale Order 110 of 288)

By far one of the more desirable 3rd Reich swords produced! The blade has the WKC Knight logo and this style with the applied down winged eagle device is listed in the WKC WW2 period catalog as model 1056. The eagle is separately attached to the langet with 4 folded over prong "rivets" and is nicely centered and gives the cross guard a unique 3D styling. It still has traces of the original factory gold gilt finish. The reverse langet has a nicely engraved 2 initial monogram "HA". The black celluloid triple wire wrapped grip is crack free and exhibits a bit of very minor shrinking just where it meets the back strap of the dove head grip. Details are crisp and the hand detailing is excellent. A lot of the original factory gold finish still remains throughout. Mirror bright plated steel blade is nearly flawless exhibiting only very minor scratches and scuffing. There is one pencil point size nick that is evident on the cutting edge and the blade tip exhibits an ever so slight "blunting". The black painted scabbard exhibits a couple of very small superficial indents and possibly has been period factory repainted..possibly... Rare example of a style sword that seldom, if ever, comes on the market and this example is straight out of a U.S. Army vet's estate.

WW2 Kriegsmarine Officer's Lion Head Sword W/Scabbard-Scarce Plain Blade Variant-"E& F. HORSTER"

Lot #88a (Sale Order 114 of 288)

Early 3rd Reich period Kriegsmarine Officer's sword in excellent overall condition. Wire wrapped celluloid grip has toned nicely to a dark cream color. The hilt fittings and lion's head pommel are crisply detailed and still retain a lot of the original factory gold gilt finish. The anchor motif clamshell guard is hinged and functions smoothly. The reverse scabbard hinged locking plate also functions correctly and has a "50" number stamping. The matte finish steel blade is in overall excellent condition exhibiting light spots of moderate age staining and the normal superficial scratches and scuffs. This example has thew more uncommon plain non etched blade. Thus indicating that this sword having a plain blade and number stamping was an issued example versus a private purchased sword. The blade has the early lettered maker stamp of "E&F. HORSTER SOLINGEN" The scabbard is a leather body with brass fittings. The fittings have developed a nice even age patina and engraved details are crisp. The black finish of the leather scabbard body exhibits moderate normal light wear. There is one place in the scabbard that has been "dented" on each side and has weakened the rigidity at that place. While there is no separation evident, Care should be taken when the sword is removed from the scabbard as the scabbard will tend to "bend" at that spot slightly, so it needs to be handled with care as to not possibly break at that point.

Extremely Rare WW2 Kriegsmarine Extremely Rare WW2 Kriegsmarine

Extremely Rare WW2 Kriegsmarine "E-BOAT "Type Liquid Gyro Compass-By C.PLATH HAMBURG

Lot #89 (Sale Order 115 of 288)

Most of these WW2 period Kriegsmarine ships compasses are most assuredly at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean! This is a rare example of the type compass that most likely was used in service on board an "E-Boat". The outer black finish steel ring is crisply serial/model number stamped. It also has the Nazi Eagle with a stylized letter "M" indicating Kreigsmarine issue. The battleship gray enamel paint on the main body is believed to be period and original to this rare compass. The fluid level inside the compass appears to be at the correct level and if not only slightly low. The interior white Bakelite/Plaskon rotating gyro functions correctly and appears to measure the East/West, North/South Directions accurately. The gyro has a small center "nib" that seats into a "cup" at the end of the lower center shaft to keep the compass ring stable and centered. Upon closer examination, the clip that keeps the "nib" in the cup has deteriorated slightly and if the compass were to be turned on it's side could possibly cause the upper compass ring to detach but could be "wiggled" back into its proper seating. Just wanting to let the winning bidder know that that scenario could possibly happen if not handled properly during shipping as the weight of this rare compass is 21+ pounds. In house pickup is available by appointment.

