Spanish Chiseled Folding-Stock Flintlock Carbine, 18th C. Lot #1 (Sale Order 1 of 332) Excellent Spanish high art folding-stock miquelet flintlock carbine with Italian chiseled steel mounts in the manner of 1750. Barrel is 16 7/8" long and .69 caliber with octagonal breach, "wedding band" changing to round, muzzle ring and integral front sight. Fine quality "Patilla" miquelet lock with floral engraving and scrolling. Chiseled steel breech tang and steel surrounded in high relief with foliage. Side plate chiseled in relief to match. Trigger plate chiseled to match with no guard except when the carved stock is folded to accommodate. Dense Spanish walnut stock inlaid with three decorative chiseled steel plates. Very elaborate panel to entirety of the butt plate. All mounts matching. Barrel retained with two Spanish pierced openwork steel bands. Bore is fine and action is excellent. With original ramrod. Spanish Colonial Belduque or Peasant Knife, Borderlands Period 1519-1821 Lot #14 (Sale Order 14 of 332) Spanish peasant knife, all-steel knife with makers mark to handle and with a distinctive hook to the end of the tang. Connected to early Spanish settlements in New Mexico. The Belduque became very popular with the Plains Indians, in particular, the Comanche in the 17th and 18th centuries. One New Mexican governor demanded Rio Grande farmers to bring in their plow shears to be pounded into Belduques, to meet the demand at trade fairs at the Pueblos of Taos or Pecos at the edge of the Great Plains. Spanish American War Sword, L&G Cuba Bring Back Lot #60 (Sale Order 60 of 332) Fine Spanish American war period sword which saw use in Mexico and the Americas. The handle in horn with inlaid mother of pearl to either side with various losses. Good quality straight steel blade with a single edge and sharp upward edged point. Marked to the blade with the Bull & Banner over (Luckhaus & Gunther, Remscheid, A Garantia, 187). All original rare scabbard elegantly embossed with griffin and various scrolling below an embossed (L&G) to the top. Below the griffin (14) in a circle. Cased Brace of Box-Lock Percussion Belt Pistols by Richardson, Cork Lot #74 (Sale Order 73 of 332) Exceptional cased brace of Percussion Belt Pistols by "RICHARDSON, CORK" with accessories circa, 1835-1845. .50 cal. steel octagon 3.25" barrels with Birmingham proof marks and captive ram-rods mounted on an under mounted rib. Each pistol has a side mounted steel belt hook. All steel parts are engraved and case hardened retaining approximately 95-98% original fire blue and case hardened finish. Side mounted percussion hammers. Stocks are in excellent to near factory new condition with exceptional micro-checkering and each has a silver oval wrist escutcheon. Pistols are 8.5" overall length and in good working order. The original period box has brass corners, reinforcing stripes, single swing hook in the front, and a decorative brass escutcheon in the center of the lid. The interior of the box has been professionally restored/re-lined in the correct English green baize. Accessories include; bullet mold, pewter oil bottle, (2) " ELEYS " cap tins with caps, additional ram-rod with cleaning jag/ball puller, balls, wads, and a wonderful (3) compartment " SYKES " powder flask. British Over & Under Double Barrel Percussion Pistol by Pulman, Dorchester Lot #75 (Sale Order 74 of 332) Very good and well restored antique English over and under double barrel percussion pistol made by Pullman, Dorchester UK. Circa 1840's. Barrel 6", .56 caliber smooth-bore with decorative engraving on the top flat near the breech, a small "CROWN" over "GP" (Gun Maker's Proof) on the lower left barrel flat and a small "CROWN" over "V" (Viewed) on the lower right. Features double triggers. The all iron box-lock frame has very fine quality decorative engraving on both sides and maker signed on the top tang "PULMAN / DORCHESTER" with sliding bar safeties. All iron parts exhibit areas of light surface rust pitting and have been professionally cleaned bright. The rounded wood bag-shaped grip-stock has fine micro-checkering with a vacant rectangular wrist escutcheon made of silver. The iron butt cap has a concealed percussion cap reservoir. Iron captive swivel ram rod. A fine example (as restored) in good mechanical working order.

