FR-224 In 1896, the U.S. Treasury printed Silver Certificates with beautiful designs depicting educational motifs. Known as the “Educational Series,” each of these notes is a numismatic masterpiece. They’re also incredibly difficult to come by on the front, paired on the back with a first and only in U.S. currency: the portraits of BOTH George and Martha Washington!Due to their theme, these notes became known as “One Dollar Eds” and they feature much more than just History in the form of a reclining woman pointing towards a panoramic view of the Potomac River and Washington, DC with her arm wrapped around Youth represented by the figure a young boy. Besides the images of the Washington Monument and Capitol building, the United States Constitution can be seen on the right side of the bill. Additionally, the last names of important Americans are printed in wreaths that surround the front of the bill. Some of those listed include Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Fulton and Ulysses Grant. Most of the people were included because of their artistic, cultural, or scientific achievements. In the book 100 Greatest Currency Notes by Q. David Bowers, the $1 Educational Note is ranked #7

Series of 1928 two dollar notes were the first series of three years to feature a red seal on that denomination. The other years are 1953 and 1963. The other two years are much more common. Series of 1928 two dollar red seals come in eight different types. 1928, 1928A, 1928B, 1928C, 1928D, 1928E, 1928G, and 1928F. 1928 two dollar bills are typically found today in very rough condition. He served two non-consecutive terms as U.S. Treasury Secretary under three presidents. The series of 1902 Hugh McCulloch twenty dollar blue seal national bank was issued by national banks in all fifty states and even in Puerto Rico as well. National bank notes are different from other nationally printed currency in that they are printed specifically for each individual chartered bank organization. This assisted greatly in creating a system of bank notes that were the same across the country. This aided in travelers knowing what they were spending and receiving in change, rather than the times when each bank and state printed their own currency with their own designs. The National Bank Note system was abandoned shortly after the changeover to smaller size notes in 1929, making the third charter notes the last truly used issue of this kind. FR-2305 out of 65 Million Hawaii Notes Printed Only about 16% were $20 Hawaii's. It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Everybody in Hawaii was sitting on pins and needles. Were the Japanese preparing a massive invasion of the islands? If they did invade, they could use the millions of dollars in currency on the islands to buy war material. To thwart this, these $20 Federal Reserve Notes were sent to the islands. Each has a large HAWAII printed on the reverse. If the Japanese did invade, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "Hawaii" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

***Auction Highlight*** 1922 $10 Large Size Gold Certificate Grades vf+ Signatures Speelman/White (f Lot #10564 (Sale Order 68 of 389) ***Auction Highlight*** 1922 $10 Large Size Gold Certificate Grades vf+ Signatures Speelman/White (fc). FR-1173 It is hard to believe that large size ten dollar gold certificates were only issued in 1907 and 1922. The United States first printed gold certificates in the early 1860s. For some reason they never printed the ten dollar denomination until 1907. 1922 was the last year of the large size gold Certificate Currnecy. In 1928 paper money was changed to the size we are accustomed to seeing today. The portrait of Alexander Hamilton was used instead of the virtually unknown Michael Hillegas. Hillegas was the first treasurer of The United States. Perhaps if Hillegas had died in a duel then he would be better remembered today. All 1922 $10 gold certificates were signed by Speelman and White. Interestingly enough, there is a small variety for the series. Some notes have smaller serial numbers than the standard numbers. The small serial number notes do command a slight premium, especially in higher grades.

FR-1621* Granahan-Dilon When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are more scarce than notes with standard serial numbers and as such are widely collected by numismatists. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes . Silver Certificates were redeemable in Silver. One of their most distinctive qualities is the blue Treasury seal and serial numbers. These notes include an additional legend printed on the face that is not present on any other Federal Reserve notes. The legend states that Silver had been deposited in the Treasury and was payable on demand to the note’s bearer.

