European Mameluke Sabre, 18th C. or Earlier Lot #8 (Sale Order 8 of 307) Expertly carved throughout the grip and pommel in iron with pommel open through and carved to either side, the grip is carved in iron at the split down it's half and intricately notched, the crossguard is carved with scenes of scrolling and a mounted armour to one side with a group of weapons carved to the other, the quillon are straight with a twisted band before the tips carved in an hexagonal shape, blade is curved and etched to one side with the word "VINCENZO", single edged blade with shallow wide fuller. 37 1/2"L, blade 32 1/4" L. All-Steel Indian Elephant Goad Combination-Dagger, 19th c. Lot #45 (Sale Order 45 of 307) 19th century all-steel Indian elephant combination-dagger, known as ankus or Indian elephant goad from South India. The goad is carried by the elephant driver known as a Mahout. The pointed tip and dual elephant trunk shaped protrusion to the face is double edged and inlaid to the remainder in silver decoration, the shaft has a series of iron rings and at the base features a pommel in brass. Carved brass pommel is in the shape of a lion head with a smaller lion protruding in pierced carving. The pommel can be unscrewed from the shaft revealing a stiletto like four sided blade for puncturing. Size overall 18 7/8" L blade 6 1/2" h x 5 1/2" w. Condition: Very good with detail remaining to the inlay throughout under original patina. Provenance: An early California art collector

Omani "Abu Fitila" Fluted Matchlock Long Gun Rifle, Circa 1600s and later Lot #55 (Sale Order 55 of 307) Middle East, Omani Maritime Empire, Circa 1600s barrel and iron mounts, stock probably later as the barrels were often reused due to their exceptional construction. Early fluted barrel being of fine construction and unique in form to the Omani Abu Fitila, constructed of steel multi-rounded and carved fluting with raised gilded sight to the flared muzzle tip, widening towards the breach and camber with a carved iron band inlaid in gold and silver and chiseled raised sight, hall mark partially pierced just behind band, remaining hardware probably original to barrel or period. Similar in construction and shape to the Indian Sind Region Toreador this long gun was actually an early Omani maritime Empire weapon used by the Naval power while in competition with the Portuguese and Britain for influence in the Persian Gulf. Intact framed cocoa leaf bag of fine woven fabric and vertical bands of classic scrolling in white, reds, and black dyed pigments. The remainder with fine tassels original to the bag and with light fraying to the top left section. Frame 17" H x 11" W, bag 10" H x 10 1/2" W Inca valued coca leaves as highly as gold. They used small bags of coca leaves to relieve symptoms of altitude sickness, headaches, sore throats, and upset stomachs.

Mumuye Helmet Mask, Nigeria Lot #144 (Sale Order 144 of 307) West Africa, Nigeria, Mumuye Peoples carved wooden horizontal helmet style mask with multi-colored ribbed design and a reddish mineral pigment. Such masks were known as grandmothers, or old women, with their orb-like round eyes, grooved hairstyle in relief, and open protruding mouth. These types of masks were used during the Vabong Initiation ceremony. Size 17 1/2" H x 8 1/4" W Pigmented and clay applied carved wooden mask meant to represent a female spirit in a masquerade called Vabo, which appears at funerals and other important occasions. The clay between the eyes have bright-red abrus seeds and a mirrored backing to the iris. The reverse edge is held with wrapped with fibers and rope to the top..