RARE! Late WW2/Early Post War Grand Cross Of The Knights Cross W/Original WW2 Period Ribbon RARE! Late WW2/Early Post War Grand Cross Of The Knights Cross W/Original WW2 Period Ribbon

RARE! Late WW2/Early Post War Grand Cross Of The Knights Cross W/Original WW2 Period Ribbon

Lot #105 (Sale Order 133 of 288)

This early Grand Cross Of The Knights Cross is from a U.S. veteran's estate. There isn’t much info out there detailing specifics, but it does appear that there were a few different manufacturers that submitted their particular designs with the firm of C.E. Juncker being the more prominent manufacturers. 3 piece construction with crisply detailed ribbed silver 2 piece frame with .800 hallmark on the reverse at the top of the frame. The frame flange almost appears to have had a gold gilt finish applied and is most likely just the silver content age old patina. The magnetic iron core appears to be brass plated with matte black finish. The center Swastika has sharp edges and is nearly flush in height to the beaded frame. Dimensions and weight appear to be in the correct range for period/early post war examples weighing 66.1 grams with the hanger loop included. The detail is extremely crisp. The ribbon suspension frame loop is hallmarked .800. The hanger loop soldered to the center top frame goes slightly deeper into the frame creating a slight "trench". The ribbon is an original WWII period example and the width measurement is within the parameters of known period examples. The last photo exhibits an original example attributed to C.E. Juncker with an estimated value of 80k!! The following quote is taken from an excerpt from an article by military historian William Stump from 2014: "A few examples exist, some of which have gilded frame rims. If we assume that the gilding is not a postwar enhancement, this detail further supports the Godet thesis. Twenty or so examples are prepared for approval, some of which have the gilding specified in the original Reichsgesetzblatt of 1.9.1939. The gilded crosses are rejected and consigned to a box in the Ordenskanzlei des Führers." Here is the link to the full article: https://wcstumpmilitaria.blogspot.com/2011/10/grand-cross-of-iron-cross-1939_13.html We have had a couple of knowledgeable experts pertaining to these type of late war Grand Crosses and the consensus is that it is either an original very early post war example by the firm of Steinhauer & Luck or one of the early higher quality examples produced by the firm of Rudolf Souval. In any case, this Grand Cross is an extremely desirable example and we recommend to the bidder to do their own research to determine value and/or rarity. These early and highly detailed Grand Crosses are just about as rare as the late war period examples and are seldom, if ever, offered to the collector market!

RARE! WW2 Pacific Theater Landing Craft/Ship RARE! WW2 Pacific Theater Landing Craft/Ship

RARE! WW2 Pacific Theater Landing Craft/Ship "LST-559" USN "ENSIGN 11" 48 Star Battle Flag

Lot #113 (Sale Order 143 of 288)