1935A $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii WWII Emergency Currency Grades vf+ Lot #10576 (Sale Order 77 of 389) 1935A $1 Silver Certificate Hawaii WWII Emergency Currency Grades vf+. FR-2300 Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau WWII Emergency Currency. It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Everybody in Hawaii was sitting on pins and needles. Were the Japanese preparing a massive invasion of the islands? If they did invade, they could use the millions of dollars in currency on the islands to buy war material. To thwart this, these $1 Federal Reserve Notes were sent to the islands. Each has a large HAWAII printed on the reverse. If the Japanese did invade, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "Hawaii" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

William Morris Meredith was an American lawyer and politician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury, during President Zachary Taylor's Administration Fractional or postage currency has a rich history. At the beginning of the Civil War people starting hoarding coins for their precious metal content. Coins became difficult to find because of the hoarding. People started to try to use stamps instead of coins as a means of commerce. The government decided to help ease the hoarding issue by issuing “paper coins” also known as postage currency or fractional currency. Fractional currency was first issued on August 21, 1862 and they were last issued on February 15, 1876. Three cents, five cents, ten cents, twenty-five cents, and fifty cents notes were all issued. Fractional currency is physically smaller than other United States money. It also does not have a serial number.

1959 United States Silver Proof Set 5 Coins Lot #10595 (Sale Order 92 of 389) 1959 United States Silver Proof Set 5 Coins. Proof Set sales in 1959 reversed the downward trend of the previous year, and jumped to a healthy 1,149,291 sets. Much of the reason for the increase can be attributed to the appearance of the new "Memorial" design on the reverse of the Lincoln Cent. Each set contained five coins: One example each of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Benjamin Franklin Half Dollar.Mintage: 1,149,291 setsAbout the sets: 1959 Proof Coins are found with Brilliant, Cameo and Deep Cameo surfaces. Brilliant Proofs are the most common; Cameo Proofs of any denomination are scarce, but Deep Cameo Proofs remain extremely rare. The Half Dollar is the most difficult to locate in Deep Cameo Proof, followed by the Nickel.Look for the rare Proof 1959 Doubled Die Obverse Quarter with doubling of the letters on "IN GOD WE TRUST". Beware of buying unopened 1959 Proof Sets. "Sealed" Sets are likely to contain substituted coins (and even non-coins). Flat packs should be examined for small tears or cracks in the pliofilm. Even a hole the size of a pin can let in oxygen or moisture, both of which will react chemically with the metal of a coin, causing unsightly spots.Original packaging: Each coin was sealed in its own compartment between two sheets of flat pliofilm. An octagonal foil seal imprinted with "US MINT PHILADELPHIA" was placed in a sixth compartment, and the flat pack was then inserted into a mailing envelope with a card.

SEALED 2007 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set 8 Coins Lot #10611 (Sale Order 106 of 389) SEALED 2007 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set 8 Coins. The 2007 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set is the first of the series that salutes past presidents of the US. In 2007, the US Mint began the Presidential Dollar series, featuring a president in an honorary portrait. Each president has his name engraved into the coin with their term dates as well. Similar to the Sacagawea Dollar metal content, the Presidential Dollars contain a copper core with a manganese brass coating, lending to the unique golden hue. Nowadays, the Presidential Dollars are sold by the roll, instead of individual coins due to the extremely low premium. The reverse features a proof-like picture of the Statue of Liberty, along with the coin's monetary value of $1. Learning from past experiences, the US Mint decided to keep a tight rope on the Presidential Dollar production and minted limited amounts for each year. The 2007 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set is rarely seen on the market, since it is the inaugural year for the dollars, and never stays in our inventory for long. The 2007 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set features the four Presidential Dollars that were first minted in 2007. These presidents include the legendary George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison. Each dollar can be easily popped out if using for a set. Both the Philadelphia and Denver mints are represented on these coins, allowing for an 8-coin set. The 2007 Presidential $1 Coin Uncirculated Set includes a patriotic folder, with a brief biography on each president, next to their dollar. This set begins the larger collection, helping collectors obtain these beauties without having to invest in an entire roll for just one coin. This collection is ideal for beginner collectors, history lovers, or anyone looking to have a fun and easy collection to look forward to.

