Inertial Navigation System Lot #55 (Sale Order 55 of 499) A vintage Inertial Navigation System probably from an aircraft, but one that was probably connected to NASA because it was at one time sold as NASA surplus equipment. Quite heavy and about 14" tall, its still attempts to operate. When the INS is held and rotated, a mechanical sound is heard and the gyro-like device moves trying to find equilibrium.

Piece of VAB US Flag Siding in Lucite Lot #56 (Sale Order 56 of 499) An approximately 1"x 2" piece of VAB siding in a 2"x 6"x 1" lucite block that was recovered after hurricane damage to the VAB in 2004. Although 80 lucites were made, this one is #4 of 80, there were only six made with the red of the American flag from the side of the building, and this is one of them. Excellent condition.

Set of Astronaut Autopen Signature Transparencies Lot #62 (Sale Order 62 of 499) A complete set of about 25 transparencies, each in their individual plastic sheets, containing all the known autopen signatures from every astronaut up to 1987. That includes all astronauts from Freedom 7 to STS-27. These transparencies were made from a small book, in which copies of the cover and Acknowledgements page will be included. Each autopen is life size, and can be slid over any suspect signature you may run across. I have provided two examples with a Young and Duke autopen. Since the transparency autopens are actual size, they will blot out the autopen signature being checked.

Original MR-3 Blockhouse Audio Tape of Alan Shepard's Mercury Flight Lot #76 (Sale Order 76 of 499) The original voice transmission audio tape from Blockhouse 5-6 that was recorded during the launch and mission of Alan Shepard and Freedom 7. This is not a copy of the tape, but the actual one. Consigned from a former member of Wernher von Braun's team in 1961. He was given the tape after the mission by Kurt Debus, and is the only strictly audio tape made (there were other audio/video tapes made of course).
This lot also includes an original tape from Shepard's post-flight debriefing. Many years ago the audio on the tapes were copied to cassettes. This lot comes complete with a signed letter from the consignor explaining what they are and how he obtained them. See the photo of the COA.

Gemini-Titan Era SCAPE Suit Lot #82 (Sale Order 82 of 499) This vintage Self Contained Atmospheric Protective Ensemble (SCAPE) suit was utilized by missile silo and launch-pad team members engaged in fueling and de-tanking of storable liquid propellants affiliated with the Titan launch vehicle and spacecraft reaction control systems. The suit would have included its own backpack with breathing oxygen to isolate the wearer from the hazards of hypergolic fuel and oxidizer (the propellants were extremely toxic and carcinogenic).

It contains 10 tabbed sections of about 200-300 pages of some foldouts, diagrams, charts and information all contained in a vintage 3-ring binder. Tabbed sections include Sequential, Electrical, Control, Environmental, Navigation, Communications, etc. The manual has its miscellaneous dings, but considering it age and that it was used at the time, its still in nice shape. Rare for sure.

Group 4 and Group 5 Astronaut Signatures Plus Slayton Lot #113 (Sale Order 114 of 499) An 8.5"x 11" sheet of paper with a copy of a Gemini 7 cartoon, and signed by astronauts selected in Group 4 and Group 5. From Group 5, the following have signed the sheet: Givens, Duke, Swigert, Roosa, Weitz, Evans, Haise, Worden, Carr, Mitchell, Brand, Engle, Lousma, Pogue, Bull and Lind. Only Irwin, Mattingly and McCandless have not signed. From Group 4, signatures include Schmitt, Garriott, Michel and Gibson. Only Kerwin has not signed. There is also an extra signature of Deke Slayton. Twenty-one signatures in total.
The sheet has been folded vertically in half, has age fading, and has seen time in a three-ring binder (three holes). Excellent group of signatures however.

Gemini/Apollo Recovery Interphones Lot #115 (Sale Order 116 of 499) Two original Gemini/Apollo Recovery Interphones from ITT Kellogg Communications Systems that were used by the recovery divers for communication with the astronauts and the recovery force. The phones, I assume, are waterproof and measure about 9" long with a 10 foot long cord, and have a volume control. At the end of each cord is a brass fitting for plugging into the outside of the spacecraft (see photo). An exceptional lot and one of which I have never seen before. Both in great condition. Probably used during a recovery, but I have no information one way or the other.

Saturn V Auxiliary Propulsion System Checkout Unit Lot #139 (Sale Order 140 of 499) A 13"x 12"x 9" rigid box assembly case containing an APS valve simulator. This ground test kit was utilized for pre-flight testing/operational check of the Saturn V Third Stage (S-IVB) Auxiliary Propulsion System (APS). The kit was interfaced to each of two TR-204 Attitude Control Engines and one SE 7-1 Ullage engine and simulated the actuation of the quad-redundant propellant solenoid valves which regulated fuel/oxidizer into the engine injectors. Used at the time and still good shape.

Lunar Module Large Fitting Truss in Package Lot #143 (Sale Order 144 of 499) An original Lunar Module fitting truss (described as "large" on the paperwork) from Grumman complete with its original Grumman paperwork and packaging. The Grumman label bears the date 10/66, the early heading LEM and also the NASA/Grumman LM contract number of NAS9-1100. The truss is wrapped in protective foam. New condition. Several of the photos I have provided show a truss like this one out of the packaging. they may be the last one that will ever be available.
According to hardware expert Scott Schneeweis at spaceaholic.com, this truss comprised part of the Lunar Module strut assembly. Its function was to provide cross-brace stabilization for the lander's deployment truss which, in conjunction with the Deployment and Down-lock mechanism, was responsible for extending the LM's legs to its fully deployed position after extraction from the Saturn V SLA.