Extremely rare and original Invasion landing battle flown Ensign #11 48 star flag and taken off LST-559 or one of the LCVP boats assigned to LST-559. by USN MOMM2c Milden Sanford Lester. Lester served on board LST-559 during the capture and occupation of the Southern Palau Islands Sept.6-Oct. 14, 1944- The LEYTE Invasion Landings Oct. 18,-Nov. 4 and Nov. 19-29 1944 and the and LUZON/LINGAYEN Invasion Landings Jan. 4-18 1945. Lester received the Purple Heart at some point for wounds received during one of these invasion and most probably was while LST-559 participated in the OKINAWA GUNTO Assault And Occupation April 1, through April 9, 1945 and due to limited information we determined LST-559 sustained battle damage during this campaign/invasion as the battle lasted until June 22, 1945. At some point Lester Transferred to LSM-424 (Landing Ship Medium) which participated In the OKINAWA GUNTO Assault and Occupation from June 8, through June 30, 1945. (The family stated that Lester took/was given the Ensign #10 flag flown from LSM-424 after the invasion-This Ensign is offered in Lot #114 of this auction) A photocopy of Lester's DD-214 discharge is included with his dog tag, one of his MOMM2c rate patches, a USN Amphibious Assault patch and the battle damaged Ensign #11 48 star flag. So now lets discuss the battle damaged Ensign #11 48 star flag...The family was adamant that Lester took this flag off of the landing ship he was assigned as a Motor Mechanic which in this case was LST-559 (Landing Ship,Tank) This Ensign is tattered with shrapnel damage and tears throughout. This Ensign flown at the stern/aft of LST-559 just behind the diesel smoke stacks and caused the white stripes of the flag to become gray stained. This example Ensign is an earlier multi piece constructed version having each stripe and each of the 48 stars applied separately. Some of the later Ensigns that were issued were the printed versions. The original size of this Ensign 11 flag would have been Hoist Length 2.37ft and Fly Length 4.50ft. (54") After being flown during an invasion/s it now measures Hoist Length is same measuring 2.37ft or (28-1/2") and Fly Length is approx. 40" measured to the longest tatter making it approx. 14" shorter due to shrapnel/wind damage. Lester's single dog tag is included with his serial number which matches the DD-214 photocopy and a tetanus date stamp of "T 5/44". The patches from Lester's estate are his WW2 period Blue Jumper MOMM2c rate patch and one of Lester's original WW2 period USN Amphibious Assault patches (The other patch is included in lot 114 with the Ensign #10 48 star flag flown on LSM-424) and lastly Lester's DD-214 with his campaigns/medals list and ships served aboard information. Lester received the Purple Heart Medal/Ribbon, American Campaign Medal/Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal/Ribbon, WW2 Victory Medal/Ribbon and the USN Good Conduct Medal/Ribbon. The vessels/stations served at/on as follows: NTS (Naval Training Station) Great lakes, Illinois-NTS Urbana , Illinois-ATB (Amphibious Training Base) Portsmouth, VA-USS LST-559-ATB Camp Bradford, VA-ATB Little Creek, VA and then USS LSM-424. Lester was honorably discharged at Shelton, VA and was from Haywood County North Carolina. He went to Motor Mechanic school at the University of Illinois, Champaign, Illinois. This grouping is certainly museum quality and should be displayed as such!

RARE! WW2 Period USN 48 Star Ensign Size 12 Possibly From Leyte Invasion LCVP Assault Craft RARE! WW2 Period USN 48 Star Ensign Size 12 Possibly From Leyte Invasion LCVP Assault Craft

RARE! WW2 Period USN 48 Star Ensign Size 12 Possibly From Leyte Invasion LCVP Assault Craft

Lot #113a (Sale Order 144 of 288)

Possibly from the estate of USN MOMM2c Milden Sanford Lester as it came from the same multi family estate sale as the dog tag, patch and battle flown Ensign size 11 flag was acquired. After seeing the other items we have listed related to this estate, this Ensign was brought to us by a different consignor who was at the same multi estate sale . Lester was the Motor Mechanic On LST-559 and LSM-424. According to one story, it was remembered that Lester had mentioned to a friend that he had also taken a flag off of one of the "little boats" since he had taken the battle damaged assault flag from LST-559. (offered in lot 113). There were 2 LCVP assault craft assigned to LST-559, so it could make sense this is quite possible this is one of those flags. It certainly is the correct size Ensign that would have been flow on an LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) or commonly referenced to as the "Higgins Boat". This size Ensign was also the same size used on PT Boats during WW2. Multi piece hand sewn construction. Each of the very small stars have all been individually sewn. The lanyard is ink stamped "NAT ENS 12" There are 2 round grommets in each corner that are steel with a heavy zinc plating. The red wool stripes exhibit light bleeding into the adjoining white stripes. There is a small pick here and there but in overall excellent collectible condition. These Ensign 12 flags are extremely rare and are an excellent size for framing. A photocopy of Lester's DD-214 will be included which does show his service aboard LST-559 (Landing Ship Tank) and also LSM-424 (Landing Ship Medium) During the invasions of the Southern Palau Islands, Luzon, Leyte and Okinawa. Please see Lot 113 for the original Ensign 11 battle damaged flag taken off of LST-559 by Lester and the next Lot 114 for the Ensign 10 48 star flag taken off of LSM-424 by Lester.