251-253 AD Ancient Rome Trebonianus Gallus Antoninianus Graded au55 By ICG Lot #10635 (Sale Order 126 of 389) 251-253 AD Ancient Rome Trebonianus Gallus Antoninianus Graded au55 By ICG. Gaius Vibius Trebonianus Gallus (c. 206 – August 253) was Roman emperor from June 251 to August 253, in a joint rule with his son Volusianus. Like his predecessors, Gallus did not have an easy reign. In the East, an Antiochene nobleman, Mariades, revolted and began ravaging Syria and Cappadocia, then fled to the Persians. Persian Emperor Shapur I invaded Armenia and destroyed a large Roman army, taking it by surprise at Barbalissos in 253. Shapur I then invaded the defenseless Syrian provinces, capturing all of their legionary posts and ravaging their cities, including Antioch, without any response. On the Danube, Scythian tribes were once again on the loose, despite the peace treaty signed in 251. They invaded Asia Minor by sea, burned the great Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, and returned home with plunder. Lower Moesia was also invaded in early 253. Since the army was no longer pleased with the Emperor, the soldiers proclaimed Aemilian emperor. Gallus and Volusian were killed in August 253, possibly by their own troops.

1928A "Funnyback" $1 Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades Select AU Lot #10652 (Sale Order 139 of 389) 1928A "Funnyback" $1 Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades Select AU. FR-1600 Signatures Tate-Mellon These were the first notes to be called funnybacks. The reason they are called funnybacks is because of the unique design on the back of the bill. The word 'one' is printed in a "funny" font that is quite different from anything ever printed on a bill. This nickname is not exclusive to the 1928 series, as the 1934 one dollar silver certificate bills have the same back design so they are also known as funnybacks. Issued for less than a year, from April 1928 to January 1929, this $1 note was among the first small-size Silver Certificates. Although its face displays the sought-after blue seal marking it as a Silver Certificate, the back is what makes it so popular! The light green border and large, green ornamental ONE do not match the contemporary black-and-white face, leading to its nickname "Funnyback." Still considered legal tender though no longer payable in silver, this note is in great demand for its historical significance and unique design. With blue seal and serial numbers.

FR-2309 Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau. It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Were the Nazis under Field Marshall Rommel preparing a massive push through North Africa? If they did, and succedded, they could use the millions of dollars in currency the seized to buy war material. To thwart this, these Silver Certificates were sent to North Africa. Each has a yellow seal on the front. If the Nazis did succeed to over run our expeditiary force, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "North Africa" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find.

2007-2008 Zimbabwe Hyperinflation Third Dollar (ZWR) 100 Million Dollars Note Grades Gem+ CU Lot #10668 (Sale Order 151 of 389) 2007-2008 Zimbabwe Hyperinflation Third Dollar (ZWR) 100 Million Dollars Note Grades Gem+ CU. Hyperinflation in Zimbabwe is an ongoing crisis. While yearly inflation was often measured in the hundreds of percentage points in the early 2000s, from 2007 to 2008 it was measured in the millions, and then trillions. The first Zimbabwean dollar (ZWD) was abandoned in 2005 and replaced with the second (ZWN). The second had to be abandoned again in August 2008, and its replacement currency (ZWR) became obsolete due to ongoing hyperinflation only 6 months later, resulting in a third replacement currency (ZWL). The ZWL was formally demonetised in 2015, and Zimbabwe generally relies on a variety of foreign currencies for local trade.

