Lot #91 (Sale Order 92 of 178)

A Great Example of America's First Commemorative. It is Nicely Toned and all Original. Exceptional Luster and a Good Strike. When Examining an Isabella Quarter On the obverse, wear first shows in the area of the crown’s central oval jewel and on Isabella’s cheek. Reverse wear will first be noted on the strand of wool resting on the kneeling spinner’s thigh. Due to die wear, raised or sharp definition of the strand of wool is not the norm. This area can display a slight weakness of strike, which is par for the design and should not be labeled wear. Trends lists at $800-$2250. Estimated Value $1500

All white. I had trouble grading this coin. The fields are reflective and I almost called it proof like, but I think it may have been polished. The obverse has some light wear or a weak strike and I am not sure. The reverse has a strong strike and truly has Unc details. It has a nice look, but not the cartwheel luster excpected with a high end AU to Uncirculated coin. That could come from polishing or proof like fields and I am just not sure. 1831 Large Letters Capped Bust Quarter 25c Grades FN+

Lot #110 (Sale Order 111 of 178)

1831 was the year of transition to the new close collar reduced diameter (24mm versus 28mm) quarter coinage. In order to get the best striking results from his design, William Kneass tried two different letter sizes for the reverse die. The Small Letter reverse can be distinguished not only by their smaller size, as they are about as WIDE as they are TALL. The letters are also noticeably FARTHER AWAY from the rim than the Large Letter variety. The Large Letters appear to be TALLER than they are WIDE and are placed CLOSER to the rim. In total population, the Small Letter variety is about five times more common than the Large Letter variety. This example of the large letter variety is a bit dark. It is all original and the reverse is nicer than the obverse. It grades FN+. Trends lists at $200-$250. Estimated Value $225

Lot #111 (Sale Order 112 of 178)

A beautiful toned Lincoln Cent 1c. The obverse toning is very pretty with purples and greens and it appears the base of the coin is red/brown. I didn't grade it as red/brown as the reverse has spectacular toning with greens, red and purples and I am unsure what the base color of the coin is. Unless both obverse and reverse are red/brown, I can't call it that so I am heding. Superb BU+ example with exceptional eye appeal. This is a truly great example grading BU+. 1927-s Standing Liberty 25c Grades VG+ 1927-s Standing Liberty 25c Grades VG+

1927-s Standing Liberty 25c Grades VG+

Lot #138 (Sale Order 139 of 178)

This is an original mostly white example. The 1927-s SLQ is rare in any grade. According to David Hall "The 1927-S quarter is the lowest mintage (by a large margin) Type 2 Standing Liberty quarter. In fact, it is the second lowest mintage of the entire series as only the very rare 1916 had a lower mintage. This issue is very interesting in terms of the distribution of grades of the survivors. Basically, 95 percent or more of the survivors grade AG03 to GD06. VG, Fine, VF, and XF examples are really rare. The 1927-S obviously saw extensive circulation and not many were saved at the time of issue. The low mintage is an attraction to some rare coin entusiasts, but while the coin is rare in almost all grades, it is only semi-scarce in the lowest grades (AG03-GD06). 1927-S quarters are desireable in any grade and they are still a legitimate 20th century rarity in any grade VG08 or higher." Trends lists at $50-$110. Estimated Value $90

2008 United States Silver Proof Set - 14 Pieces - Extremely low mintage, hard to find 2008 United States Silver Proof Set - 14 Pieces - Extremely low mintage, hard to find

2008 United States Silver Proof Set - 14 Pieces - Extremely low mintage, hard to find

Lot #164 (Sale Order 165 of 178)

Many people ask why the 2008 set is so much higher priced than the other near dates. It had a slightly lower mintage, but not drastically. Well I just researched this as I too was very curious and here is the answer. The mint shut down sales of the set in June, 5 months earlier than usual and although the mintage of 1.5 million pieces seems near par with the 2-3 million pieces of other near dates, with the mint shutting down sales and many folks who were collecting the whole series, (this was the final piece to the 50 state quarter series) getting shut out, they immediately went to the secondary market. But most of the 1.5 million sold by the mint went to collectors who bought them to keep and did not sell them into the secondary market. So you basically had a shortage of about 1/2 to 1 million sets below demand. The Set contains 5 90% Silver Proof Quarters, a 90% Silver Proof Kennedy Half Dollar, a 90% Silver Proof Roosevelt Dime, 4 Proof Presidential Dollars Including the Inaugural first 4, Washington through Madison, as well as 3 additional Proof coins Including the Sacagawea Proof Dollar coin. This set contains about 1 1/2 ounces of pure silver. Complete with Original Packaging and COA. Estimated Value $125
