Features floral scroll engraving on sides of frame, cylinder, back strap, and trigger guard. 6 inch round barrel and 12 shot cylinder, for .36 caliber pinfire ammunition, with ejector rod to right side, mounted on front of barrel lug. Wood grips with decorative brass plate on either side, and lanyard loop on butt. Marked "J. CHAINEUX / BREVETTE" on left side of barrel lug, and "ARENDT" on right side, followed by serial number. Little bluing remains, with the balances of surfaces in mellow grey and plum patina. Grips are very good, with no cracks. Appears mechanically functional. Caliber: .36 Serial #: 3372 EST $950-1150

PARKER BROTHERS D GRADE UNDER LIFTER DAMASCUS SXS Lot #8058 (Sale Order 57 of 355) Parker Brothers D Grade under lifter action side by side 12 gauge hammer gun, manufactured in late 1870's. Damascus barrels marked "PARKER BROS MAKERS, MERIDEN CONN. DAMASCUS STEEL". Circassian walnut stock, with checkered grip, skeleton butt plate, and silver monogram escutcheon on stock in back of tang. Sculptured barrel bolsters, and side plates engraved with floral scroll and scenes of sporting dogs flushing birds (Setter on right side, Pointer on left). Under lifter action, with ejector. Patent date " Pat Nov 13 1866" marked just in front of release button and trigger guard. Underside of right barrel marked "5 34" (visible with fore end removed), and "S" on bottom of rear barrel lug. Matching serial number 4518 marked inside breech, left side and rear facing surfaces of rear barrel lug, and on both metal and wood inside surfaces of stock fore end. Bores show moderate past pitting, though no present rust. Damascus barrels show clear patterning, with speckled grey patina. Finish mostly absent from receiver area, with smooth patina over surfaces. Walnut stock shows a dark handling patina over long past dings and scuffs, but shows no cracks or chips, remaining overall good. Overall very good condition. Correct checkered hard rubber grips and lanyard ring on butt. Marked "CALIBRE WINCHESTER / 1873" on left side of frame under cylinder. Matching serial numbers on inside facing surface of barrel lug, butt, and cylinder of gun. Frame under grip stamped with "2091". Rare original blued finish. Only about 5 percent of MH&Co. revolvers were finished in blue, nickel plate being the finish of preference. (Phelps, 1992, "The Story of Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Firearms"). Fine bore for the age, with some pitting visible, but well defined lands and grooves. Bluing is about 85-90%, with holster wear to muzzle, and edge wear. Hairline fracture in lower right grip panel, otherwise grips are very good. Cylinder is firm, and hammer is strong, with mechanical condition appearing overall excellent. Arbor pin still has suction when opened. Gun is in overall excellent condition, presenting an exceptionally desirable example. EST $4500-6500

Approximately 300 of these revolvers were issued by Benicia Arsenal to the San Francisco Committee of Safety during the labor riots and civil unrest of 1877-78. No records indicate that the guns were ever later returned to the arsenal, but rather ended up in the hands of the California militia, and on into private circulation. Single action, with 6 shot fluted cylinder, 7 inch barrel, blue finish, and walnut grips. Gun shows correct "US" property mark on bottom of butt. Left grip panel is dated 1877 over "DAL" inspection cartouche (Lt. David A Lyle), with sub inspection cartouche "CW" on right grip ((Charles Woodman). Single inspection marks "C" and "P" are stamped on the cylinder, ejector housing, and frame under cylinder. Single line Schofield patent mark roll stamped on right of barrel lug, with two line S&W address and patent on left side. Bore is incredibly bright and clean for the age, estimated about 95%. Finish appears about 90%, with the possibility of a re-blued cylinder due to a slight shade difference. Dark case color on trigger guard and latch. Grips are correct and matching numbered to gun. COLT SAA REVOLVER NAMED TO COCHISE COUNTY SHERIFF Lot #8061 (Sale Order 60 of 355) Colt Single Action Army revolver, in .44-40 WCF, named to Arizona Sheriff Lyman W. Wakefield. Wakefield served as Sheriff in Cochise County, Arizona (well known for the legendary Wyatt Earp) during the 1890's, and later Pima County, as well as 4 terms as City Marshall and Chief of Police for Tucson. Wakefield is credited for the shooting of Pedro Chavez, an outlaw and member of the Augustine Chacon gang. Revolver is accompanied by research information about Wakefield, as well as a Colt Archives letter indicating manufacture in 1880, and original shipment to Hartley & Graham firearms distributors in New York. Gun is engraved on back strap "SHERIFF LYMAN WAKEFIELD", and "COCHISE CO" on butt. Serial numbers on gun are all matching. Bore is remarkably bright and clean for the age. Mellow plum patina over metal surfaces, with cylinder showing signs of long past pitting. Hair line fracture on right side of grip. Appears mechanically fine, with firm cylinder, strong tight clicks to hammer, and good timing. Gun is in overall good condition for its age, and provides an important example of Arizona Law Enforcement history. EST $7500-9500