**Star Note** 1963 $5 Red Seal United States Note Grades vf++ Lot #10672 (Sale Order 155 of 389) **Star Note** 1963 $5 Red Seal United States Note Grades vf++. FR-1536* Each 1963 five dollar red seal bill has serial number written in red ink. There is a red seal on the right hand side of the bill. All 1963 red seals were printed in Washington DC and feature a portrait of Abraham Lincoln in the center of the bill. You can also find the following wording on each bill, “United States Note, The United States of America, This Note Is A Legal Tender At Its Face Value For All Debts Public And Private, Will Pay To The Bearer On Demand Five Dollars” When notes are discovered that have been printed incorrectly (such as having the serial numbers upside down, etc.) the misprinted "error notes" are replaced with star notes because no two bills within a certain series can be produced with the same serial number. They are used to maintain a correct count of notes in a serial number run. By their nature, star notes are more scarce than notes with standard serial numbers and as such are widely collected by numismatists. Some of the highest prices paid for modern (post-1928) U.S. banknotes have been for star notes. Each 1963 five dollar red seal bill has serial number written in red ink. There is a red seal on the right hand side of the bill. All 1963 red seals were printed in Washington DC and feature a portrait of Abraham Lincoln in the center of the bill. All 1953 blue seal silver certificates feature a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. There is a blue seal on the right hand side of the bill. The serial number is also in blue writing. No 1953 five dollar silver certificate says In God We Trust. The following writing is on each note: “Silver Certificate This Certifies That There Is On Deposit In The Treasury Of The United States Of America Five Dollars In Silver Payable To The Bearer On Demand” “This Certificate Is Legal Tender For All Debts Public And Private” All 1953 blue seals were printed in Washington DC. Civil War Era Boston, Hartford & Erie Railroad $35 Note Grades Choice AU/BU Slider Lot #10696 (Sale Order 175 of 389) Civil War Era Boston, Hartford & Erie Railroad $35 Note Grades Choice AU/BU Slider. One hundred and fifty years ago, in June 1863, the Boston, Hartford & Erie Railroad was incorporated with the goal of forming a gateway to western markets for New England goods and of bringing coal from Pennsylvania into New England by way of Newburgh, New York, to Waterbury, Connecticut, and beyond. Its lofty goal disintegrated when it came under the control of “as ribald a bunch of crooks as railroad history has ever produced,” wrote D.W. McLaughlin in his article “Poughkeepsie Gateway,” for the October 1968 issue of the Bulletin of the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society. The railroad ran into a myriad of troubles, including the realization that building an east-west route across Connecticut would involve navigating the state’s ridge lines, the problem of aligning with the non-standard gauge of track on the Erie Railroad (the western line it would hook up with once the railroad cars crossed the Hudson River), and the lack of a bridge for which to travel over the river. That apparently did not stop the railroad’s promoters from selling stock in the line, which they proceeded to mercilessly raid and pillage. The legislature of the state of Massachusetts was persuaded to give $3,000,000 in grants, odd in that the bulk of the railroad didn’t actually travel in that state, as it went into Connecticut. By the time the graft caught up with all the players, in 1870, the railroad was in bankruptcy with a mere $10.00 left in its accounts, Massachusetts was out all of the money it invested, and very little actual railroad track was ever laid. The remaining assets were transferred to the receivers of the New York & New England Railroad, who rerouted the railroad line from New York City to Boston and eventually became part of the New Haven Railroad system.

