Ancient Celtic-Iberian Falcata Sword - Horse-Head Pommel & "Evil Eye" Symbols, 6th-4th Century B.C.

Lot #104 (Sale Order 13 of 273)

"This is a fully intact, museum-worthy Iron Age kopis/falcata-style sword from the Celtic Iberian-Balkan region, dating to the 6th-4th century B.C., with its original bronze and iron hilt, horse-head pommel, and protective "evil eye" symbols engraved across the grip. The blade is curved in classic falcata form, forward-heavy and devastating in slashing power, while the grip architecture features La Tene cultural influences, including semi-anthropomorphic symmetry and spiritual detailing. The entire piece has been professionally conserved with museum-grade wax and is accompanied by pre-restoration "in situ" find photos. The falcata is among the most iconic weapons of the ancient Western world, famed for its cutting efficiency and psychological intimidation. Used by Celtiberian, Illyrian, and Balkan tribal warriors, it was feared by the Romans for its ability to shear through shields and armor. The horse-head pommel likely symbolized strength, mobility, and warlike nobility, while the "evil eye" carvings served as talismans of protection in battle. With superb preservation, full documentation, and symbolic richness, this weapon is not only a martial tool, it is a sacred and cultural artifact of a pre-Roman warrior elite. Weighing over 880 grams and measuring over 63 cm in length, it stands as one of the most impressive La Tène-influenced falcatas to enter the market in recent years.

Medieval Crusader Sword - Type X with Oakeshott Style H Pommel & Style 6 Guard (1000-1200 A.D.)

Lot #206 (Sale Order 43 of 273)

This extraordinary medieval sword is a fully restored ground-find example dating to the High Middle Ages, circa 1000-1200 A.D., and fits the typology of an Oakeshott Type X blade with a Style H chamfered disc pommel and Style 6 straight crossguard. The sword retains its original core iron construction, now stabilized and treated with conservation wax.

It displays the archetypal straight, wide fuller running nearly the full length of the blade?an iconic form carried by crusading knights and early feudal warriors during the First through Third Crusades. Type X swords represent one of the most definitive sword types of the late Viking and early Crusader era. They were widely used across Western and Central Europe, often associated with knightly retinues, Norman cavalry, and Christian forces fighting in the Levant.

The H-style pommel?with chamfered edges?was designed for one-handed use, enabling powerful strikes while maintaining control with a shield. The flat crossguard provided balance and defense against opposing blades. This example, though ground-recovered, has been professionally conserved and structurally re-stabilized?allowing modern collectors to own a physical piece of medieval martial history. Complete, typologically attributable Crusader-era swords are exceptionally rare, especially with matching guard and pommel forms. A true centerpiece for any advanced collection of medieval arms.

Possibly 16th Century Spanish Heraldic Crest - Castle, Daggers, and Floral Motifs on Red Ground

Lot #213 (Sale Order 50 of 273)

"This striking heraldic crest, likely originating in 16th-century Spain, is believed to have been mounted on a castle or noble estate wall. The design features a vivid red background with a central fortress (castle) at the top, flanked by ornate floral motifs and three large downward-pointing daggers or swords arranged beneath the main emblem. Despite its age, the colors remain surprisingly rich, with the red ground and gold/yellow detailing still clearly visible. The surface shows minor weathering and age cracks consistent with centuries of outdoor or exposed placement. Heraldic crests in Renaissance Spain were essential symbols of noble lineage, regional power, and familial legacy, often displayed on gates, walls, or interior hearths. The castle motif commonly symbolized fortitude, feudal authority, and defense of territory, while downward-pointing weapons could reference successful military campaigns, authority over conquered lands, or solemn remembrance. Authentic period crests like this, especially those recovered directly from historic structures, are exceptionally scarce on the open market. This piece offers both visual grandeur and deep cultural context, a stunning display of Spanish noble identity and martial pride during the golden age of Spanish empire.
Early Halberd circa 1500-1520 Early Halberd circa 1500-1520

Early Halberd circa 1500-1520

Lot #214 (Sale Order 51 of 273)

