Paul Dudley Sargent (b. June 23, 1745, Salem, MA â€“ d. September 28, 1828, Sullivan, ME), a distinguished privateer and soldier in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War, originally owned this table circa 1774. His granddaughter, Margaret W. Wilkerson, documented its provenance in her will, dated February 25, 1895, declaring it a family heirloom and bequeathing it to her grandson, Arthur Wilkerson Dunning. Upon his ownership, the table then passed to Mrs. Arthur L. Mills of Greenville, SC, eventually reaching its current steward, Mary Moore Mills Present. Table is 46 1/2" x 23 3/4" x 28" h. More information on Paul Dudley Sargent: Paul Dudley Sargent, a distinguished Continental Army officer, commanded a regiment during the Siege of Boston and was wounded at Bunker Hill. In 1776, he led a brigade that fought at Harlem Heights, White Plains, Trenton, and Princeton. Initially, he commanded the 27th Massachusetts Regiment, disbanded after the Siege of Boston, before leading the 16th Continental Regiment (later the 8th Massachusetts) in the Massachusetts Line. Briefly breveted as Brigadier General during the New York campaign, Sargent assumed command of additional regiments, including those of Colonels Selden, Talcott, and Ward. He and his regiment notably crossed the Delaware with Washington on December 25, 1776.

A preview for this event will be available on Friday, November 15, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday, November 16, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. All bidding will take place exclusively online, opening on October 27, 2024. The first lot will begin closing on November 17 at 7:30 PM, with subsequent lots closing sequentially until 10:54 PM. Please note, however, that if active bidding continues on items near closing, additional time may be extended to accommodate interested parties. Pickup is scheduled for November 19 and 20, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. We offer in-house shipping for smaller items, while freight shipping for larger items will be managed by a third-party provider coordinated by Oliver's Auction.
