Details on Harry Mucklin Collection: He hunted the surface and also excavated sites from various places near the Delaware River from Port Jervis, NY to the North ridge of Rieglesville, PA, to the south and NJ and PA sides of the river. Unfortunately Mucklin did not catalog the collection with specific locations. He lived in Belvidere, NJ, Born May 5, 1902, died Dec 7. 1987 and hunted artifacts actively from 1920-1980.

This piece is an incredible example. The bowl has been gouged out and a small dimple where the hole would have been drilled connecting the stem and bowl. This has been undrille, however. It is also broken into 3 sections and glued back together. Based on the patina and several very small pieces missing from the glue, this was broken anciently.

History on the Charles Eckman Collection: Charlie was known as the "Mighty Warrior" and was a lifelong collector of local artifacts. He was also a highly decorated WWII combat veteran. He was employed by the Safe Harbor Water Power Corp and PPL's Holtwood Power Plant. Working at these locations allowed him to have access to many various sites along the lower Susquehanna River.

This piece has incredible history. First of all, it is the LARGEST axe that I have ever encountered from the US. This piece is well made and in great overall condition. This is a southern barbed axe and was found in June of 1926 by four students from the University of South Carolina in the proximity of a mound site near Simpsonville, SC on the Reedy River. This was donated to a museum in Myrtle Beach, SC where it resided until the museum closed in 1967 and contents auctioned. When originally auctioned by the museum, the axe sold for $8,000. This piece was then in the John Griffin Collection (Columbia, SC), Richard Baker (Atlanta Georgia), William Furr (Columbus, Mississippi) and lastly Walt Podpora Collection. This is massive measuring 18 1/2" long x 8" wide weighing in at 27.5 lbs. Do not miss out on this impressive axe! This axe has been housed in this large suit case for many years and will accompany this piece when sold. This sat on in the middle table on clear display in Walt Podpora's Axe Shed. A truly one of a kind, impressive piece!

Unfortunately Mucklin did not catalog the collection with specific locations. He lived in Belvidere, NJ, Born May 5, 1902, died Dec 7. 1987 and hunted artifacts actively from 1920-1980.

Information on the Miller Field Site, excerpt from Bulletin Number 48 March 1970 written by Herbert Kraft: Mr. Staats and I became acquainted in the summer of 1965. At that time he gave me permission to examine his collection and his records. Three significant facts manifested themselves during this preliminary investigation. First, there were post-molds in abundance, and some suggested patterns. The significance of these subsurface features rested in the fact that post molds and settlement patterns had consistently eluded archaeologists in New Jersey; the literature at least makes scant reference to them (Cross 1941:43, 138; 1956:197). Second, there was Contact Period trade material in some of the pits and burials, together with artifacts of Indian manufacture. Such trade material as had been found in New Jersey heretofore was located, for the most part, in the plow zone or under circumstances that were less than ideal. The glass bottle and beads, iron hoes and nails, copper sheet artifacts and gun flints found by Mr. Staats promised to shed important new light on this critical trade period. Third, the ceramic remains, both vessels and tobacco pipes, indicated a temporal range from early Point Peninsula to Late Munsee. Spatially, the ceramic influence embraced an area from the Mohawk Valley in New York to the Overpeck region in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and the Abbott Farm below Trenton. Distinctive tulip bowl pipes and diagnostic high collar vessels also pointed to the Susquehanna Valley in the west while Bowman's Brook pottery suggested an eastward extension to the Atlantic Ocean. Numerous diagnostic sherds promised a fair evaluation and identification of pottery types, and a correlation of such types with known ceramic tradition in New York State and Pennsylvania.

Walt’s artifact collection includes an impressive assortment of Pennsylvania and New Jersey artifacts as well as the rest of the northeast. Walt’s collection also had an emphasis on the midwest and central states. He is most known for his massive assortment of high-end axes and stone stools from across the country. Walt built an “axe house” to house his thousands of stone tools including axes, celts, adzes, pestles, mortars, soapstone vessels, spades, discoidals and more. In addition to stone tools, Walt’s collection includes some of the finest northeastern arrowheads, blades, bannerstones, pendants, gorgets and other stone implements. Included in this sale is his largest and favorite axe- a southern barbed style measuring 18.5", high end paleo, bannerstones, pendants, gorgets, projectile points, the famous Larry Fry Perkiomen (likely one of the best known examples in private hands) and much more.