US M1836 Flintlock Pistol by R. Johnson 1843 Lot #78 (Sale Order 77 of 332) Good U.S. Military model 1836 flintlock service pistol by R. Johnson, 1843 which was converted to percussion for the American Civil War (1860-1865). Round .54 caliber barrel is 8.5" L and stamped at the breech with inspector's mark (JH) over (P) with a brass blade front sight. The lock is stamped with (US) over (R. Johnson) over (Middn Conn) over (1843). Captive steel ramrod. Stock has remnants of (2) inspector's cartouche's stamped on the left side of the stock at the rear of the side plate, and the number (82). The stock is solid with scratches and dings from years of service. All steel parts have light areas of salt & pepper pitting which was cleaned and coated with a thin layer of old protective clear varnish. The .67 caliber smooth-bore 13" steel octagon-to-round barrel struck on the left flat of the breech with an unidentified proof mark. The barrel's touch hole has been restored with a brass bushing. Heavy all brass furniture. Stock is solid with incised decorations. The convex banana shaped lock is unmarked. Wood ram rod with a flat brass tip. Long Barrel Pin-Fire Revolver Pistol, Belgian Proof 1810-1853 Lot #91 (Sale Order 90 of 332) Nice Belgian pinfire revolver with proof marks to the cylinder (ELG * ) in an oval. The barrel proof marked with (2*). Barrel is octagonal and rifled with another illegible proof to the left side and a sight half the length. A pinfire cartridge, a small pin protrudes from one side of the case. When the pin is struck by the hammer of the firearm the pin strikes a primer inside the cartridge causing a small primary explosion. That ignites the black powder inside the base of the cartridge and propels the bullet/shot. Size 10" L, barrel 5 3/4" L

Italian Carabinieri Bicorne Hat Lot #108 (Sale Order 107 of 332) Italian Carabinieri bicorne hat, tag mentions first half of the 20th century. Vibrant plume with red and blue over an Italian red, white, and green rondel of folded fabric under the flaming cannon ball. Originally founded as the police force of the Kingdom of Sardinia, the forerunner of the Kingdom of Italy. During the process of Italian unification, the Carabinieri were appointed as the "First Force" of the new national military organization. Although the Carabinieri assisted in the suppression of opposition during the rule of Mussolini, they were also responsible for his downfall and many units were disbanded during World War II by Nazi Germany. Both figures are primitively carved with matching details including slightly oversized and odd shaped heads, arms with incised linier details to show fingers, and very slender straight legs without feet, leading to the base they sit on. Depicted seated with arms resting on knees pulled to their chest. Holes in their heads where hair detailing would have been. Size of largest 17 1/4" H, size of smallest 16 1/4" H. Pair of Male & Female Ifugao Rice Gods, Bulul Lot #228 (Sale Order 227 of 332) Standing male and female Philippines rice god Bulul, each depicted standing naked on a pedestal, with arms at their sides. Small pierced eyes, with chiseled jaw lines, protruding noses and small slit mouth. The Bulul is touched by hands dipped in blood of a chicken or pig in a ritual called tunod during the rice planting season. Over time the blood imparts a dark color to the figures, overlaid with a patina of grease from food offerings. Size of largest 16 7/8" H x 3" W. Excellent Asante Royal 'Asipim' Court Chair Lot #245 (Sale Order 244 of 332) West Africa, Ghana, Asante Royal court throne chair known as an Asipim or stand form royal chair of the Asante court. Exclusively used by chiefs and court figures with innumerable European brass embossed panels, appliques, tacks and "Mpeaboo" gold weight shaped decoration over the wood with hide seat bottom. The top of the chair decorated with two finials known as "Ntuatire", often in a eagle talons form. Among chieftain the more chairs (Asipim) an Akan chief posses the more powerful they are. Asante 'Prestige' Stool, Ex-Ambassador Lot #249 (Sale Order 248 of 332) West, Africa, Ghana, Akan cultures, Asante peoples, 20th century. Early stool were one of the most important type of court regalia with complicated variations and designations of male and female throne too plentiful to list. This example with a flat rectangular base, series of geometric pierced openings and four circular columns or struts with scalloped decorated edged. The center of the throne is a square column that also supports the upturned U shaped sitting platform. Pierced with a square cut opening to the base under the hollowed out central column. Barbara Peets, 'Making for Open Water' 431/450 Lot #277 (Sale Order 276 of 332) Not commonly known, elk are the only ones in the deer family who can actually dive deeply into water, making for a swift escape from predators such as the wolves chasing after the elk in Barbara's rare print 'Making for Open Water', series 431/450 the piece is signed and dated '81.
Peets manages to bring the viewer into the snowy chase of three wolves against one bull elk, as he runs for the water no doubt exclaiming a loud wailing bugle to warn others around him of the dangerous pack. Size in frame 38 1/2" W x 26 1/2" H, sight 26 3/4" W x 17" H. Condition: Reverse paper backing does need re-done as it is mostly lost. Image is slightly loose in frame, frame and glass front have minor surface scratches. |

Body is decorated on the verso with bas relief depictions of a putti balancing young Silenus who holds a thyrsus (see note 2) on the back of a putti positioned like a goat, and other putti and a satyr in the procession.