"Constructed with a sword-shaped spike. Remains of decoration, strong medial ridge. Classifying which country a halberd is from is normally difficult; however, it should be noted that Albrecht Dürer used this typology of halberd in his drawings and engravings during this period. The halberd is a multiuse staff weapon of the Medieval and Renaissance periods. It was used with devastating effects throughout Europe. The halberd was developed in Switzerland and was popular throughout Western Europe. The halberd was responsible for changing warfare in Renaissance/ Medieval Europe. It was first called ‚ Hallembart ‚ by the German poet Konrad of Wurzberg (d. 1287), who described a blade attached to a pole utilizing two rings called ‚eyelids in a poem about the Trojan War. It originated between the 6th and 9th centuries in the early Middle Ages. The first halberds were a short sword called a ‚scramasax‚ (see page 313 in my book) attached to a wooden pole. The halberd had reached a more evolved form by the late 13th and 14th centuries. It is mentioned in poetry and contemporary records of the period. In 1348, Franciscan John of Winterthur chronicled the Battle of Morgarten in 1315, in which his father fought.

The blade is a stunning Damascus steel example, marked at the ricasso and embellished with a gold inlaid maker's stamp near the forte. While the exact origin remains unclear, the piece is believed to be 90% original and may be a Victorian-era homage to 17th-century originals. Rapiers like this were originally popular during the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, used primarily by gentlemen for civilian self-defense and dueling.

The sweeping guard offered superior hand protection during thrust-based fencing styles. By the Victorian era, many wealthy collectors commissioned high-quality reproductions of Renaissance arms for decorative or ceremonial use, often retaining the exquisite attention to detail seen in this example. Whether original or reproduction, this sword is a stunning representation of craftsmanship and martial elegance spanning centuries.

Italian or French Renaissance Nobleman's Left-Hand Dagger - Museum Grade

Lot #304 (Sale Order 59 of 273)

This exquisite Renaissance left-hand dagger was designed for use with a rapier, showcasing deeply detailed figural motifs of armored warriors and bound figures. The steel mounts exhibit a bright, silvered finish, while the robust double-edged blade features pierced fullers and a fortified ricasso, suggesting it may have been capable of piercing armor.

During the 16th and 17th centuries, left-hand daggers (or parrying daggers) were essential tools in civilian dueling culture. Noblemen trained in fencing carried these to deflect strikes and counterattack, balancing the long thrusting rapier in the other hand.

17th-Century Large Wooden Carved Altar Statue - Saint Francis (Missing Arms)

Lot #311 (Sale Order 66 of 273)

This large, striking altar statue of Saint Francis dates to the 1600s and was likely created for a church interior or mission altar in Southern Europe or colonial Latin America. Despite the missing arms, a common loss in early wooden religious statuary, the work radiates a quiet strength through its posture and simplicity.

Saint Francis was often portrayed in a robe with a tonsured head, reflecting humility and connection to nature.

This example, part of the Samuel Presley Nesmith Jr. Texas Museum of Military History Collection, is a compelling artifact of Catholic devotional life in the early modern era.

A powerful devotional artifact dating to the 17th century, this medium-sized hand-carved wooden altar statue likely represents Saint Francis of Assisi, identifiable by his simple monastic robe and serene expression. Though the arms are missing, common in centuries-old devotional statuary, the figure retains great reverence and presence.

Such ecclesiastical carvings were created for use in churches, chapels, or home altars, often in colonial Latin America or Southern Europe. Their wear and losses are part of their journey, tokens of centuries of veneration.

This piece hails from the Samuel Presley Nesmith Jr. Texas Museum of Military History Collection (2020) and embodies the spiritual and artistic legacy of early Christian craftsmanship.

17th-18th Century Irish Brass-Barreled Flintlock Blunderbuss - "Dublin" Marked

Lot #313 (Sale Order 68 of 273)

This rare Irish blunderbuss is a brass-barreled flintlock weapon from the 17th or early 18th century, beautifully engraved with the maker's mark "DUBLIN" on the breech and bearing early nitro proof marks including the distinctive "V" and "P" (Viewer and Proof). Additional stamps include the initials "S.W." and an embedded silver plate on the stock engraved "I. Bedell," likely denoting its original owner.

The stock itself is richly grained, with a silver shield inset into the wood, though a small section is missing near the ramrod channel. Blunderbusses were short-barreled, muzzle-loading firearms designed for close-quarters defense, commonly used aboard ships, by carriage guards, and in urban warfare. Their wide mouth made them ideal for scattershot loads.

