11" French Mechanical "Little Girl in Cabbage Rose" with Original Boutique Paper Label 1200/1600 Lot #6 (Sale Order 6 of 60) 11" (28 cm.) Arranged upon a velvet-covered platform is a paper mache cabbage with silk flower petals and a hinged cover. Hidden inside the cabbage is a bisque head doll with brilliant spiral-threaded eyes and lushly painted lashes and brows, open mouth with upturned lip corners, two rows of teeth, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig, bisque hands. When wound, the lid opens, the doll arises from her hiding place and "blows kisses" with her cupped hands. Generally excellent. French, circa 1890, attributed to Roullet et Decamps, with original French paper boutique label.

Of fine brown leather with gold tooled accents, constructed in unusual five-point cut, the purse has cast brass clasp with unusual opening manner, brass link handle and trim, and an added hidden folio with flap opening at front, and decorated with two tiers of silk fringe. French Mechanical Toy "Little Girl in Donkey Cart" by Vichy 300/600 Lot #22 (Sale Order 22 of 60) 9.5" (24 cm.) A bisque head doll with blue glass eyes and closed mouth is seated in a woven two-wheeled cart that is being pulled by a paper mache donkey with nodder head. When wound, the cart propels forward and the doll rocks back and forth as though urging the donkey forward. Very good, fraility to doll costume, mechanism functions well. Handwind Toy "The Ringmaster and the Performing Seals" for the French Market 1200/1600 Lot #37 (Sale Order 37 of 60) 11" (28 cm.) x 7" base. Posed upon a wooden platform with lithographed paper cover is a delightful circus scene featuring a bisque head man with sculpted blue-brimmed yellow hat, brown moustache and full beard and painted features, along with two paper mache painted brown seals with well-defined features and hinged flippers, one with a violin and the other with a harp. When wound by porcelain knob at the front, the seals move their flippers as though playing the instruments, while the wooden hat atop one seal twirls around and the ringmaster turns side to side. Music plays. Generally excellent, one seal missing wooden hat. For the French market, circa 1890, delightfully themed musical toy with very rare bisque head man.

Amusing 5" French Mechanical Leaping Poodle 300/600 Lot #51 (Sale Order 51 of 60) 5" (13 cm.) The paper mache poodle is lavishly covered, poodle-fashion, with lush curly white mohair, with shaved face, back torso and legs, and with glass eyes and curly tail. The mechanism is hidden inside, and, when wound, causes the dog to excitedly jump up and down as though joyfully greeting its owner. Excellent condition. French, circa 1890.

French Handwind Mechanical Toy "Teaching the Donkey" 600/900 Lot #52 (Sale Order 52 of 60) 14" (36 cm.) h. 13" x 7" platform. Standing upon a wooden stage is a bisque head doll with blue glass eyes, open mouth, blonde mohair wig, bisque hands and wearing frail rose silk costume, alongside a nodding head donkey posed stubbornly as though refusing to budge. A tree with rooster, and a fence with chicken are in the background. When wound, the boy turns his head side to side, waves his right arm, and the donkey nods his head, while music plays. Fair unrestored condition, plays fitfully. French, circa 1890.

17" French Bisque "Bebe Gigoteur" by Jules Steiner with Original Wig, Working 1800/2700 Lot #57 (Sale Order 57 of 60) 17" (43 cm.) Bisque head with flat-cut neck socket, blue glass inset eyes, painted facial features, slightly parted lips with two rows of tiny porcelain teeth, pierced ears, original soft blonde mohair wig, carton torso containing mechanism with ornate brass key at the side, kid over hinged upper legs, composition lower arms and legs, original chemise and pantalets. When wound, the doll cries "mama" and waves her arms and legs in typical baby manner, and turns head side to side. Excellent unplayed with condition, mechanism functions well. Jules Steiner, circa 1875, from his original patent design, the doll was made on commission for luxury French doll stores, this an especially beautiful example.

French Miniature Silk Scarf in Original Box by Hermes 200/300 Lot #58 (Sale Order 58 of 60) 8" (20 cm.) x 8". A miniature version of the silk scarf featuring the classic saddle and leather theme of the prestigious Parisian store, Hermes, was produced in a very limited series some few years ago, and is wonderfully sized for dolls. In fresh mint condition in its original Hermes box with brown ribbon ties.

Early French Hand-Wind Toy Featuring a Mechanical Pump 300/700 Lot #59 (Sale Order 59 of 60) 9" (23 cm.) x 9" base. 17" overall height. The early and very rare toy features a tin-lined wooden base with two interior compartments and with painted stone and brick design to simulate a stone well, tin grillwork around the top edge, and with painted black placard at the front having an original very elaborate cast brass design of mythological figures (possibly the sea goddess Leukothea) and winged cherubs. A tin pump with chain winding system is at the top, along with a faucet and tray, and an early paper mache woman with black painted pate, painted facial features, early hand-stitched kid body and original blue woolen gown stands alongside, her hand attached to the pump handle. To play, water was placed in the large compartment of the tank, the handle at the side was turned, appearing as though the woman was turning the crank, and water eventually flowed through the fountain faucet. Very good condition. French, circa 1840 an exceptional early toy with wonderful design and construction, the maker remains a mystery.

Paper mache shoulder head of adult lady with oval face, elongated strong throat, black painted pate, painted upper-glancing blue eyes, black upper eyeliner, accented nostrils, closed mouth, original kid poupee body with hand-stitched detail, and wearing her original clothes comprising undergarments, and an outstanding gown with embroidery and trapunto stitching. Paper mache is in fair condition and some repairs, body quite sturdy, costume excellent. French, circa 1830.