Lot #114 (Sale Order 145 of 288)

Extremely rare and original Invasion landing Ship Medium (LSM-424) Ensign #10 48 star flag and taken off LSM-424 by USN MOMM2c Milden Sanford Lester. Lester served on board LSM-424 during the OKINAWA GUNTO Assault And Occupation laandings June 8 through June 30, 1945 after transferring from the battle damaged LST-559 during this campaign/invasion. The family stated that Lester took/was given the Ensign #10 flag flown from LSM-424 after the invasion. So now lets discuss this LSM Invasion Ship flown Ensign #10 48 star flag...The family was adamant that Lester took this flag off of the last Landing Ship he was assigned to as a Motor Mechanic which in this case was LSM-424. This example Ensign is an earlier multi piece constructed version having each stripe and each of the 48 stars applied separately. Some of the later Ensigns that were issued were the printed versions. This Ensign is in very good plus exhibiting some age yellowing and a few spots of what is possible shrapnel damage. The size of this Ensign 10 flag Hoist Length 2.90ft (Approx. 34.8") and Fly Length 5.51ft. (Approx. 66") The patches included are from Lester's estate and are his WW2 period white Jumper MOMM2c rate patch and one of Lester's original WW2 period USN Amphibious Assault patches (The other patches along with Lester's dog tag are included in lot 113 with the Battle damaged Ensign #11 from LST-559) and lastly Lester's DD-214 with his campaigns/medals list and ships served aboard information. WW2 Period USN 48 Star Ensign Size 9 Flag-Destroyer Escort USS Inch (DE 146) -Atlantic Theater

Lot #116a (Sale Order 148 of 288)

Possibly this this 48 star Ensign size 9 flag was taken off of the Destroyer Escort USS Inch (DE 146) by Coxswain/Boatswain Rayburn Seeley while the USS Inch was part of a German Submarine Hunter-Killer Group along with the Escort Carrier USS Croatan as this Ensign was acquired from the same multi family estate sale as other items offered in lot 116 but is from a different consignor. The USS Inch had the first of the ship's confirmed U Boat "kills" being credited with the sinking of U-490 on June 11, 1944. On July 3, 1944 The USS Inch sunk their 2nd confirmed U Boat (U-154). Seeley supposedly either was given this flag or took it before being transferred to the pacific Theater. Seeley served on board the Destroyer Escort USS Maurice J. Manuel (De 351). Although not present at the launch, Seeley was already on the crew launch list of the USS M.J. Manuel which was launched on June 30, 1944. later, in early 1945, Seeley was transferred to the Destroyer Escort USS Bivin (DE 536). This Ensign is multi piece construction with the typical early production 4 brass hoist grommets in the lanyard. There are a few scattered "picks" evident but is in overall excellent condition. It measures the standard Ensign size 9 dimensions of approx. 6.69 feet fly length and 3.52 feet hoist length. A photocopy of Seeley's DD 214 will be sent with this Ensign to the winning bidder for provenance. The DD 214 does indicate Seeley was awarded the European-African Campaign Medal as well as the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal. Please see the previous Lot 116 for more information about USN Boatswain's Mate 2c Rayburn Seeley.

Rare Early WW2 U.S. M1941 Artic Field Jacket-U.S. Army 90th Infantry Division Soldiers-Etc.

Lot #166 (Sale Order 199 of 288)

The contract/size label is not present but the stitch outline is visible at the interior collar. This jacket is an approx. size 40. Heavier construction than the standard M41 lightweight field jacket. Thicker water repellent/wind resistant outer cotton shell with thicker mustard brown kersey wool lining. Slash front pockets and adjustment straps on the cuffs and each side of the waist. These rare M1941 Artic jackets were made for wear as an over garment for additional warmth. U.S. tanker crews in cold weather war zones also preferred this type of jacket. In excellent overall condition exhibiting moderate combat field wear and soiling. 6 button front and a heavy duty CONMAR zipper assembly that functions smoothly. These original M1941 Artic Jackets rarely come onto the collector market and at this time there appears to be only one company that makes a fairly decent reproduction for reenactment. The last photo from the national Archives is of a 90th Infantry Division soldier with this type jacket in wear.

