Late 1800's Plateau 14 3/4" long x 3 3/8" wide Cradle Board Model. From the Washington state area. Lot #404 (Sale Order 406 of 424) Late 1800's Plateau 14 3/4" long x 3 3/8" wide Cradle Board Model. From the Washington state area. This rare artifact is in good condition with only minor visible bead loss near the top of the board and a broken top loop (parts included). This artifact has exceptional provenance. It has remained in the same family since nearly the time it was made until it was consigned to this auction. This item was originally collected by Jennie Barlow Harding, who was the granddaughter of Samuel Barlow. Sam Barlow was famous for completing the "Barlow Road" section of the Oregon Trail in 1846. Jennie (1852-1926) maintained regular interactions with the Native Americans in the Columbia River area of Oregon and Washington, becoming a collector of Native American craftsmanship of that time. After her passing, this item was passed down to her son George Lee Harding, then to George's daughter Susannah Lee (Harding) Christiansen, who then passed it down to her children, who consigned it to Premiere Auctions. It is very rare to be able to trace an artifact's history for over 100 years.
