El Cazador Shipwreck Encrusted Loose Coin 1784 Rare Lot #48 (Sale Order 48 of 300) This Spanish Silver 8 Reale, Encrusted Bust dollar is from the shipwreck that changed US History dramatically. This coin is nicely encrusted with the date 1783 visible, as well as the pillars and shield, and an indentation where another coin was stuck to it at some point. This coin was recovered during the 2002 Salvage Expedition, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. These coins are becoming very scarce and hard to find, especially in this uncleaned state.
The El Cazador, a Spanish brigantine of war, was lost without a trace in the winter of 1784 while on route from Vera Cruz Mexico to the port of New Orleans. The wreck site was accidentally discovered on August 2, 1993 by a fishing vessel working the area. The treasure of the El Cazador, consisting of over 400,000 Spanish 8 reales and an equal amount of smaller denomination Spanish colonial coins from the Mexico City mint, was intended to stabilize the Spanish monetary system in colonial North America. Her loss contributed to Spain's eventual conveyance of Louisiana to France's Napoleon in 1800. The rest is history, as three years later in 1803, Napoleon of France sold Louisiana to the United States, instantly doubling the size of the country. |

Authentic Campo Del Cielo Meteorite, discovered in 1576 by Spanish Explorers Lot #85 (Sale Order 85 of 300) This Meteorite is a very nice size, weighing at 232.8 Grams. The Campo del Cielo refers to a group of iron meteorites, or to the area where they were found, situated on the border between the provinces of Chaco and Santiago del Estero, 1,000 kilometers (620 mi) northwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The crater field covers an area of 3×20 kilometers and contains at least 26 craters, the largest being 115×91 meters. The craters' age is estimated as 4,000–5,000 years.
The total weight of the pieces so far recovered exceeds 100 tonnes, making the meteorite the heaviest one ever recovered on Earth. The largest fragment, consisting of 37 tonnes, is the second heaviest single-piece meteorite recovered on Earth, after the Hoba meteorite. In 1576, the governor of a province in Northern Argentina commissioned the military to search for a huge mass of iron, which he had heard that Indians used for their weapons. The Indians claimed that the mass had fallen from the sky in a place they called Piguem Nonralta which the Spanish translated as Campo del Cielo ("Field of the Sky"). The expedition found a large mass of metal protruding out of the soil. They assumed it was an iron mine and brought back a few samples, which were described as being of unusual purity. The governor documented the expedition and deposited the report in the Archivo General de Indias in Seville, but it was quickly forgotten and later reports on that area merely repeated the Indian legends. |

"Big Chief Lesser Grin" Cigar Store Indian, Carved Totem - Folk Art Lot #121 (Sale Order 121 of 300) This piece is hand carved, and painted, with a wonderful presence. He is in excellent condition, with the typical naturally occurring cracks in the wood, as shown in photos. Dimensions of this piece are 60" t x 14" w x 12 1/2" d.
Comes with a framed story, which goes something like this : THE LAST LESSER GRIN CHIEF OF TEN FEATHERS; This is a Puiye Indian carved in Grant, New Mexico in 1902 by a revisionist Baptist minister who returned to the ways of the silver river fox. The sculptor’s fascination for the potentials of raw Douglas fir led to his first monumental Indian chief idol which he carved in four short years between bouts of distemper. This “Big Grin” chief was followed over the next sixteen years with five “Lesser Grin” chiefs, each larger in size but lesser in amicability. Finally, the 1902 “Little Grin” chief, his masterpiece, was completed after eight further years of declining inspiration. The unnamed sulking sculptor (called “Le petit non-Baptiste” by his pidgeoned Englished fellow tribesman) did not finish the would-be masterpiece, before which you now stand, as is evidenced by the missing tenth feather. The proper title of “The Last Lesser Grin Of Ten Feathers” is, therefore, a pathetic misnomer, but, nevertheless, the name has caught on and is much referred to in Grant, New Mexico even to this day. This lot was part of the largest collection of Folk art in the United States, owned by Kathryn Birmingham & Gerald Horton. It has been shown in Museums across the country as part of America’s Historical Folk Art. Included with the lot is a photocopy of the flyer from one of the shows at The Coral Springs Museum of Art, called “American Spirit” , from 2008, as well as a photocopy of the catalog from the Georgia Museum of Art exhibition, called “Americana – Folk Art Traditions”, 1994. Bronn "Manitou" Porcelain Sculpture, 15/15, Original Purchase Price of $22,000 Lot #144 (Sale Order 144 of 300) This Phenomenal Piece is difficult to describe because of it's sheer magnificence of detail. The Manitou's workmanship is so intricate and fine, that it is easy to see why it cost $22,000. It is a museum quality piece, for which Bronn is noted, as their pieces are displayed in Presidential Homes and Palaces. This Porcelain Sculpture is heavy and sits on a gorgeous solid wood custom stand. The wood alone is a work of art. The approximate dimensions of this piece are 26" x 27"t x16"d. The condition is excellent, with the exception of the tip of one leaf, I recently discovered is chipped (very hard to find). There are so many leaves and moss, and animals, that it is difficult to see. But after close inspection, I believe everything else is completely intact. There is some dust in the detail work, and could probably be air dusted with high pressurized air. This is a Rare piece with only 15 ever made. I know you will not be disappointed with this handmade & Handpainted Piece
Manitou is a term used to designate spirit beings among many Algonquian groups. It refers to the concept of one aspect of the interconnection and balance of nature/life, or to a spirit. This spirit is seen as a (contactable) person as well as a concept. Everything has its own manitou—every plant, every stone, even machines. Please note: This piece will need to be professionally handled by a carrier that you arrange: picked up, packed, and shipped, as we are unable to provide that service on this particular piece. |
