Post-WWII Occupation German Gift Case Lot #68 (Sale Order 69 of 258) Post-WWII Occupation German Gift Case with Brass Presentation Plaque Inside of Lid, inscribed ''To Our Friend/Carl Hattabaugh/From SS Camp Hallein/1946'', with inscribed signatures of both the American and Austrian camp commandants. Hallein was the sight of a work camp annex to the Dachau Concentration Camp during WWII. After the war, it was the sight of a permanent Displaced Persons camp (Beth Israel). Camp Hallein became the Austrian collection point for Jewish immgrees to Canada and the U.S. The camp closed in 1954. Box measures 7-1/2''x5-1/2''x2-3/4'' and is neatly wood inlaid with an area castle. Work is intricate using many different colored and burl woods. Condition is very good with minor chips and light scuffing, and a repair along the back edge which detracts little.
