Winchester officials traveled to Colt headquarters with several advanced handgun designs and "asked for advice" on how to market them. Colt got the message, and offered to drop the Burgess if Winchester dropped their handgun proposals. True or not, it's and interesting story and the fact remains that the Burgess is a very rare rifle with just over 3800 produced. Values range from $4500 from Flayderman to $5500 from the Blue Book...though several have gone over $10,000 at auction! Our last one sold for $5000 and wasn't as nice!

It was established in 1924 in remembrance of founding of Latvia. Its motto is "Per aspera ad astra". The Order has five ranks and three grades of medals of honour. This example is the Great Star 1st rate in the shape of five point star made of silver with a blue enamel medallion with three golden five-point stars in its center. On its edge there is inscription "Par Tçviju" (English: For Fatherland). It is a fantastic quality .875 coin silver and was produced by WF Muller of Riga. The Order was suppressed after the Soviet invasion of 1940 but restored after Latvia regained its independence in 1991. This example dates from the 1924-1940 period, supposedly given out in 1933. Politicians, scientist, cultural leaders as well as military heroes all were awarded this honor. Among the foreign recipients were Boris Yeltsin, George W Bush, Viktor Yushchenko and Jacques Chirac. Muzzle-Loading Black-Powder 100 Caliber Cannon on Carriage Lot #162 (Sale Order 163 of 327) This cool modern Muzzle-Loading Black-Powder 100 Caliber Cannon was built by a local Police Officer and is loads of fun. Looking like a US Military Anti-Tank gun, it is one a cast iron wheeled carriage with a armor shield. The barrel is wheel cranked for elevation and is ignited using #4 .22 short blanks fired with an ingenious mouse-trap firing mechanism. It is designed to fire standard 3/4" brass pipe caps half-filled with lead and half-filled with 40 grains of black powder and sealed with painters tape. The 22 blank sends a jet of fire through to the tape to the black powder, igniting the powder and sending the slug hundreds of yards down-range. At a 100 yards, it will bury itself into a tree trunk! It's lightweight (only 150 lbs), rolls easily, will fit through a normal door (put it in the living room!) and looks like a real gun! Measures about 6' long and 4' tall. It is aimed by a tube sight atop the barrel. It is big enough it'll have to be shipped freight unless you want to make other arrangements. Lots of fun, a neat noise-maker and the ultimate Big Boy Toy!

RARE German Produced "Westley Richards" Commercial Cone-Hammer Mauser Broomhandle Pistol FFL # 8306 Lot #165 (Sale Order 166 of 327) A Super RARE/Super Early near one of a kind German manufactured "Westley Richards & Company" marketed Commercial Six-Shot 7.63mm Cone-Hammer Mauser Broomhandle Semi-Auto Pistol in very good/excellent condition with a fair to good bore. This 1897 dated pistol has the "Made by Westley Richards & Company, London" engraved on three lines on the RHS, 23 groove grips, quick opening magazine floor plate, and a unique "Express" style flip rear sight added to the original fixed sight. It has 70% finish, all matching numbers, no import marks and unusual proofs (see photos) which look Belgian. There is rifling left in the bore, but it is weak with light pitting. Grips are very good, with near no pitting along the frame. Markings are crisp and the action is still mechanically tight. The cone hammer and other pieces show light traces of "straw" and the lanyard ring is missing. These Westley Richard pistols were favorites of well-off British Officers, with many being used in the Sudan, Indian and the Boer Wars. Many were still in service through WWI, though their popularity had waned by then. This superb piece came with the next lots shoulder stock/holster, though it is not numbered to this pistol. Unfortunately there is no history attached to this Mauser - but there are only a handful of these six-shot Commercials in existence (and none we've identified with these sights). A unique opportunity to own a historic pistol - the closest examples we've seen have sold in the $4000 to $6500 range, but in this case you get to determine the price.
