An amazing early V2 rocket scale model which comes complete in its custom-made wooden transportation crate. The rocket measures 59.5" in height (5 feet) and 6.5" in diameter. The lower portion of the V2 rocket is made from stainless steel and extends over 37" in length while the upper portion is crafted from wood and measures about 23" of the total height. The V2 itself weighs about 60 pounds as does the crate, for a total shipping weight of 120 pounds. Engraved on the bottom of the engine bell is "UofM WRRC 6024-B" which stands for University of Michigan Willow Run Research Center. A packing slip dated June 1, 1954 presenting this rocket, Model No. 9, to the Microwave Radiation Company in California also comes with the rocket.
Research has uncovered that this V2 rocket was a scale model short-range ballistic missile, either tested or left over as a space, under Project MX-784. It was used to study the radar cross-sections of V2 type rockets in nose-on configurations, and were dropped from altitude in free fall to achieve the desired results. The contract number for this testing was W33-038-ac-14222, which is the contract number on the paperwork. Great condition and no doubt one-of-a-kind.
