Early Thor-Agena Large Display Model Lot #37 (Sale Order 37 of 507) The winning bidder for this item will be responsible for arranging and paying for shipping independently of the auction. I will be glad to supply a list of companies if you request, and will work with the shipper of your choice to deliver the item to them. I can even be persuaded to drive the item to you myself if you live within a 2-hour drive of Melbourne, FL.
An early Thor-Agena custom-built lobby display rocket model which stands about 10 feet tall when the three parts are stacked. It was told to me that this Thor-Agena model was formerly on display in a lobby of a building on the Air Force Cape side, which sounds very plausible. The solid wooden rocket stands on a heavy metal base, and comes in three parts. The metal base is 20" in diameter and weighs 59 pounds, and sets the bottom of the rocket about 4" above the ground. The rocket body is 10" in diameter weighing in at 58 pounds, and is 74" in length, while the nose is 45" in length and weighs 9 pounds. Total weight equals 126 pounds. The nose has a metal piston which slides easily into the body. The rocket body comes with a metal engine bell which can be screwed off and on.
The plate on the Douglas logo base reads "Thor-Agena" and is a bit weathered but can be cleaned up. No significant flaws in the assembly that I can see, and the whole thing should clean up nicely.
The Thor-Agena configuration first flew successfully in February 1959, and continued to fly until the late 1960's. Probably one-of-a-kind.

This flag was stored poorly for awhile it seems, and exhibits numerous moth holes especially around the border of the emblem with most of them being small - there are a few 1" tears as well originating from moth holes I suspect. The emblem itself looks to be in great shape, but faded. Additionally, some lengths of the tassels are separating from the flag and have to be re-sewn into position. Attractive and hard to find nonetheless.

An S-IVB Saturn V third stage O2/H2 burner spare part. The burner was installed to heat the pressure of cyrogenically stored Helium on the third stage for use in conjunction with ullage system. This burner was activated about nine minutes prior to S-IVB engine restart (this was the second firing of the stage which took the Apollo CSM/LM and of Earth orbit and into Translunar Injection. It's known as a LOX/LH2 burner because it used a small amount of the same propellants to heat the helium which actually powered the S-IVB J2 engine.
There are several lines running along the burner labeled Gaseous Helium and Gaseous Nitrogen, and the date stamped on the engine bell is 6-26-67. Formerly wrapped in heavy plastic, which disintegrated over the years, but attached to the outside of the plastic was the sticker "Critical Hardware for Saturn/Apollo" (included in auction). The burner measures 32" in length, 15" in overall width, with the burner chamber being 10.5" diameter and weighs 60 pounds.

The circular rings on the outer disc signify what stars would be seen through the Optical Telescope at certain times during the stay on the moon. Star charts like this were used on every lunar landing mission to orient the LM just prior to liftoff. This star chart is for a launch date of 11 April 70 (the Apollo 13 actual launch date) and was to be used just prior to their scheduled liftoff time. Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. This star chart was used in the Lunar Module Simulator and was no doubt handled by Lovell and Haise during their training. There is a bend in the outer edge of the outer disc, no doubt bent back during training to clearly read underneath. Otherwise nice shape and extremely uncommon.

This star chart is for a launch date of 11 April 70 (the Apollo 13 actual launch date) and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface immediately after landing - with 2 hours (TD+2). Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. This star chart was used in the Lunar Module Simulator and was no doubt handled by Lovell and Haise during their training. The outer disc has some dings, but the main disc is in nice shape. Apollo 15 Post-Landing Lunar Module Star Chart Lot #369 (Sale Order 379 of 507) An 8-1/4" diameter Apollo 15 Lunar Module Post-Landing star chart consisting of a black star disc below and a semi-transparent rotating disc above. The rings on the outer disc signify what stars would be seen through the Optical Telescope at certain times during the stay on the moon. Star charts like this were used on every lunar landing mission to orient the LM just prior to liftoff. The star chart is dated April 19, 1971 for a launch date of July 26, 1971 (the Apollo 15 actual launch date), and was to be used in case the Lunar Module had to leave the moon's surface immediately after landing. Each Lunar Module carried two similar star charts - this one for an immediate liftoff, and another for liftoff after the stars had precessed across the sky during their stay on the moon. This particular star chart was used in the Lunar Module Simulator and was no doubt handled by Scott and Irwin during their training. There is a slight "corner" bend line in the top plastic overlay, no doubt made there in order to more clearly see the disc underneath. Nice condition otherwise and extremely uncommon.
This will be one of the last star charts available from this consignor.

Challenger Metal Tile Form or Mold Lot #458A (Sale Order 475 of 507) I'm not exactly sure what this is, and have not been able to find a NASA friend who knows either. However, it is a 6"x 7.5"x 2.5" heavy metal tile form of sorts that has the shape of a heat tile but is not a tile. It is engraved on the top in part "OV-99" which is the space shuttle Challenger (OV-099). It is also dated 12-28-84. Possibly this was used to press a corresponding tile into place. There is a threaded hole on the top possibly for a support rod, and it weighs 4 pounds. There is also a thin red cushioning on the bottom of the tile form that is glued into place.
Originally from the Charlie Bell auctions in the year 2000.