Lunar Module Burst Disc Test Line, GSE Lot #144 (Sale Order 145 of 499) A 21" long 1/8" diameter Lunar Module burst disc test line complete with a Grumman tag dated 5-31-71. Nice condition in its original removal plastic packaging.
According to hardware expert Scott Schneeweis, these lines were utilized by the ground support crew to establish leakage integrity of the fuel, oxidizer and propellant pressurization (helium) system burst disks associated with the Lunar Module's Ascent, Descent and Reaction Control system engines.

Lunar Module Torque Adapter in Package, GSE Lot #145 (Sale Order 146 of 499) A Lunar Module Torque Adapter assembly with its original packaging and tag from Grumman. The date on the tag for packaging and re-stocking this part is 11-14-69, the date of the Apollo 12 launch. This torque adapter was no doubt ground support equipment and was re-stocked for future use after launch.

Lunar Module RCS Heater Assembly in Package Lot #146 (Sale Order 147 of 499) An original Lunar Module RCS heater assembly from Grumman complete with its original Grumman paperwork and packaging, and also stamped with the words FLIGHT ITEM. The label bears the date 7/67 and the NASA/Grumman LM contract number of NAS9-1100. The heater assembly is sealed in the packaging, but measures about 4" across. I have provided a couple pictures of an identical heater that has been removed from its packaging.
Two of these electric heaters encircled each of the 16 Marquard R-4D Reaction Control System (RCS) engines on the Lunar Module to control propellant temperature by heating the combustion chamber the and the propellant solenoid valves. This same

Lunar Module Bronze Solar Shield Lot #158 (Sale Order 159 of 499) A 14" wide by 33" long and a 14" wide by 21" long bronze colored solar shields. These are not Kapton because each are a little thicker than Kapton, with the large one thicker than the smaller one. Each has several 2" holes at the top. The tag is of the type commonly seen on Lunar Module parts and bears a stamped date of September 19, 1975, which was when these shields were disposed of. Interesting item.

Apollo Spacecraft LM Adapter Spring Thruster Lot #177 (Sale Order 178 of 499) An authentic Lunar Module Spring Thruster measuring 26" long, 2" diameter and weighing about 8 pounds. This Spring Thruster was one of eight used to deploy and jettison the Saturn V Lunar Module Adapter and assist the Apollo CSM with LM extraction. The Spring Thrusters were housed under external fairings on the SLA. No flown SLA components were ever returned. This spring thruster is one of several that came packed in a wooden crate from North American Rockwell, as shown in the photographs. Authenticated by Scott Schneeweis at spaceaholic.com. Scarce.

Lunar Excursion Module Familiarization Manual Lot #199 (Sale Order 200 of 499) An original Lunar Excursion Module Familiarization Manual from Grumman dated 15 January 1964 (LMA 790-1). There are five sections including Mission Description, LEM Structure, Operational Subsystems, Prelaunch Operations and Ground Support Equipment. Loaded with plenty of illustrations and many foldouts. This was likely the earliest LEM Familiarization Manual to be published by Grumman. The title page bears an original stamp indicating this was John Coursen's personal copy. John Coursen was the lead Grumman engineering manager assigned to oversee the ground support equipment at the manufacturing facility in Bethpage. Original spiral binding is splintered and cover page shows some light wear from use. Internal pages are clean. Very rare.

Walt Cunningham's Flown Apollo 7 Orbit TV Show Cue Card Lot #244 (Sale Order 245 of 499) Walter Cunningham's personal 5.5"x 8.5" card "...and as the sun sinks slowly in the west..." that was one of a set that was used in the Apollo 7 crew's Emmy winning broadcast from space "High Above Everything". See the attached photo of this card being displayed in space during the broadcast. This card, like the others, was printed on fireproof paper stock. At least three of the cards from this small group used for the TV show, now reside in museums, including the Smithsonian. This may be the last card that will ever be offered for sale.
After the mission, the Apollo 7 Commander Wally Schirra split the cards between the three astronauts, and he wrote Cunningham's name on the back of this card. Under that, Cunningham has written a note about the significance of this card and has signed it.
The card has some light handling wear slight and some wear on the right edge, but no creases or bends.

Walt Cunningham's T-38 Astronaut Suit Bag Lot #246 (Sale Order 247 of 499) A canvas suit bag used by Apollo 7 astronaut Walter Cunningham to carry his clothes while traveling. It is about 3.5 feet long and Cunningham would hang the suit bag behind the seat of his T-38 for travel. The bag comes with a vintage NASA 3" patch and a Cunningham name tag sewn on. The zippers still work and although used extensively, still nice shape.

Apollo 11 Flown Buffalo and Jefferson Nickels Lot #311 (Sale Order 312 of 499) Two US nickels flown aboard the Apollo 11 Command Module. A 1936 buffalo nickel was secreted aboard the spacecraft by a former North American Rockwell worker with access to the Apollo 11 CM, and a Jefferson nickel was attached to the outside of the spacecraft. Upon its return, the Buffalo nickel was retrieved from its hiding place and the Jefferson nickel removed from the outside of the spacecraft, clearly showing signs that it has gone through at least some of the heat from re-entry. This lot comes with paperwork from the son of the space worker, and several personal items from his participation in the mission.

Made for use in the Lunar Module Simulator, this checklist consists of 23 tabbed sections of procedures and switch positions for complete CSM to LM transfer and LM activation. Tabbed sections include Transfer List, IVT to LM, Housekeeping, Telemetry Activation, Comm Activation, Rate Gyro Check, RCS Press, Landing Gear Deploy, and many more. No notations inside that I can see. An extremely rare checklist and in great condition. Not directly from Duke personal collection, but a nice, rare example of the checklist signed by Duke. A nice piece of Apollo history.