Manufactured in 1888. Rifle is accompanied by a letter of Provenance tracing the chain of possession to John Last Bull Young of the North Cheyenne Indian Reservation in Montana. Also included with the rifle is a beaded buckskin sleeve. Bore is frosted, and finish has turned to a mottled patina. A well aged leather bound repair is affixed at wrist of stock, appearing to cover up a large chip. Overall very good example of a Plains Indian rifle. EST $4500-5000

Gun was manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, CT, known for some of the first milling machines in the US. Marked "US, with eagle, and "S. NORTH, MIDLN CON" on lock plate between hammer and frizzen spring. Proof mark "P" and "US" on left top of barrel near tang, as well as barely visible "V" over "LS" in oval inspection cartouche on stock flat opposite lock plate. All parts appear original except for ramrod, which appears possibly later. Hairline fracture to stock running back point of lock plate, down to trigger guard. Plum patina to barrel and metal parts, with mottled grey to lock plate, and a rich wood patina to stock. Hammer cocks back strong, strikes hard, and frizzen works perfect. Various scroll and architectural pattern etching adorns the remainder of the blade, with a Damascus-style pattern (style denoting decorative, not true Damascus) over the last third. Ornately detailed brass hilt featuring wire wrapped shagreen grip, ruby eyed lion's head pommel, lion's head quillon tip, and crossed artillery cannons on langet. "P" knuckle bow, with detailed floral pattern. No scabbard. Some gilt finish remains on hilt, and minor oxidization spots are present on blade, otherwise sword is in very good condition. CAUCASIAN KINDJAL WITH GILT-SILVER AND NIELLO Lot #8168 (Sale Order 167 of 355) Caucasian kindjal dagger measuring 19.25 inches overall. Double-edged blade measuring 14 inches, with off-set central fullers. Engraved caps over two grip rivets. Ornate scabbard with gold tone floral scroll engraving, bordered by niello patterns with ball finial at tip. Back surface of scabbard features small sleeve bearing its own niello pattern, and containing by-knife (seldom found original with kindjal). By-knife blade measures 3 3/4 inches, with horn handle. Scabbard marked "84" at back facing throat of scabbard. Minor oxidization visible on blade, and wood panels lining scabbard slightly loose when blade drawn. Insect damage visible on horn handle of by-knife. Very good example, on overall very good condition. Estimated early 20th Century, but exact age undetermined. EST $1000-2000

