Muscarelli Auction receives opportunities to assist families in disposing of
family treasures and keepsakes, but seldom is there an opportunity to assist a
family whose loved ones have been active and serious collectors of exceptionally
high-quality items. The White estate is a rare find, and we are thrilled to share
with each of you the fourth and final installation of the liquidation of these objects.
Mr. White was an avid collector of clocks of all shapes and sizes; while Mrs.
White was an avid collector of dolls and doll accessories. This sale showcases the
width and breath of Mrs. White’s passion for her collecting.
Mrs. White loved her hobby and enjoyed sharing it with others. As a result,
more than two-thirds of this collection was attractively displayed behind glass in
the “doll room” at the top of the steps where she spent many hours arranging
tableaus and vignettes of her massive collection. These dolls are very clean and in
reasonably excellent condition. Many of the dolls from the 50’s and 60’s needs a
little “rubber band” surgery to reconnect all of their parts, as their old connectors
have failed with age. The collection that she amassed is overwhelming, even for
an experienced handler of dolls. The breadth of her collection included many
bisque dolls in various sizes from Germany and beyond, includes Simon Halbig,
Kestner, Armand Marseill, Handwerck and more. She loved Little Red Riding
Hood and the Big Bad Wolf and gathered hundreds of items about this old-time
tale of horror. She must have experienced wonderful memories of her marriage to
Mr. White, because she had brides and grooms of every shape and size, including
wonderful cake toppers and her wedding dress from years gone-by. There are
Barbies, Madame Alexander, Vogue, Effanbee, Mattel, Horsman, Ideal and too
many companies to name. IF you have any love for or knowledge of dolls, then
this sale is of interest to you!
This is a very special auction for all of us! Also included are hundreds of tea
sets of every shape and description. Exceptional doll furnishings, vintage and
antique books, and display items round out the sale! This auction has it all in the
doll world! You will NOT be disappointed in the items – remember, these items
are not available on other sites and will NOT be available anywhere again! IF you
like pieces that will expand your personal collection, then this sale has YOUR
name all over it! We can and are willing to ship small lots. We are happy to make
items available for your pursual as time permits.
Personal Note: Having catalogued this massive collection, I have enjoyed
“day dreaming” about Mrs. White climbing the stairs to the doll room to dress and
redress, fix hair, gently brush the dust away and remember fondly her childhood
and many of the things that she saw in her dreams. As opportunity presented itself,
she shifts her dreams to purchases that made her reality a wonderful pastime of joy
and happiness. She graciously shared her passion with nieces and nephews,
cousins, neighbors and others who expressed interest in things that mattered to her.
Mary and Henry, thank you for your patience, friendship and encouragement! My
regret and joy is that this massive collection is being scattered to others who share
her passion and remember well an era from our past.
