Age appropriate patina extends throughout horn, worn wooden cap and the nails that secure it appear correct for the period as well. TWO FRENCH M1854 HEAVY CAVALRY SABER BLADES Lot #1232 (Sale Order 37 of 165) TWO FRENCH M1854 HEAVY CAVALRY SABER BLADES The blades of two M1854 French Heavy Cavalry Dragon Sabers. No hilt, or grip, only blades and tang. Both have deep double fullers and single edges, accompanied by considerable blade length, made the design ideal for puncturing via horseback. Both swords stamped with marks on their short ricasso: an 'F' and 'S' each within their individual ovals to one blade, an 'S' in a diamond and an 'M' in a circle to the other. The latter is clearly inscribed to the flat edge in French script "Mre D'Armes de Chat - Avril 1874 Dragon 1854 1882." Both tangs are slightly curved. Size: 42.5"total, 36.25"blade Condition: FC - Both blades feature heavy brown patina to one side, and maintain good original steel finish to the other. Moderate rust and pitting to both sides of blades. The flat edge of one blade is considerably obscured by rust and pitting; inscription beneath barely visible. Est. $200-400

ALEXANDER HENRY EDINBURGH ENGRAVED RIFLE Lot #1340 (Sale Order 159 of 165) ALEXANDER HENRY EDINBURGH ENGRAVED RIFLE Single action break top rifle with 410 bore smithed by Alexander Henry of Edinburgh. Birmingham proofhouse marks on receiver and underneath removable foregrip. Inspectors and manufacture marks underneath foregrip date the rifle to 1921 - 1922. Also marked 2.5 inch chamber and 3.25 tons per square inch proofing. Elegant foliate scroll work has been engraved into the receiver and trigger assembly. Checkered hammer, chamber release, foregrip and pistol grip on stock. Base of pistol grip has been finished with steel pommel, and butt plate is also a smooth steel plate. Barrel is of curious design: the intersection with receiver and foregrip is of octagonal form 8.5" long, which then extends 17.7" as a cylindrical barrel. At the joining of the two barrel shapes are three spaced rings set onto the cylindrical barrel. Action is crisp and bore is clean. Pitting and rust down receiver and barrel. Type: Rifle .