Irish-made examples are especially desirable due to their craftsmanship and limited production. The engraved maker's marks and embedded silver nameplate suggest this piece may have belonged to a merchant-guard, officer, or well-connected civilian. This is a standout example of early Irish arms manufacture, blending rare provincial proofing with fine decorative embellishment. Its survival with such unique personalization makes it an incredibly rare collector's arm.

English Officer's Small Sword - Napoleonic Era or Earlier, Possibly Rehilted 17th Century Blade

Lot #353 (Sale Order 80 of 273)

This elegant English Officer's Small Sword likely dates to the Napoleonic period (late 18th to early 19th century) but may feature a rehilted blade from the 17th century. The sword features a classically narrow triangular thrusting blade with a chiseled ricasso and a minimalist guard.

The hilt exhibits the simple, elegant form of late Georgian officer swords, potentially updated from an older fighting blade to meet contemporary uniform standards. A refined and historically complex piece.

During the Napoleonic Wars, many British officers carried swords that were privately purchased and customized, often incorporating heirloom blades or continental parts. The small sword was a symbol of both rank and personal combat readiness, though by this period it had become largely ceremonial in nature. The potential reuse of a 17th-century blade suggests a strong family or regimental tradition, adding to the sword's mystique and narrative potential.

The original leather and brass scabbard is included, though it is separating at the midpoint, with age-appropriate wear to the fittings and surface. This model was issued to naval officials, administrators, and junior officers during France's expanding global maritime reach in the mid-19th century.

While not intended for battlefield use, dirks like these were symbols of rank and responsibility aboard ships and in naval offices. Under Napoleon III, France modernized its navy and deployed it extensively in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. This dirk is a fine example of the ceremonial elegance and pride associated with military service in that era.

Rare Spanish Colonial Sword - Circa 1680, "EnToledo Spain" Blade Inscription, Wood Grip, Guarded H

Lot #401 (Sale Order 84 of 273)

This is a rare and early Spanish Colonial-era Sword, dating approximately to circa 1680, featuring a hand-forged blade inscribed in the fuller with "ENTOLEDO SPAIN". The sword has a simple yet authentic wooden handle, with a curled metal finger guard forming part of its crossguard design.

Swords like this were widely used in Spanish colonies throughout the Americas during the late 17th century, when Toledo, Spain, was one of the foremost centers of European blade manufacturing.

These functional, utilitarian sidearms were likely carried by colonial militia, frontier guards, or naval crews in New Spain and other territories. Their straightforward construction and durable materials speak to the brutal practicality required on the colonial frontier. Surviving examples are scarce, especially with original Toledo markings.

Though the surface shows wear consistent with its age, the piece retains exceptional form and integrity. It has been professionally cleaned and oiled for preservation, with no active corrosion.
American Revolutionary War-Era Spanish Plug Bayonet Dagger - Rare American Revolutionary War-Era Spanish Plug Bayonet Dagger - Rare

American Revolutionary War-Era Spanish Plug Bayonet Dagger - Rare

Lot #402 (Sale Order 85 of 273)

This rare 18th-century Spanish plug bayonet features a double-edged steel blade and a polished horn handle, characteristic of Iberian craftsmanship of the period. Measuring 13.5 inches in total length with a 7.5-inch blade, the dagger is in excellent condition considering its age.

Plug bayonets were designed to fit directly into the muzzle of a musket, converting it into a spear-like weapon for close-quarters combat?a design that was phased out by the early 19th century due to safety concerns.

Spain's involvement in the American Revolutionary War is often overlooked but was pivotal. After joining the conflict in 1779 as an ally of France, Spain launched significant military campaigns against British forces, particularly in the Gulf Coast and Mississippi River regions. This bayonet likely belonged to a Spanish soldier involved in these efforts, such as those under General Bernardo de G lvez, who led successful campaigns that weakened British control in the South. As such, this weapon not only represents a fading form of military technology but also highlights Spain's crucial yet underappreciated role in securing American independence.

These swords were carried by British officers during the Revolutionary War, particularly those of elite regiments stationed in North America. The maker, Boutroy, operated from London's prestigious Sackville Street and was known for producing high-quality officer's blades. The clamshell guard is a traditional feature of mid-to-late 18th-century British officer swords, often seen during campaigns from Bunker Hill to Yorktown. Its craftsmanship and maker's provenance add to its desirability as a collector's item.