2pcs-Geheime Staatspolizei (GESTAPO) Identity Disc-Early 3rd Reich SA Event/Rally Badge-1935 2pcs-Geheime Staatspolizei (GESTAPO) Identity Disc-Early 3rd Reich SA Event/Rally Badge-1935

2pcs-Geheime Staatspolizei (GESTAPO) Identity Disc-Early 3rd Reich SA Event/Rally Badge-1935

Lot #221 (Sale Order 254 of 288)

The Gestapo ID Disc exhibits damage and glue repair. These discs were produced in 3 different "metals" with the early discs being silver and then later to steel. The 3rd type disc was made from a lighter and more brittle spelter/pot metal. This example exhibts good detail and wear to the high relief areas. It has been cracked and then glued back together but has been done many years ago as the glue has darkened. The details of the lettering and letter serifs are nearly spot on to original ID discs and the number font font is well articulated. All that being said, this is disc is more likely than not, an early post war reproduction. One of the main reasons being the number range puts the disc as having been in the range of being produced in the nickel silver metal. Most reproductions seem to have the RZM code on the disc which is always a for sure reproduction. This example doesn't have that. There are could be many speculations and/or assumptions that could be made that this is a period disc. One example...."The policeman who was assigned this number lost his? (not likely as that would have been a death sentence for sure!) Replaced his early version since it had become worn out and details weren't sharp anymore...:)" etc. Anyway, this disc certainly displays nicely! The SA event badge is thin stamped steel with a bronzed finish. It is a Nordmark Kiel Event Badge and dated 1935 with crisp details.

Rare U.S. Army 1943 Dated Experimental Ethocelulose Plastic Canteen W/Airborne Reinforced Cover Rare U.S. Army 1943 Dated Experimental Ethocelulose Plastic Canteen W/Airborne Reinforced Cover

Rare U.S. Army 1943 Dated Experimental Ethocelulose Plastic Canteen W/Airborne Reinforced Cover

Lot #228 (Sale Order 261 of 288)

This is an excellent rare example of an experimental Ethocelulose Canteen, complete with an original WWII dated Airborne reinforced strapping canvas cover. The canteen itself is marked on the bottom with U.S. / 1943 and a small maker logo that reads "AMOS". These canteens are very rare with known production to be less than 10,000. This example is exhibits moderate wear and NO stress cracks evident. The white powder like stains could possibly be from baking soda as soldiers would use that to help the water not have a plastic taste to it.The original black plastic cap and chain are present. The interior cork is not present on the cap. These were primarily issued to Pacific Theater troops. This example came to us from a collector who had acquired it years ago from the estate of an 11th Airborne paratrooper. The canvas cover is a true depot issue cover with reinforcing straps as issued to Airborne/Para Troops. The snaps function smoothly and the reverse is maker/date stamped "FOLEY MFG. CO. 1942" The original cup is snugly fitted into the cover and we did not examine it due to the tight fit and possible difficulty in removing/replacing it in the cover.

Early USMC "Rabbit Ear" Flap Canteen Cover W/Canteen/Invasion Landing Forces Modification

Lot #229 (Sale Order 262 of 288)

In excellent overall condition. Rare USMC soldier Invasion/Landing troops modification to the bottom of the canvas cover. A hole was cut out in the bottom of the cover and then had bar stitch reinforcement to prevent the hole from becoming larger. This was an uncommon but extremely practical for the landing force troops to drain the sea water out of the cover to prevent bogging down with extra weight as result of the cover being filled with the water. The canteen is maker/dated "G.P. & F. Co. 1945". Around the neck the USMC soldier has hand engraved his wife/girlfriend/mother's Etc. name of "mary" in cursive. Very unique and rare example!

