This collection includes a crouched demon woman, a crouched man, a turtle demon, a man with his hand on his face, and a man holding two items. Most of these are signed.
Netsuke are miniature sculptures that were invented in 17th-century Japan to serve a practical function (the two Japanese characters ne+tsuke mean "root" and "to attach"). Traditional Japanese garments—robes called kosode and kimono—had no pockets; however, men who wore them needed a place to store their personal belongings, such as pipes, tobacco, money, seals, or medicines. Their solution was to place such objects in containers (called sagemono) hung by cords from the robes' sashes (obi). The containers may have been pouches or small woven baskets, but the most popular were beautifully crafted boxes (inro), which were held shut by ojime, which were sliding beads on cords. Whatever the form of the container, the fastener that secured the cord at the top of the sash was a carved, button-like toggle called a netsuke. Netsuke, like the inro and ojime, evolved over time from being strictly utilitarian into objects of great artistic merit and an expression of extraordinary craftsmanship. Such objects have a long history reflecting the important aspects of Japanese folklore and life. Netsuke production was most popular during the Edo period in Japan, around 1615-1868. |

The Highwaymen, also referred to as the Florida Highwaymen, are a group of 26 named and listed landscape artists who have been called "The Last Great American Art Movement of the 20TH century". This group of self taught and self mentoring African American artists, were able to define themselves against the many odds, racial and cultural barriers of the time in which they painted, and created a body of work of over 200,000 paintings. For over 50 years, The Highwaymen, a loose association of twenty-six African American artists from Fort Pierce, Florida, USA, who began painting in the early 1950s and into 1960s, created large numbers of relatively inexpensive landscape paintings, which were created using construction materials rather than traditional art supplies. Lot of 5 Japanese Carved Netsukes - Bone, Ivory Lot #73 (Sale Order 73 of 208) This is an Unique Collection of 5 Japanese Netsuke figures as shown in photos. This collection includes a human monkey, a wise goat, a man holding a mask, a man with a sword, and a man leaning over a ball.

Listed Artist, Paul Delaroche, Oil On Canvas Painting Lot #75 (Sale Order 75 of 208) This is an Exquisite Paul Delaroche, Oil on Canvas, Signed lower left, and measuring 26” x 22.25” framed. We are unable to determine authenticity or provenance on this piece. The frame is period, however the canvas has been altered, and this piece may in fact have been painted later by a "Delaroche" Enthusiast.
Delaroche came out of the tradition of late eighteenth-century French history painting, represented by artists such as François-André Vincent (1746-1817) who focused on episodes from French history. Ever since Louis XVI’s Directeur des Bâtiments, D’Angiviller conceived of the Grands hommes (Great Men) series both in painting and sculpture, the trend was set for accurate, realistic depictions of subjects from Medieval, Renaissance, and modern history, frequently treated as historical genre, in a lighter vein. Hippolyte (Paul) Delaroche, painter of the sensational Execution of Jane Grey in the Tower of London (1834; National Gallery, London), represented a transition from the classic to the romantic style, placing him in the juste milieu, which combined elements of both. In his teaching he also offered an aesthetic “bridge,” as he insisted on the importance of drawing while at the same time stressed that the originality of a composition – the idea, the quick impression of a sketch – outweighed the value of the execution. He also told his students they must get out of the studio and paint en plein air, one of the cornerstone notions that paved the way for impressionism. Please read more on Paul Delaroche at ASKart.com and to see other wonderful examples of his work. |

The marine wildlife artist, Wyland, was born Robert Wyland in 1956 in Detroit Michigan. He attended the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit majoring in painting and sculpture. Upon graduation, his professors, Jay Holland, Russell Keeter and Bill Gerard, recognized his talent and encouraged him to move to the California coast where he could further develop his art. Wyland, who paints in watercolors and oils, celebrates underwater sea life in his paintings and bronze sculptures. He is also known for his conservation efforts. In 1981 after being frustrated by his attempts to capture whales on canvas he painted his first public art titled, Whaling Wall. After garnering media attention for the artwork he embarked on a quest to complete 100 Whaling Walls by 2011 to raise public awareness of sea life. In 1993, he founded the Wyland Foundation to promote and protect ocean resources through life-sized public art, educational programs and support for environmental groups. In 1998 the United Nations proclaimed him official artist for the International Year of the Ocean. |

As no galleries would accept their works, they sold them in towns and cities and along roadsides throughout Florida often still wet, out of the trunks of their cars. |

The first of these was a 2011-S Uncirculated American Silver Eagle. It was produced at the San Francisco Mint. This is the first time in 25 years that an American Silver Eagle was produced that showcases an ‘S’ mintmark and consequently enjoys the limited mintage of the set at 100,000. However, the pièce de résistance of the collection and the most sought after piece is the 2011-P Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle. These coins were struck at the United States Mint’s facility in Philadelphia and contain a ‘P’ mintmark on the reverse. |

Lot of 5 Japanese Carved Netsukes - Bone, Ivory Lot #168 (Sale Order 176 of 208) This is an Exquisite Collection of 5 Japanese Netsuke figures as shown in photos. This collection includes a winged bat, a girl with octopus, a pelican on an egg, a squatting man, and a man with a staff.
