Richmond 1861 Harpers Ferry Musket

Is believed to be an example of the rifles assembled at Richmond Armory from the parts taken after the capture of Harpers Ferry, 1861 dated lockplate, stamped RICHMOND VA ahead of the hammer, Y/P/eagle proof mark on the barrel, heavy pitting around the breech with proof marks being faint on the barrel, has never been mortised for the Maynard tape primer, stock has been cut down with a later-applied repair piece, no components appear to have been manufactured in Richmond, but rather assembled from parts salvaged from Harpers Ferry, rear sight is incomplete missing leaf, correct-working hammer, areas of pitting and surface rust, heavy handling marks and pressure dents on the stock, cracks appearing behind the barrel tang, loss to the stock along the barrel channel, overall poor condition. 301 NR