American Revolutionary War Hunting Sword (Cuttoe) - Circa 1760, Referenced in Neumann's Work

Lot #407 (Sale Order 90 of 273)

This is a classic American Hunting Sword, or Cuttoe, dating to circa 1760, and strongly associated with use during the American Revolutionary War. It measures approximately 26.5" in total length, and while the scabbard is no longer present, the sword remains structurally sound and has been carefully cleaned and oiled for preservation.

The style and form of this piece are directly referenced in George C. Neumann's "Swords & Blades of the American Revolution," p. 97, #106S, confirming its authenticity and period use.

Hunting swords were favored sidearms for colonial officers and militiamen, offering a compact and easily carried blade with both martial and utilitarian value. Often made or assembled domestically using imported European blades, these swords were used for close-quarter combat, ceremonial display, and daily survival in the field. By the time of the Revolution, the hunting sword had become a symbol of colonial resistance, wielded by men fighting not with formal military issue, but with whatever they had at hand. This example speaks directly to that improvisational spirit and the birth of the American identity in arms.

War of 1812 American Eaglehead Officer's Sword - L. Wells & Co. New York, Ornate Blade Design

Lot #409 (Sale Order 92 of 273)

This is a scarce American-made Eagle Head Officer's Sword, dated circa 1805, in the 5-ball spadroon pattern, with a brass-mounted hilt and a bone grip in exceptional condition. The blade is curved, single-edged, and shows remnants of its original blued and gilt decoration, including a Federal eagle and ribbon with "E Pluribus Unum," as well as a unique field of stars.

It is marked on the reverse near the ricasso with the rare New York dealer's stamp: "L. Wells & Co." Though the scabbard is missing and a small portion of the hilt is damaged, the sword remains structurally sound and collectible.

This type of sword was typical for U.S. officers during the War of 1812, particularly artillery and militia officers. The Eagle Head pommel and the decorative 5-ball knucklebow signify an American patriotic style that was evolving in opposition to European forms. According to Richard Bezdek's "American Swords and Sword Makers" (p. 317), L. Wells & Co. was active between 1799?1807. This specific dealer mark makes it an especially valuable research and display piece, tying it directly to early American commercial arms trade.

Lot #778 (Sale Order 203 of 273)

"This early-war U.S. WWII pistol holster is stamped ""U.S."" on the flap and ""Boyt -40"" on the reverse, with an unusual non-regulation brass stud replacing the factory closure hardware. This may indicate a field repair or supply depot modification. The leather shows a warm, broken-in patina, with age darkening and light surface wear throughout. Stitching remains firm, and the belt loop is unmodified.

Boyt's 1940 holsters are among the earliest full-production runs for WWII contracts-issued to U.S. Army and Marine Corps personnel prior to America's full-scale entry into the war. This example may have seen duty in pre-1942 deployments or early Pacific campaigns. The custom brass stud suggests soldier-level adaptation, a common practice in field conditions.

Provenance: A veteran bringback.

Rare German WW2 Luftwaffe Officer's 1st Model Dagger - Alcosa-Marked with Full Rig

"This is an original and highly desirable German WW2 Luftwaffe Officer's First Model Dagger, complete with its original Moroccan leather-wrapped scabbard, aluminum chain, and belt hanger. Maker-marked by Alcosa, the dagger retains its bright, nickel-plated stiletto blade with ""Alles fur Deutschland"" motto cleanly visible. The cast aluminum crossguard features outstretched stylized wings flanking a gilt sunwheel swastika. The grip is wrapped in blue Moroccan leather with a multi-strand silver wire braid and pommel inlaid with matching swastika emblems.

The First Model Luftwaffe dagger was introduced in 1934 as an update to the DLV (Deutscher Luftsport Verband) officer's sidearm, worn by members of the secretive Fliegerschaft before the Luftwaffe's formal unveiling in 1935. These early daggers were symbols of prestige, awarded to commissioned officers and pilot-licensed personnel. While the design changed in 1937, the First Model remained an iconic representation of early Luftwaffe ambition and its roots in Germany's aviation resurgence under Goring's command.

This example shows only light handling wear, with some toning to the silver fittings and minor leather rub to the grip. 100% authentic, it was brought home by a U.S. serviceman and represents an incredibly fine and complete example of an early Luftwaffe dress weapon!

