Pair of Rare Balkan Flintlock Pistols with Embroidered Holster Lot #20 (Sale Order 21 of 311) This pair of Rare Balkan Flintlock Pistols are not your average tourist pieces, they are period working flintlocks showing much use. Both feature gold-inlaid barrels of 50 caliber, brass furniture, pseudo cleaning rods and carved walnut stocks. They are fitted with inlaid semi-precious stones, of which a few are missing. The lock on one pistol still works (it shows the most use), while the other pistol's lock has a sear problem (and shows less wear). Both are similar, but are slightly different and were probably produced by the same gunsmith at far different times. Both come with a very nice heavy embroidered fabric and leather "holster" that neatly holds both pistols. The embroidered holster is a high quality work of art with an attached shoulder strap. From the style of the pistols, they probably come from the war tribes in the Balkans. Very interesting and unique firearms.

No import marks we can see, looks to be matching except for the butt-plate which is stamped "222" (rack number?) and the rear site is in meters (early Dutch contract style). Wood is very good, might have been refinished but all edges are sharp and the finish looks correct. Bayonet mount has not been removed and it comes with a correct 1918 dated Hoyt produced M1907 sling.
