Looks to be fully functional with no damage. Clearly marked, the sextant comes with import papers where it was brought back from the Mid-East after the war. It was apparently used by an oil company aboard their ship after it was captured in North Africa, and comes with photos of the gentleman who used it. The wood carrying box is in very good condition and is made for the sextant.

Windas is a fascinating illustrated book covering the history, sayings and traditions of the "Old Navy". Cedric Windas was as much artist as author and created a book that is as much enjoyed by those who have never sailed as by those for whom it was a calling. Windas wrote and illustrated hundreds of articles for "Our Navy" magazine as well a several male oriented "Old West" magazines. The 158 page book is in good condition with some wear to the hard cover.

"The Lost Battalion" by "Buck Private" McCollum Lot #49 (Sale Order 50 of 132) "The Lost Battalion" by "Buck Private" McCollum is a book of stories and poetry about the famed nine companies of the United States 77th Division, roughly 554 men, trapped by German forces during WWI. After being isolated in an American attack in the Argonne Forest in October 1918, roughly 197 men were killed in action and approximately 150 more were missing or taken prisoner before the 194 remaining men were rescued. Led by Major Charles White Whittlesey, they held their ground and caused enough of a distraction for other allied units to break through the German lines, which forced the Germans to retreat. It is in good if soiled condition.