German WW2 EM/NCO Heer Army Aluminum Belt Buckle - Vet Bring-Back

Lot #797 (Sale Order 222 of 273)

"This original German WW2 Heer (Army) belt buckle was issued to enlisted men and non-commissioned officers and is constructed of lightweight aluminum, making it a typical early- to mid-war example. The central motif is the national eagle clutching a swastika, encircled by oak leaves and crowned by the phrase ""Gott Mit Uns"" (""God With Us""), a traditional German military motto dating back to the Prussian era. The buckle is in solid condition, showing age-appropriate wear, and was brought home by a U.S. veteran, adding personal provenance to its historical value. These belt buckles were more than uniform accessories-they were visible emblems of loyalty and state ideology.

The phrase ""Gott Mit Uns"" echoed a long-standing militaristic tradition, while the incorporation of Nazi symbology reflected the regime's effort to fuse military authority with political dogma. This piece not only reflects the daily wear of millions of German soldiers but also represents the broader mobilization of nationalism and totalitarian control in Nazi Germany. Vet bring-backs like this were commonly preserved as war trophies, encapsulating personal narratives of World War II service and victory.

Russian WW2 Pilot's Survival Tool - Compact Axe/Hatchet

Lot #798 (Sale Order 223 of 273)

"This is an original WWII-era Soviet Air Force pilot's survival hatchet, a compact yet rugged multipurpose tool carried aboard Red Army aircraft for emergency landings, navigation, and survival scenarios. Forged from carbon steel with a broad axe face and pick-style back spike, the hatchet shows clear wartime age and service wear. The wooden grip is ribbed for handling and secured by steel rivets, with signs of field reconditioning. Issued primarily to bomber crews and front-line fighter pilots operating in the vast, unforgiving terrain of the Eastern Front, these survival tools were stored in aircraft emergency kits alongside maps, flares, and basic rations.

Pilots who crashed behind enemy lines or in remote tundra or forest zones depended on these tools for firewood collection, shelter building, or defense. Unlike American or British pilot gear, which was often standardized, Soviet aircrew equipment was diverse, often hand-assembled in depot-level survival kits. These compact hatchets are rare to find outside of Eastern Europe and represent a fascinating aspect of Soviet aviation history-equal parts practical tool and emblem of Red Army resilience.

These grips are particularly scarce and highly desirable among collectors due to their aesthetic appeal and rarity. The grip is tightly wrapped in twisted silver bullion wire, showing minimal wear. The hilt components are aluminum, consistent with wartime materials used in Luftwaffe daggers. The pommel is crisply detailed, with sharply raised oak leaves and swastikas on both sides, and the crossguard eagle is well-detailed with minimal wear and fine feathering. The scabbard is straight, with much of the original zinc plating still intact, accented by raised oak leaf bands, a single screw throat, and an attractive dark patina. The blade remains in fantastic condition, retaining its original factory crossgrain, with only light runner marks and faint gray speckling from age. The reverse ricasso is etched with the hallmark of Paul Holler.

Bandit Warfare Badge in Bronze

Lot #802 (Sale Order 227 of 273)

"Bandit-warfare Badge (Bandenkampfabzeichen), also called Anti-Partisan or Guerrilla Warfare Badge, was a World War II decoration of Nazi Germany awarded to members of the Army, Luftwaffe, Order Police, and Waffen-SS for participating in rear-area security operations, the so- called Bandenbekämpfung (bandit fighting). The badge was instituted on 30 January 1944 by Adolf Hitler after authorization/recommendation by Heinrich Himmler. The award was intended to recognize those who had taken part in combating the growing Partisan menace which was causing so much disruption in the areas occupied by the German armed forces along with her Allies. The badge is usually associated predominantly with battles against Soviet Partisans in the Eastern Europe and with Tito and Yugoslavia. But was of course intended for all those who had seen action against Partisans on all the fronts. Although this was an SS and Police award, it was open to all those who had fought against the Partisans and fulfilled the appropriate criteria listed. Thus, it was also awarded to members of the Army, Navy, and Luftwaffe personnel as well as to SS and Police units. Authority to bestow the award lay with the High Command of each branch of the Armed Forces and with the local Höhere SS- und Polizei Führer in the case of Waffen-SS or SS and Polizei awards.