Rare Early 2nd Pattern WW2 Period U.S. Army HBT Rare Early 2nd Pattern WW2 Period U.S. Army HBT

Rare Early 2nd Pattern WW2 Period U.S. Army HBT "No. 45C" Combat Jacket/Shirt-13 Star Metal Buttons

Lot #244 (Sale Order 277 of 288)

This rare early 2nd pattern variant is considered to be the 2nd pattern "First Special? HBT combat jacket without the later gas flap and the addition of 2 buttons under the rear of the collar. This was extremely short lived as it was only produced for one month (Jan.1943) and had the "No. 45C" designition on the contract tag. This example exhibits all 13 star metal buttons and no gas flap. There is evidence of where 2 buttons were at under the collar which was for the gas hood, but the buttons hve been period removed. One of the front closure buttons is missing. The larger front breast pockets are the expandable type with 13 star buttons. Above the left breast pocket there is a stitch shadow line where the original wider size WW2 period name strip has been removed. In overall excellent collectible condition exhibiting period combat wear and moderate soiling with a few small spots of staining. The contract tag is not present in the inner seam of the front right breast pocket but the size tag at the neck still remains denoting a size "34R". rare example only produced for 1 month!

10pcs-Rare late WW2 Prototype 10pcs-Rare late WW2 Prototype

10pcs-Rare late WW2 Prototype "Lazy Dog" Kinetic "Bomb". 1st Type Forged Steel W/Parkerized Finish

Lot #245 (Sale Order 278 of 288)

Extremely rare and desireable non explosive kinetic projectiles missing from most Ordnance collections! Each of these are the early forged steel production with a parkerized finish. These kinetic type "bomblets" were experimented with during WW2 and as early as 1941. The later types actually deployed and used during the Korean War and early Vietnam war were made of steel but turned on a lathe without a finish applied versus being forged with a parkerized finish as these examples are. These are the size of a .50 cal. bullet having a 4 fin steel base brazed to the bottom for trajectory guidance. The overall height is 1.75 inches and weight of each averages 18 grams. Th"Lazy Dog" projectiles were designed to be dispersed over the battlefield with Mark 44 cluster adapters. Lazy dog bombs were technically not bombs because they used no explosive, but were in many ways equally destructive reaching downward drop speeds of up to 500 mph and could penetrate as deep as 9" into concrete depending on the altitude they were dropped from. Designed initially for use in the Pacific Theater of war as they could penetrate the thick jungle canopy where enemy troops could be hiding. In researching, these are the rare 1st type. we found where 3 of these "Lazy Dog" kinetic projectiles sold at an auction for an amazing $650 hammer price! All are in excellent overall condition with thin metal fins still in their original "squared" form.

WW2 Period M1 Swivel Bale/Front Seam McCord Helmet W/ WW2 Period M1 Swivel Bale/Front Seam McCord Helmet W/

WW2 Period M1 Swivel Bale/Front Seam McCord Helmet W/"Shrimp Net"-Westinghouse Liner

Lot #248 (Sale Order 281 of 288)

The heat stamp appears to be "886P"…The letter "P" suffix is most likely a letter "B" with the stamping not coming through completely on the lower 1/2 of the letter "B" A McCord heat stamp of "886B" would indicate production sometime in March-May 1944 by McCord. (Of course if the letter suffix is actually a "P"...Parish Pressed Steel Company? Wishful thinking of course!) Original "M44 Shrimp Net" is in excellent condition and possibly British made. The Exterior steel shell finish is in excellent condition. The chin straps are the OD3 type with correct bar tack stitching and this example has the raised bar on the chin strap connector. The liner is WW2 period with a Westinghouse maker mark in the crown. Liner webbing exhibits moderate soiling and nape strap is stamped large. The "A" washers exhibit a parkerized finish. later WWII leather chin strap with blackened adjustment buckle. Fresh from WW2 vet's family yard sale several years ago.
