DA Lubricant Indianapolis Motor Speedway Stopwatch Lot #29a (Sale Order 37 of 758) D-A Lubricant was a primary sponsor for four years, 1955-1958, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with a best finish of 6th in 1956 with Bob Swiekert. DA didn't leave the sport they began to be involved in other ways including becoming associate sponsors and providing DA Chronographs for pit crews. The Swiss-made Chronographs offered once belonged to Lee M. Brown who was part of the Penske Racing Team. The unit has a speed chart specifically designed for the 2 1/2 mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It measures approximately 4-5/8" across by 2-3/4" tall.

In 1973, this car featured sponsorship from the Atlanta Falcons and made the Indianapolis 500 starting field. (You can still see the red paint from that livery in spots underneath the white paint.) In 1974, this car featured a roll cage in practice for the 500, and did not qualify for the race that year. This piece is autographed by Mel and Don Kenyon. The clip has paint loss and wear from use. Mel & Don were considered the founding fathers of Midget Racing. Measures approximately 42" across by 20" wide.

These were AAR Eagle style wheels were utilized by legendary Hoffman Auto Racing during the late 1970Õs and early 1980Õs on the USAC Championship trail with drivers such as Joe Saldana, Larry Cannon, Jerry Grant, and many others. These wheels have seen significant damage and would make be perfect for any vintage racing display.

Goodyear Engine Heat Blanket Used By AAR Lot #52 (Sale Order 66 of 758) Original Goodyear Engine Heat Blanket Used by All American Racers. The blanket is made from Dettrasa Flag Products. It has some staining and wear from age and use. Displays well with great colors. Measures approximately 6ft across by 4ft tall. During the tire wars of the 1960Õs and 1970Õs at the Indianapolis 500, Firestone and Goodyear issued engine heat blankets to their respective teams to cover the cars on pit lane and the starting grid. This Goodyear example was utilized by the All Amercian Racers team in 1969 at Indianapolis. This blanket was obtained from an AAR 1969 Indianapolis 500 crew member on Denny HulmeÕs car. The crew member stated that Dan gave this engine heat blanket to him after the race inÕ69 as a gift.

Throughout auto racing history, there have been dozens of tracks that only existed for a very short time for a variety of reasons. One of those was Wilmington Speedway in Delaware, active from 1952 to 1955 and in 1958. While only around for a brief time, the track hosted midgets, big cars (sprint cars), and stock cars. This rare, vintage poster from 1953, promoted big car races at the 1/3 speedway for the first time since 1938. Early reports were 35 big car drivers would invade the paved oval under the direction of the National Auto Racing Association (NARA), one of the newest East coast sanctioning bodies. If you have ever flown into the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport you have been on the grounds where auto racing history was made. The airport was built on the site of the former Twin City Motor Speedway, a two-mile concrete oval that held American Automobile Association (AAA) National Championship races from 1915 through 1917. The first race was an ambitious 500-mile race held on September 4, 1915, won by Earl Cooper and Johnny Aitken in a shared drive in a Stutz. This extremely rare framed pennant is from that 500-mile race in 1915.

Speedway Park was constructed in 1915 west of Chicago. The goal was to make Speedway Park Òthe fastest, safest, and most spectacular automobile race course in America." A harsh winter delayed the construction of the two-mile board track, but it was completed in time for the first official event on June 19, 1915. The American Automobile Association (AAA) race was postponed a week due to rain. The Auto Derby was won on June 26th by Italian driver Dario Resta. Resta went on to win the 1916 Indianapolis 500 and the American Automobile Association national championship. The pennant measures approximately 36" long. The frame measuers approximately 39-1/4" across by 14-3/4" tall.