1929 $50 National Currency The Federal Reserve Bank OF San Francisco, CA Grades Select AU Lot #10760 (Sale Order 220 of 389) 1929 $50 National Currency The Federal Reserve Bank OF San Francisco, CA Grades Select AU. Backed by bonds deposited with the Federal Government, this kind of money says “National Currency” at the top center of the note. These notes were issued by banks who received a Charter from the United States government allowing them to issue money. The All 1929 fifty dollar bills from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York will have a serial number that starts with the letter B. Each $50 bill will have four black “B”s stamped on it. This B signifies that the note is from the New York district. All 1929 bills are signed by EE Jones as the register of the treasury and WO Woods as the treasurer of the United States. Fifty dollar notes from New York are also signed by the deputy governor and the governor. Ulysses Grant is featured on all $50 Federal Reserve bank notes. The words president and cashier are either partially or completely blacked out on 1929 $50 bills from New York. You can find the following inscriptions on $50 bills from New York: National Currency – Secured By United States Bonds Deposited With The Treasurer Of The United States Of America Or By Like Deposit Of Other Securities – Will Pay To Bearer On Demand Fifty Dollars – Redeemable In Lawful Money Of The United States, At United States Treasury Or At The Bank Of Issue – Amer Septent Sigil Thesaur – Series of 1929 – Fifty Dollars – U.S. Capitol. Government Printing Office printed these notes with the same design except for the name of the banks, signatures of the bank officers and the Charter number. National Currency notes were made from 1863 to 1929. These notes were a way of creating confidence in an always shaky banking system. Member banks were required to deposit bonds with the government. The bank could then issue currency equal to 90% of the amount of the bonds. The financial panic of 1929 destroyed many of the National Banks and put an end to this system. There were more than 14,000 banks that issued National Currency and there are large numbers of avid collectors. The 1929 issue was the only “small size” issue, that is to distinguish from the “horse blanket” size notes of years previous to 1929. The note comes in two types. The Type I note has a brown seal with the charter number only in large black numerals. Type 2 notes have in addition the charter number printed with brown letters near the serial number of the note

2007-2008 Zimbabwe Hyperinflation Third Dollar (ZWR) 5 Billion Dollars Note Grades Gem+ CU Lot #10772 (Sale Order 228 of 389) 2007-2008 Zimbabwe Hyperinflation Third Dollar (ZWR) 5 Billion Dollars Note Grades Gem+ CU.

1899 "Black Eagle" $1 large size Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades vf++ Signatures Speelman/White Lot #10780 (Sale Order 234 of 389) 1899 "Black Eagle" $1 large size Blue Seal Silver Certificate Grades vf++ Signatures Speelman/White. FR-236 Ranked #16 in the 100 Greatest American Currency Notes, the Series 1899 Black Eagle note is from an era when paper money was backed by precious silver, as the issue bears the statement ONE SILVER DOLLAR PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND. It doesn’t take much work to figure out the nickname of the 1899 $1 silver certificate. A quick glance shows three vignettes, an eagle, Ulysses S Grant, and Abraham Lincoln. Somewhere along the way the collecting world decided that this note should be called a “black eagle.” The name has stuck. Whether you have been collected for a week or your entire life, you certainly know what a black eagle is. Grant and Lincoln often get overlooked. That might be for the best since both men are closely associated with several other large size pieces of currency. There are 12 Different Signatures combinations For this Type of note

Philip II, also known as Philip the Younger, was the son and heir of the Roman emperor Philip the Arab by his wife Marcia Otacilia Severa. Ancient historians say that Philip the Arab and Philip II were both killed in battle by Decius in 249. Modern historians say that when news of Philip the Arab's death reached Rome, Philip II was murdered by the Praetorian Guard at the age of twelve. Some argue that Philip II was sole ruler of the empire for the fall of 249.

63-64 AD Ancient Rome Nero & Eagle, Antioch Tetradachm Ancient Grades VF. Lot #11627 (Sale Order 270 of 389) 63-64 AD Ancient Rome Nero & Eagle, Antioch Tetradachm Ancient Grades VF.. Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus was Roman emperor and the final emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, reigning from AD 54 until his death in AD 68. Most Roman sources offer overwhelmingly negative assessments of his personality and reign. Most contemporary sources describe him as tyrannical, self-indulgent, and debauched. The historian Tacitus claims the Roman people thought him compulsive and corrupt. Suetonius tells that many Romans believed the Great Fire of Rome was instigated by Nero to clear land for his planned "Golden House".
