The Columbus Half dollar along with the Isabella Quarter were minted in honor of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' voyage to the new world. It was first distributed at the worlds fair honoring that voyage. When examining a Columbian Exposition half dollar The first points to show wear are Columbus? eyebrow, cheek and the hair behind his forehead and jaw. Very scarce and very attractive Proof Indian Cent. The coin has great deep red color and nice reflective fields. There are regular business strike Indians that have a proof like appearance and sometimes it is difficult to verify that they are genuine proofs. On the 1902 thats not the case as it has a "tell". The Proof Indian cent obverse Die has a distinctive "dash" in front of the foot of the 1 in the date, most probably a left over date alignment tool, like the dash under the 8's on some Morgans. If you look at the picture of the Proof 1902 Indian on NGC or PCGS's website you will see the distinctive "dash" in front of the 1.