ORNATE NAMED PRESENTATION SWORD BY RIDABOCK & CO Lot #8176 (Sale Order 175 of 355) Highly decorated late 19th Century presentation sword, manufactured by Ridabock & Co, New York. Blade etched in decorative scroll, and inscribed "Vt. Nat'l Guard on one side, and "Awarded to Capt. J Gray the Most Popular Officer in the Guard by the Rutland Herald August 23rd 1890" on the other. Gilt brass scabbard fittings bear military and patriotic motif Clamshell guard on hilt features a relief figure of Garibaldi, with knights helmets and shields in the background. Knights head finial quillon, with ornate "D" knuckle bow, and eagle perched on pommel molded in laurels. Grip is shagreen over wood, and wrapped in brass wire. Sword is accompanied by a gilt brass stand with figures of two dolphins with upturned tails as supports. Bottom of rectangular base is marked "Hour, Legivnel/Pari/ Made in France". Blade shows light oxidization spotting, with minor contact wear from scabbard. Hilt shows minimal loss to gilt finish, and fittings slightly loose, with excellent grip and wire wrap. All correct British proofs, with broad arrow and "WEBLEY MARK VI" over cylinder on left side of frame. Nitro proof, with ".455 " .760" / 6 TONS PER" proofing and chambering marks in front of cylinder, also on left side of frame. Webley patent mark dated 1918 below cylinder. Broad arrow marks on hammer, release lever, and trigger. Nitro proof marks in each chamber in cylinder, as well as on face of cylinder, accompanied by a broad arrow. Brown hard rubber grips with lanyard ring on butt, bearing broad arrow mark on lanyard swivel. All serial numbers are matching, including cylinder. Gun shows cosmoline remaining in protected areas, and coating bore and cylinder chambers, indicating the possibility of rather recent removal from long term arsenal storage. No US import marks. Bore appears excellent under cosmoline preservative. Original arsenal blue is about 95%, with only a few minor spots of recent surface rust, which appears light enough to polish off. Grips are very good, with handling scuffs, but no significant chips or cracks. Cylinder is correctly and visibly marked, indicating it has not been altered for use with moon clips and .45 ACP. WINCHESTER 94 SADDLE RING 25-35 WCF CARBINE 1925 Lot #8197 (Sale Order 196 of 355) Winchester Model 94 Carbine, manufactured in 1925, and chambered in 25-35 WCF, one of the notably less common cartridges used in the Model 94. Marbles Gladstone rear sight. Full length magazine, saddle ring stud and ring on the left side of receiver, and two barrel bands. Top left of barrel stamped with two line address/patent date, two line nickel steel marking just below the rear sight , and "25-35 WCF" near breech. Winchester trademark on tang, and Winchester inspection mark on breech, and barrel just in front of breech. Smooth fore end and straight grip walnut stock, with steel butt plate. Bluing on barrel is about 70%, with some fading and a few minor pitting marks. Receiver, as well as (originally case colored) lever, hammer, and trigger, all now bear a smooth plum patina. Stock has chips on either side of tang where it meets receiver, but otherwise remains free of cracks or other notable damage. Bore shows significant frosting, but rifling remains visible. Weighing nearly 30 lbs, this bust is approximately 1.5 times life size (14 inches high by 8 inches wide). Bust is signed on the left back of the neck "W. Wolff .33." The foundry marks on the edge on the plinth support read "Guss M. Sperlich - Berlin". The bust has a consistent patina and the verdigris is only at the deepest points. The bust has the scars of what may have been a defacement or destruction of a governmental display; the right side of the face (chin, cheek, neck, ear, and nose tip) have substantial scrapes consistent with a hard fall. Marked with three line patent date on left side of frame, and post 1952 British Royal coat of arms on magazine. Marked just above right grip on frame with early Eibar proof mark, star over "E" date code (1931), and late Eibar automatic pistol proof. British proof marked on left of receiver, and underside of barrel with crown over "BNP" Birmingham Nitro Proof marks. Marked "7.63 / .985"" (metric caliber and chamber length in inches), over "12 TONS" (maximum service pressure per 1954 British proof rules). Additional Birmingham "Private View Mark" of "KB" over number 4 in a circle indicates exact year of proofing in 1984. US import marked "BTC SEM CA" on right side of frame (Briklee Trading Co., South El Monte, CA), which was in operation from the 80's to early 2000's. Wood grips bear correct 12 serration panels, numbered to gun on inside. Non serial numbered wood butt-stock holster accompanies gun, appearing correct for the period, less the absence of a serial number. Included as well is a scarce signed first edition of "Astra Automatic Pistols", by Leonardo M. Antaris. Very good bore for the age. Though refinished, bluing is immaculate, with all crisp and sharp lettering and marks. Would appear original but for the impossible time line between manufacture and addition of British coat of arms. All serial numbers on gun are matching, with the exception of the magazine. Chamber dated 1939, with toggle coded "42". Eagle over 63 (-Mauser Werke K.G., Oberndorf-am-Neckar, Baden-WĀrttemberg) acceptance marks, as well as military test fire proof on right side of frame. According to book, these specific pistols carry the eagle over 655 (Mauser Werke K.G., Oberndorf-am-Neckar, Nordrhein-Westfalen) mark, as well as having a stock lug on backstrap, lacking in this example. Appears to possibly have been professionally removed, perhaps even a wartime alteration. Magazine is numbered 6672, and also eagle over 63 marked.
